Mount Mestas Memorial
Huerfano World
June 12, 2003
The Mount Mestas Memorial was rededicated Memorial Day at its
new location on the grounds of the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in
Walsenburg. The memorial originally was placed at the base of Mount Mestas near
La Veta Pass in honor of Huerfano County resident Felix B. Mestas Jr., who was
killed during World War II in Battaglia, Italy. The memorial also lists the
names of other Huerfano County residents who died in foreign wars.
