The origin of the Delavelle surname is in Switzerland during the sixteenth century(Canton du Jura) near Saignelegier (height: 3300 feet). Rev. Leon Delavelle and Julia Delavelle are born in Fleurey, a small village located in the red circle on the France's map below. It's only 20 miles from Saignelegier, original place of the Delavelle family.

Hereunder are two photos of the farm (built 1829): the Leon and Julia birth place with a general view of the area around the farm.

The Leon and Julia family was a very large family with 12 children. Four of them emigrate between 1890 and 1910 in the United-States: Leon and Julia in Peñasco (New-Mexico), Charles Philomin in North-Dakota and Louis François in an unknown state.

The older Julia sister, Laure Marie Joséphine, joined the Ursulines community in Switzerland as sister Agathe.

Victor Felix and Laure Marie (sister Agathe) Delavelle - Brother and sister of Leon and Julia.
