Philip Vigil - World Independent - May 9, 1935 - Youth Commits Suicide After Family Argument - Mother Rebukes Philip Vigil of North Veta, for Arguing With Younger Brother About Caring for Horse, and He Shoots Himself. Apparently an argument with his brother and later reproof by his mother led Philip Vigil, 19 year old North Veta youth to shoot himself in the temple yesterday afternoon about 1 o'clock. Young Vigil died about 3, according to Dr. W.S. Chapman, who was called to the Vigil home to administer medical aid to the youth. Deputy Coroner C.A. Tallman, who was called to the Vigil ranch following the shooting to investigate, said that Mrs. Fidelia Vigil, mother of the young man, told him that she had rebuked Philip for arguing with his younger brother, Joseph, about who should put up the horse after they had finished with him in the field. She said Philip walked into another room by himself and they heard a shot. Running into his room they found Philip lying on the floor with a bullet wound in his right temple. Tallman and Dr. Chapman said the pistol, a 38 caliber gun, had been found under the edge of the bed. He was dead when Dr. Chapman arrived at the ranch. Young Vigil is survived, besides his mother and brother Joseph, by six other brothers, Mike, Adonnis, John, Anactacio, Elfredo, Joe and Bernie.
