Aaron Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - March 02, 2006 - Aaron Vigil, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2006. Survived by his parents, John Vigil and Haley Salazar; sisters, Emalee and Aleena Salazar and Katrina Vigil; grandparents, Carol Sullivan, Tom Ashton; aunts, Nicole and Cara Jean Ashton. Aaron was a bright-eyed, loving child. He will be loved and missed very much by all his family. Visitation, 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Adeline "Lina" Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - March 22, 2005 - Adeline "Lina" Vigil, 91, formerly of Avondale, passed away on March 17, 2005, in Silver City, N.M., where she went to live with her "foster daughter" Sylvia (Sixto) Duran. Adeline was born July 23, 1913, in Arroyo Hondo, N.M., to Francisco Vigil and Sencionita Mondragon, who preceded her in death; also her brothers, Onesimo and wife, Timotea Vigil, Edward Vigil, who was like her son. She is survived by Sylvia (Sixto) Duran; nephew, Tony (Ruth) Vigil; several close cousins, several godchildren whom she was very proud of. Adeline was a member of the Sacred Heart League in Arroyo Hondo, N.M., the guard of honor in Pueblo and the Altar and Rosary Society of Avondale. She taught religious education for 16 years and was involved in several areas of her parish. Her hobbies included sewing, crafts and cooking. Her all-time favorite hobby was bingo. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Sacred Heart Church in Avondale. Interment St. Vrain Cemetery.

Adelmo Aquin Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - April 29, 1999 - Adelmo Aquin Vigil, 58, departed this life April 27, 1999. Born in the San Luis Valley, March 3, 1941. He was a construction worker by trade. Time permitting, he liked going to Cripple Creek, playing billiard pool, family fishing outings and teaching his grandchildren how to catch the ``big one." He married Maria Elena Duran in Pueblo on Sept. 24, 1960. She survives as do his children, Corrina (Mike Montez) Lopez, Marina (Phillip) Amaro, Florie (Ray) DeTello and Maria (Johnny Mondragon) Vigil, all of Pueblo- seven grandchildren, Antonio Lopez, Ronald Lopez, Phillip Amaro Jr., Eric Lopez, Raymond DeTello Jr., Joseph DeTello and Johnny Mondragon Jr.- siblings, Evarisito (Lila) Vigil, Dora (Leo) Gutierrez, Louise (Nick) Aguilar, Gus (Juanita) Vigil, Willene Quiroz, Bea (Wes Gallegos) Hurst, Rudy (Theresa) Vigil, Sammy Vigil and Linda (Benny) Kaber- and other relatives and friends. Adelmo is predeceased by his parents, Malaquias and Mary Flavia Vigil, and two brothers, Michael and Navor Vigil. He lived in Pueblo for the past 56 years. Albert (Alvaro) P. Vigil - Huerfano World - October 12, 2000 - Albert (Alvaro) P. Vigil, 74, of Walsenburg, went to be with the Lord Oct. 8, 2000. He was born Feb. 19, 1926 in Broadhead to the late Eva Quintana and Gilbert Vigil. Also preceded in death by his brother, Vince Vigil and sister, Viola Vigil. Mr. Vigil is survived by his loving wife, Margaret D. Vigil, Walsenburg; sons, Francis (Marguerite) Vigil, McGill, NV, and Jeffrey (Pamela) Vigil, Denver; three daughters, Brenda (Lawrence) Aguirre, Canon City, Regina (Steve) Bobian, Denver and Judith Vigil, Lake wood; brothers, Gilbert Vigil, Arthur Vigil and Bernard Vigil; sisters, Genevieve Atencio, Mercy Vigil, Gloria Martinez, Theresa Hargrove, Isabel Vigil and Bernice Espinoza. Also survived by his grandchildren, Angela Zamora, Jeffery Vigil, Adam Vigil, Stephen Bobian, Brandon Bobian, Matthew Aguirre, Jaime Aguirre and Lucas Aguirre. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved wood working and stamp collecting. He was also very active in St. Mary Church and sang in the choir. Vigil, Alice Marie
Alice Marie Vigil - Huerfano World - October 22, 1970 - Mrs. Alice Marie Vigil, of Westminster, died at her home Wednesday evening, Oct. 14, 1970, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Vigil was a former resident of Walsenburg. She was born in Walsenburg, was a graduate of St. Mary High School. She had attended the University of Denver and moved to Denver in 1946 where she was employed by the Lerners Stores and the Denver Dry Goods where she was assistant department manager and assistant buyer. Mrs. Vigil, a member of Holy Trinity Church in Westminster, was married to D.J. Vigil on April 16, 1940. Vigil is staff specialist with the Colorado Division of Employment. Mrs. Vigil was also a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. Besides her husband, Mrs. Vigil is survived by a daughter, Miss Cheryl Joyce Vigil, of the family home; a brother, William G. Atencio Jr., of Pueblo; a sister, Miss Viola Atencio, Walsenburg; aunts, Miss Josephine Atencio and Mrs. Lahmer Reynolds, both of Walsenburg. She is the daughter-in-law of Mr. And Mrs. Damacio Vigil, Walsenburg. Earlier this year her father, William G. Atencio, died, as did two uncles. A concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection was offered, Monday at St. Mary Church. Interment was in North St. Mary Cemetery. Boies Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Andrew Scott Ingle Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - December 01, 2002 - Andrew Scott Ingle Vigil, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 26, 2002, in Austin, Texas. He was born on June 25, 1973, in Pueblo. He graduated from Pueblo South High School in 1991. He also graduated in 1996 with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Tulsa. Andrew is preceded in death by his grandparents, George Ingle Smith, Joseph and Josephine Vigil. He is survived by his parents, Bernard and Alison Vigil; grandmother, Virginia C. Smith; brother, Kenneth Vigil; sisters, Kimberly Vigil, and Valerie (Shane) Mullen; nephews, Brandt and Ethan Mullen; niece, Anessa Mullen; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Being the youngest advancing executive within Cisco Systems, Andrew received many prestigious awards and had recently received the distinguished executive of the year award. Angelina C. Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - July 25, 1986 - Angelina C. Vigil, late of 1127 Cypress, Pueblo, passed away July 23, 1986. Mrs. Vigil was born in Springer, N.M., Nov. 27, 1929, and resided in Pueblo for the past 55 years. She is survived by her husband, Leadore C. Vigil; children, Mary Ellen (Sam) Santistevan, Mike (Loretta) Rosales, Elizabeth (Perry) Smith Jr.; five grandchildren, Sammy, Kristina, Antonio, Audrey, and Stephanie. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Solano; brothers and sisters, Inez (Ray) Duran, Joseph (Merline) Solano, Floyd (Sadie) Solano, Betty (Ray) Lara, all of Pueblo; Rosemary (Al) Lucero, Leroy (Dora) Solano, all of Denver; Martha (Leo) Santistevan of California; and a host of other relatives and friends. Rosary recitation at 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Church. Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, with Father John O'Flynn officiating. Services will conclude following Mass. Anna Vigil - Huerfano World - August 21, 1980 - Anna Vigil, matriarch of a five-generation family, died August 14, 1980, at Huerfano memorial Hospital. She was 91. Mrs. Vigil was a native of Walsenburg, born here on Oct. 9, 1888. As a young woman, she married Emitterio Herrera and they homesteaded in the Rattlesnake Buttes area east of Walsenburg. Widowed six years later with four young children to care for, she returned to the home of her foster parents, the late Placida and Cornelio Duran. She was married in 1957 to Abran Vigil who died in 1967. After living in Pueblo for a number of years, Mrs. Vigil returned to Huerfano County in 1976 to make her home with daughter, Molly Bailey, in La Veta. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Vigil is survived by three sons: Jesus Duran of Kennewick, WA; Jose S. Duran and Eppy Duran of Pueblo; a sister, Anastacia Salazar, and a brother Tovias Pacheco, both of Pueblo; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial was at Mount Carmel Church and burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Pueblo on Saturday.

Annie Marie Vigil - Huerfano World - May 28, 1998 - Annie Marie Vigil, 89, of Walsenburg, died May 23, 1998 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 2, 1908 in La Veta to Antonio and Josefa Martinez Ward, she lived all of her life in Huerfano County. Mrs. Vigil was a member of St. Mary Church and the Altar Society. She was married to Amando Ben Vigil who died in 1977. She is survived by her children, Viola Miller, Walsenburg, Tommy Vigil, Sanford, Mary Ann Casias, Angela Montano and Nellie Montano, Denver; close friend, Manuel Griego, Walsenburg; 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Rosary for Mrs. Vigil will be at 6 p.m. Thursday (today) and funeral mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. Both from St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in South St. Mary Cemetery.

(Sonia) Vigil, Pampa, Texas, Nora (Nick) Sisneros, Chicago, Ill., Ramona Vigil, Denver, Teresa Moreno, Gilbert (Claudine) Vigil, Doris (Francisco) Arzate and Antoinette (Ginger) Rendon, all of Pueblo, and Alfonso (Nancy) Vigil, Pampa, Texas; sisters, Vangie (Vincent) Serna, and Eufemia Portillos, both of New Mexico, and Bertha Jaramillo of California; as well as numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Antonio Vigil - Walsenburg World-Independent - September 20, 1934 - Pioneer Resident Of County Passes Away at Ranch - Funeral for Antonio Vigil to be Saturday Morning At 10 O'clock - Antonio Vigil, 54 a resident of Huerfano county all his life, died at his ranch home near North Veta this morning at 4:30 o'clock after a lingering illness of nearly two years. Mr. Vigil and his family had lived on their ranch about 4 miles north of North Veta for 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Fedelia; eight sons; Maclovio, of Del Carbon, Adonais, Jacob and Anastacio, all of Alamo Felipe, Elfrido and Presentasion of North Veta; three daughters; Mrs. Garbielita Martinez, Mrs. Rosa Castro, both of Walsenburg and Precedes Vigil of North Veta. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the home at North Veta at 10 o'clock, and interment will be at the San Arroya cemetery under the direction of the Unfug-Peet Mortuary. World Independent – September 22, 1934 - Pioneer Funeral Held This Morning - Funeral services for Antonio Vigil, 54-year-old pioneer of the county, who died on his ranch near North Veta early Thursday morning, were held from the home at 10 o'clock this morning under the direction of the Unfug-Peet Mortuary. His survivors include his wife, Fedelia, eight sons, three daughters and fifteen grandchildren attended and many friends.

Antonio Vigil - Huerfano World - January 14, 1993 - Huerfano Antonio Elias (Lee) Vigil, died in Poudre Valley Hospital January 10, 1993. Born Oct. 8, 1911, in Walsenburg, he married Marcelina Hernandez of Amarillo, TX, Feb. 18, 1945 in Walsenburg. They moved to Fort Collins in 1947 and to Bellvue in 1950. He enlisted in the Anti-Aircraft Battalion Division in Walsenburg in 1942 and was stationed at Camp Callan, near San Diego, CA. After the military he worked on the farms and on the water tunnels in Poudre Canyon and for the Ideal Basic Cement Company for 20 years. He was a member of the Catholic Brotherhood in Walsenburg, DAV Chapter #5 of Fort Collins, the Bellvue Grange and an active member of the Democratic Party. Survivors include his wife, Marcelina; his children, Ret. M/Sgt. Air Force Joseph Vigil, San Antonio, TX, Susie Ann Vigil, Bellvue, Frances Cheatam and Nancy DeHerrera, Fort Collins and Mike Vigil and four grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Collins. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Arthur Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - January 26, 1999 - Arthur Vigil, 80, of Pueblo West, formerly of Minturn, Colo., passed away Jan. 24, 1999, at his Pueblo West home after a brief illness. Born in Wagon Mound, N.M., on Dec. 24, 1918, to Thomas and Emiteria Vigil. Arthur married Mary Gonzales on Dec. 3, 1947, in Raton, N.M. Survived by his wife, Mary, of Pueblo West- seven children, Mary Ann (Ron) Garrimone, Denver, Gloria (John) Shore, Casper, Wyo., Nancy Thompson (Bill Martinez), Redcliff, Colo., Vivian Hermosillo (Armando Hernandez), Edwards, Colo., Arthur (Luann) Vigil Jr., Leadville, Colo., Patty Williams, Pueblo West, and Andy (Tina) Vigil, Minturn, Colo.- numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren- five sisters, Delores Medina, Aurora Duran, Ida Chavez, Juanita Salazar and Lucille Trujillo- and four brothers, John Vigil, Paul Salazar, Jesse Salazar and Jose Red" Vigil- and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents- three brothers, Andy, Marcello and Candido Vigil- and one sister, Viola Portillo. Arthur served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran, receiving numerous medals. He lived in Utah for 17 years and then moved to Denver, Colo., in 1964. He then transferred to Vail, Colo., as a union carpenter where he lived from 1969 to 1998. He had a great love for the mountains where he loved to fish and hunt. Arthur will be remembered for the love and impact he had on his family and everyone he came in touch with. He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved and knew him. Rosary, 6 p.m. Thursday. Ben Vigil - Huerfano World – August 31, 2006 – Ben Vigil, 79, a former Walsenburg resident and retired businessman, passed away August 24 at his Pueblo home. Vigil was preceded in death by his wife, Cordelia. His survivors include his children, Gerald Vigil and Karen Vigil, both of Pueblo. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Romero Family Funeral Home, 110 Cleveland St. in Pueblo. Internment, Imperial Memorial Gardens, 5450 Colorado 78. Pueblo Chieftain - August 29, 2006 - Ben Vigil, 79, of Pueblo, formerly of Walsenburg, died Aug. 24, 2006, at home. Ben served as an Army corporal in the Korean War. Early on, Ben was a construction worker. With his wife's help, he went on to work as a contractor, and trader of properties and small machinery. He owned small motels, a restaurant and a gift shop. His service to the Walsenburg area included stints on the school board, hospital board, city council and the Northland Improvement District. He greatly enjoyed his many friends and helping his children with their home and auto projects. He cherished both his human and canine families. He always was ready for a road trip. On a Colorado drive, he would point out the highways he helped build and recount the antics of his former co-workers. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordelia; and his parents, Ben and Eva Vigil; and daughter, Katherine Vigil. He is survived by his son, Gerald G. Vigil; and daughter, Karen Vigil, both of Pueblo. Bensencio Vigil – Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph – January 16, 1960 – Springs Man Dies in Accident West of Trinidad – Bensencio Vigil, 54, 2218 E. Dale St. and Cortez, Colo., died early this morning when his car slid out of control on a bridge and finally ended up in the Purgatorie River 10 miles west of Trinidad. The Colorado State Patrol said the accident occurred about 2 a.m. as Vigil's car, traveling south on a county road in Las Animas County, went out of control and skidded counter-clockwise on a bridge for 28 feet. The State patrol reported that the left front of the car went off the bridge and then the car skidded another 24 feet before the rear of the vehicle left the bridge. The car dropped 20 feet into the Purgatorie River, landing on its front end (and) went another 30 feet along the bottom of the river bed, winding up on its wheels, the Patrol reported. State Patrol Cpl. Ernest Rodosevich and Patrolman Raymond Smith, of the Pueblo Division said Vigil was impaled on a piece of steel railing on the bridge when the vehicle plunged into the river. The investigators said a piece of steel railing pierced the driver's neck, going thru the right side of his neck and down into his shoulder. Vigil was apparently killed instantly. Vigil was born April 28, 1905 in Tercio, Colo. He had worked in southern Colorado coal mines for the last 25 years and was employed by the Allen Mine near Weston at the time of his death. He was a member of United Mine Workers Local 5879. He is survived by his wife, Mary Vigil; two sons, Ben and Bob Vigil all of Colorado Springs; three daughters, Mrs. Julius Mentor, Rifle; Dolores and Jennie Vigil, both of Colorado Springs; two brothers, Esequiel and Floyd Vigil, both of California; three sisters, Rose Trujillo, Colorado Springs; Susie Williams, of California; and Mark Bokis, Colorado Springs; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be announced later by Mullare Funeral Home of Trinidad. Vigil's death was the 18th traffic fatality of the year, compared to nine at this time in 1959.

Charles Loyd Steve Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - July 26, 2006 - Charles Loyd Steve Vigil, 48, a lifetime Pueblo resident, born Aug. 11, 1957, passed away unexpectedly July 21, 2006, at Parkview Medical Center. Charles was a drummer by profession, and played with various bands: Blackwater, Cheek to Cheek, Silver Eagle, Crossfire, Hot Iron, Harold Dean and the Lat Ride. Charles had a love for music from an early age while attending Minnequa Elementary and Corwin Middle School. He graduated from Central High School. He also lived in Lamar, Miami and New Mexico. In addition to his love of music, Charles enjoyed cooking, fishing, good times, flipping through magazines and watching classic cartoons and movies. In 1996, Charles married Sarah Darlene Thompson in La Veta, Colo. Survived by his wife, Darlene Vigil; parents, Eliseo and Lucy (Ortiz) Vigil; children, Jessica Taylor, Steven and Michael Given and Felicia Allen; siblings, Stanley Ortiz, Lillian (Vigil) Lewis, Gerald and Michael Vigil; numerous other relatives and friends. Clyde Claude Vigil - Spokesman-Review - February 25, 2005 - Funeral for Clyde Vigil, 96, will be today at 1 p.m. at Lidgerwood Evangelical Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Vigil, who died last Friday, was born in Trinidad, Colo., and lived in Spokane for many years. He graduated from North Central High School in 1928 and worked in the lookouts for the Forest Service during the summers. Later, he worked as a furniture refinisher. He married Norma Munkwitz in 1932. After his retirement in 1973, he enjoyed working in the yard, fishing, square dancing and bowling, and singing with the Spokane Melody Singers. He had been a member of Lidgerwood Evangelical Church since 1939 and was a charter member if the Hi-Flyers Square Dance Club and a member of Hix-n-Chix and Diamond Squares. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ronald Vigil of Seattle, Jerald Vigil of Spangle and Randy Vigil of Deer Park; a daughter, Claudia Amsbury of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Cordelia Guadalupe Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - September 21, 2001 - Cordelia Guadalupe Vigil died Sept. 20, 2001, in Pueblo. She was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Gardner, Colo., to the union of Juan Benito and Maria Elena (Salazar) Pacheco. Preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Katherine Vigil and several brothers and sisters. Cordelia was a gentle, caring person who fought a long, brave battle with heart disease. Cordelia spent most of her life in Walsenburg. She found great solace in nature, wished people everywhere would be kinder to each other and worried about man's treatment of the earth. Left to celebrate all the happiness and love she brought to their lives are Ben Vigil, her husband of 53 years, and children, Gerald and Karen Vigil, all of Pueblo. Also survived by her sisters, Irene Abe of Pueblo, Amada Gonzales of Walsenburg and Lyda Castro of Napa, Calif., along with numerous nieces and nephews. Doctor Vigil – Pueblo Colorado Daily Chieftain – May 24, 1874 – The body of Doctor Virgil, who died about one month since at the Schuyler House, in South Pueblo, was exhumed yesterday at the Masonic cemetery, and will be sent east this morning to Troy, New York, where his relatives reside. Born Nov. 12, 1945 in Walsenburg, he was a graduate of Walsenburg High School and served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He had lived in Pueblo for over 30 years where he worked in sales. He loved his family and his junk. He was preceded in death by his father, Reynaldo Vigil. Survivors include his children, Cynthia (Rodney) Pacheco, Dr. Tammy Vigil and Sra. He was graduated from Huerfano County High School and attended college in Alamosa. He later moved to Denver. Her hobbies included camping and spending time with loved ones, friends and family members said. She was preceded in death by brothers Gerald Garbiso and Dave Biggar and a sister, Barbara Cruz. Along with her husband, she is survived by her children, Henry, Sheila and Lisa, all of Dotsero; her parents, Louie and Rose Garbiso; brothers Lonnie Garbiso of Las Vegas, Nev., Randy Garbiso of Pueblo and Gene Biggar of Pueblo; sisters Janet Mata of La Junta, Colo., and Beverly Garbiso of Pueblo; uncle Lorenzo Cruz of Denver; and a grandchild, Adrien Barela of Dotsero. Also survived by nine loving grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other great relatives and friends. Mr. Vigil was born July 30, 1925, in Rouse, Colo. Emma M. Vigil - Huerfano World - February 1, 2007 - It was a sunny January 29 day when the Lord cradled our beautiful mother in His arms and took her home. Emma was born January 1 to Gertrude and Sabas Duran in East Cucharas. Emma has been reunited with her parents, four brothers, four sisters, one grandson and her husband, Jake who preceded her in death. She is survived by three sisters: Mary Mares, Pueblo; Ophelia Martinez, Walsenburg; and Judy Vigil, San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by her children: Tom (Geraldine) Martinez, Wilfred (Veronica) Martinez, Patricia (Audra) Martinez, Debra (Thomas) Aichlmayr, Cheryl (Robert) Valdes, Ronald Vigil, Jacqueline Aragon, Richard (Loretta) Vigil and her beloved grandson, Josh Valdes. Mrs. Vigil had 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Our mother was a most special lady who devoted her life and love to God and her family. Funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2007, from St. Mary Catholic Church in Walsenburg. Ennie Maria Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - June 01, 2006 - Ennie Maria Vigil, 77, departed this life May 26, 2006, at her home with her family by her bedside. She was born March 15, 1929, in Costilla, N.M., to Alfredo and Faustina Quintana, who preceded her in death; along with daughter, Theresa Benavidez; brothers Tony, Praxedes and Clor Quintana; sister, Viola Trujillo; in-laws, Jose Elizando, Sinforosa C. Vigil, Felix and Paul Vigil. Ennie was a very faithful Catholic and attended church at Sacred Heart of Avondale. She was very devoted to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Special thanks to Hospice, Dr. Bahugana, and Bobbie from Argus. Evaristo Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - June 03, 2005 - Evaristo Vigil, 79, passed away May 31, 2005. Born May 6, 1926, in San Luis, Colo., to Malaquias and Mary Vigil, who preceded him in death; along with his son, three brothers, and one brother-in-law. Survived by his loving wife, Lila Vigil; daughters, Martha (Sal) Marquez, Betty (Gary) Hotzel, Priscilla (Randy) Padilla, Dorothy (Bob) De La Torre, Diane (Dave) Sandoval; grandson, Jerry (Renee) Prien, raised as his own son; also survived by five sisters; four brothers; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Evaristo retired from the Pueblo Army Depot. He was a former owner of the South Side Recreation Center. Evaristo also enjoyed playing cards and fishing. Everett Vigil - Pueblo Chieftain - August 23, 2005 - Everett Vigil, age 65, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, passed away in Pueblo, Colo., as a result of an accident. He was a retired civilian employee of the Air Force Academy. Everett was the master cake decorator at Mitchell Hall. He prepared all birthday cakes and special cakes for cadets and military personnel and most importantly all 4- to 6-foot cakes for cadet graduation. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed and loved forever. Mr. Vigil is survived by his wife of 45 years, Catherine Martinez Vigil; his children, Louella (Rob) Duran, David Vigil and Liane (Rich) Donohoe; grandchildren, Paul, Valerie, Jacob, Reuben, Sierra, Rebecca, Caitlin; stepgrandchildren, Storm Donohoe, Desirae Duran; and great-grandchildren, Max and Victor. Everett also is survived by his brothers and sisters, Louie, Katy, Bob, Louise, Charlotte, Alfred, Betty, Richard, Emily and Joyce. Fernando Wilfred Vigil Sr. - Huerfano World - February 25, 1993 - Fernando Wilfred Vigil Sr., 55, of Denver, formerly of Walsenburg, died Tuesday, February 23, 1993, in St. Anthony Central Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 19, 1938 in Walsenburg to Clarence and Sadie Vigil, he was raised in Walsenburg and attended local schools. He joined the Navy and after completing a six-year tour lived in California for ten years. In 1973, he moved to Denver, was self employed in Ferns and Vigil Restoration as a brick layer. He married Gayle Young in 1977. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Walsenburg. Survivors include his wife, Gayle, Denver; five sons, Clarence, Fernando Jr., Elmer, Christopher and Juan III, all of Lakewood; six daughters, Brenda Ibanez, Thornton, Stephanie Vigil, Sadie Vigil, Grace Vigil, Victoria Vigil and Coraena Vigil, all of Lakewood; a brother, Arnold, Walsenburg; three sisters, Priscilla Sanchez, Broomfield, Esther Vigil, Lakewood and Christina Gonzales, Walsenburg; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Rosary will be from St. Mary Church at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Mary. Cremation to follow. The family will receive friends at 447 East Fifth Street after the rosary and at Eagles Hall following the mass.
Flora Vigil - La Veta Signature - July 13, 1989 - Mrs. Flora Vigil, 51, of Walsenburg died Saturday, July 8 of a skull fracture of unknown origin. Mrs. Vigil was born at Sand Arroyo, West of Walsenburg, on August 28, 1937. She spent her early years in that area attending the country school there. She later attended school at West Seventh Street, Washington and St. Mary. She graduated from Walsenburg High School in 1956. Mrs. Vigil was active in the Plaza de Los Leones celebration, St. Mary PTA, Eagles, Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Mary Church and served as a Sacristan for the Sunday celebrations of worship. Mrs. Vigil is survived by her mother, Sarita Vasquez, Walsenburg, her former husband, Charles Bernard Vigil, Sr., Colorado Springs, two daughters, Elaine B. Barnett and Stephanie Lyn Vigil, a son, Charles B. Vigil, Jr., granddaughter Jacqueline Nicole Burnett, all of Walsenburg. Also brother and sisters: Ernest Vigil, El Paso TX, Erlinda Martin de Campos, Whittier, CA, Margaret Applehunt and Joe Ribali, Walsenburg, Chris and Tom Vigil, and Paul Victor Ribali, Pueblo, and Lucy Martinez, Denver, and aunt, Estella Pacheco, and an uncle Reynaldo Vigil, Walsenburg, and other relatives. Flora Clara Cordova Vigil - Huerfano World - April 10, 2003 - Flora Clara Cordova Vigil went to be with the Lord, her sisters, brother, mother and father on April 4, 2003 in Amarillo, TX. Flora was born to Jose Manuel Cordova and Bernardita Espinoza on Sept. 21, 1929. She was married to Louie Vigil on Oct. 7, 1946. She leaves her daughters, one son and grandchildren to cherish her memories, Theresa (David) Bustillos, Melissa, TX; Laverne, Syracuse, KS; Betty (Albert) Medina, Anthony Louie (Phyllis Cordova), Walsenburg; Julia (Charles Mestas) Denver; Pauline (Manuel) Enriquez, Syracuse, KS; Jeanette (Paul Bell), Amarillo, TX; and Sandy Vigil, Denver. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and her ex-husband, Louie Vigil. Mom is with her sisters and brothers now, Celestina (Sally) Sanchez, Juanita Gabaldon Chavez, Mary Trujillo, Abel, Fred, Claude, Clovis and Ted, leaving one brother, Abe (Wedo) Cordova, sisters-in-law, Pauline Cordova and Benerita (Betty) Cordova, Pueblo. Mom grew up in Walsenburg, lived in the place called The Poso, attended St. Mary's School until the 10th grade. She was an at-home mom to her children. She was a member of the Work Basket Sewing Club for many years. She was very happy living with her daughter, Jeanette, and her children for the last one 1½ years. She was a resident of Walsenburg Care Center and Spanish Peaks Veterans Nursing Home. At her request, she was cremated at Blackburn Shaw Memorial Chapel in Amarillo, TX. There will be a special mass service at St. Mary Church at a later date.

Mass was said Aug. 29 at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Erie. Interment was in Erie Cemetery. She was born Florence Rose Dominguez on June 15, 1934, in Walsenburg. She was a former employee of Coors Packaging and Barber's Poultry in Broomfield. She is survived by three sons, Tim and Randy, both of Longmont, and Ken, Boulder; a daughter, Laurie Herrera, Lafayette; a brother, Pete Dominguez, Denver; three sisters, Ersie Katach and Virginia Rodriquez, both of Erie, and Sophie Sandoval, Tucumcari, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Gallegos, WWII veteran; and Thomas S. Vigil, her husband of 48 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Survived by her children, Loretta (Phil) Vigil, Ron (Norma) Gallegos, Annabella (Val) Padilla, Thomas P. Vigil, Donald Vigil, Leonard Vigil and John Vigil. Also survived by her sister, Theresa Sandoval; grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Mickey raised her children like she took care of her garden - with pride and love. Born on April 28, 1997, in Pueblo. It was noted that in spite of his illness, Little Freddy was a happy child with a beautiful smile that certainly captured your attention and heart. Whatever the treatment given him by his doctors and nurses, somehow he always managed to smile and say "Thank you." He also enjoyed throwing and catching a ball. He is survived by his loving parents, Freddie and Roseanne (Albo) Vigil; a sister, Ashley Vigil; grandparents, Fred and Sally Vigil, Albert and Victoria Albo; godparents, Albert and Carlene Acosta; many special friends to include Mel Gomez, and Barbara Ripperger; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Born Jan. 1, 1924 in Sand Arroyo (North Veta) to the late Telesfora and Anastacio Vigil, he was a taxi driver. Survivors include; Ersie Roybal, Walsenburg; his children, Marie Vasquez, Florence Gonzales, Linda Ortega Johnson; Sarah Herrera, Elias Griego, Nora Vigil and Freida Rincon; two sisters, Louisa Vigil, Walsenburg and Viola Vigil, Pueblo; 35 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be from St. Mary Church in Walsenburg on Friday, Mar. 3. Rosary will be at 10 a.m. and mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in South St. Mary Cemetery.
