Valdez, Abel Eugene
Abel Eugene Valdez – Cañon City Daily Record – September 1, 2005 - Abel Eugene Valdez of Longmont died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette. He was 56. He was born in Walsenburg to Max and Juanita (Vasquez) Valdez on July 7, 1949. Mr. Valdez grew up in Walsenburg and graduated from Walsenburg High School. After having moved to Erie from California in 1975, Mr. Valdez married Janis Jaramillo on June 10, 1976. They moved from Lafayette to Longmont in 1988. Mr. Valdez previously worked at Ball Aerospace and was currently employed as custodian at the Boulder Mental Health Center. He was a member of the Longmont Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving as a deacon in the church. Mr. Valdez was devoted to his family and volunteered at the Applewood Living Center, reading and singing to the residents. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Valdez; and a sister, Maxine Valdez. Mr. Valdez is survived by his wife of Longmont; two sons, Eugene Valdez of Walsenburg and Jesus Martinez and his wife Randi of Longmont; three daughters, Jeanette Morales and her husband Ramon, Tasa Valdez and Petra Alarcon, all of Longmont; his father, Max Valdez of Longmont; a brother, William Valdez of Longmont; a sister, Alvina Valdez of Redwood City, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Steven Morales, Dustin Martinez, Moriah Martinez, Rebecca Morales, Jesus Martinez Jr., Joshua Martinez and Jacob Martinez. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Longmont Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1712 Mountain View Ave., with the Revs. Jerry Nowack and Ben Lieblt officiating. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory with inurnment at Foothills Gardens of Memory at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abel Valdez Fund and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501. Valdez, Abel Oscar
Abel Oscar Valdez - Huerfano World - June 11, 1992 - Rosary for Abel Oscar Valdez, 77, of Walsenburg was at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Valdez died June 8, 1992, in Huerfano County Medical Center after a brief illness. Born Mar. 29, 1915, in Walsenburg, he attended school in Gardner where he was raised and worked on several area farms. He was a school bus driver during the 1940's and a self-employed auto mechanic for many years. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Aragon, Walsenburg; his children, Jay Valdez and Peggy Smith, both of Pueblo, Randy Valdez and David Aragon, both of Walsenburg and Val Quintana, Tucson, AZ; five brothers, Raymond Valdez, Pueblo, Tony Valdez and Joe Valdez, Colorado Springs, Ned Valdez and Willy Valdez, Walsenburg; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Cremation. J.M. Antle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Adelaide Valdez - Alamosa Independent Journal - August 20, 1903 - Juan Chavez, who had been in the county jail at Trinidad for several weeks charged with the murder of Adelaide Valdez, committed suicide by taking poison on the 16th instant.

Valdez, Adeline
Adeline Valdez - Rocky Mountain News - March 13, 2001 - Adeline Valdez, 72, of Las Animas died March 9. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mrs. Valdez was born in Walsenburg on June 3, 1928. She married Fred Valdez, 1983. Survivors include her husband; sons Ernie Bobian of Denver, Joe Vialpando of Las Animas; daughters Evelyn Gallegos and Aleida Gomez, both of Las Animas, Virginia Salazar of Walsenburg; sister Nora Hurtado of Greeley; 11 grandchildren; many great- grandchildren.

Valdez, Adrianna Lucille
Adrianna Lucille Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - October 26, 2005 - Adrianna Lucille Valdez, 18, was called by God on Friday, Oct. 21, 2005. Adrianna was born Dec. 19, 1986, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is survived by her loving parents, Roland Valdez, Pueblo, Colo., and Marie and Stuart Holm, Puyallup, Wash.; stepsister, Shannon Holm, Puyallup, Wash.; paternal grandfather, Evan A. Valdez, San Luis, Colo.; maternal grandmother, Dolores Bentley, Pueblo, Colo.; special aunt and godmother, Cathy (Richard) Wojcik, Pueblo, Colo. She also is survived by many other family members and friends who loved her dearly, especially her two cousins, Andrew and Kevin, Pueblo, Colo. Her maternal grandfather, Robert D. Bentley; paternal grandmother, Louisa Valdez; and Simon, her pet Sheltie, who preceded Adrianna in death. Adrianna graduated from Puyallup High School in June 2005. She was currently attending Pierce Community College in Puyallup, Wash. Adrianna enjoyed being with her family and friends, listening to music, watching movies, getting manicures/pedicures with her mom and loved working at Azteca Restaurant in Tacoma, Wash. She will be remembered and missed by all. Memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 25 in Puyallup, Wash. Rosary, 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Romero Chapel. Funeral Mass, 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial to follow at Imperial Gardens Cemetery. A memorial fund has been set up in her name at CSCU, 3010 E. Anthony James Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - November 08, 2002 - Anthony James Valdez, 36, departed this life Nov. 4, 2002, in Ogden, Utah. A lifetime Pueblo resident, he formerly worked for the Colorado Highway Department. Graduated from Pueblo County High School in 1984, he enjoyed the great outdoors and fishing. Survived by his parents, George and Toni (Vigil) Valdez of Boone; children, Julia Valdez Dominguez, Ogden, Utah, Daniel Domingez, Denver, Anthony Jr., and Vincent Valdez both of Boone; siblings, Vivian (Ted) Valdez-Hall, Vineland, Richard (Jarnee) Valdez, Temecula, Calif., George (Lori) Valdez, Broomfield, Colo., Frank (Michael Davis) Valdez, Denver, Colo. Preceded in death by his grandparents; also an infant child. Both services Sacred Heart Catholic Church Avondale. Rosary vigil, 7 p.m. today. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Maurice O. Anthony was very instrumental in surveying the property and engineered the construction of the foundation for the St. Francis of Assisi Family Chapel in Boone, which was dedicated by Bishop Tafoya, and retired Bishop Buswell in June 2000. Anthony was preceded in death by an infant brother. He is also survived by his godparents, Robert and Orlinda Vigil of Kerns, Utah, and John Ambri of Pueblo. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. today, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Avondale, Rev. Maurice O. Gallagher, celebrant. Interment, St. Vrain Cemetery. Arthur Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - April 06, 2002 - Arthur Valdez, 62, passed away April 4, 2002. Preceded in death by his father, Ben Valdez; father-in-law, Joe Montoya; sons, Arthur R. Valdez and Larry Mondragon. Survived by his wife, Sylvia; mother, Rose Valdez; mother-in-law, Mary Montoya; son, Lloyd (MaryAnn Martinez) Mondragon; daughters, Cathy (James) Michopoulos and Jackie (Bob LaCrue) Vigil; numerous brothers and sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arthur Valdez - Walsenburg World – December 24, 1928 - Arthur Valdez, seven months and 22 day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Valdez, died December 22, and was buried December 23 at the Sandoval cemetery.

Valdez, Beatrice M.
Beatrice M. Valdez - Huerfano world - May 30, 1991 - Beatrice Maria Rita Valdez of Walsenburg, died May 25, 1991, in Huerfano County Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was 78. Born in Aguilar, May 13, 1913, she was a member of El Club Hispano Americano de Madras, La Sociedad de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe and La Confederacion Mutualista Mexicana EHA Americana. Survivors include her husband, Henry Valdez, Walsenburg; three daughters, Gloria Tennis, Walsenburg, Patricia Valdez, Lubbock, TX, and Henrietta Perkins, Belton, TX; three brothers, Henry Marquez, Joe E. Marquez and Ben E. Marquez, all of Aguilar; two sisters, Alice Mitchell, Sidney, NE, and Dora Lucern, Rocky Ford; three grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary was Wednesday from St. Mary Church in Walsenburg. Funeral service will be Thursday (today) from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Trinidad at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. Ben G. Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 25, 1999 - Ben G. Valdez, 82, passed away Dec. 22, 1999. Preceded in death by two daughters, one grandson, two sons-in-law, one brother, and his parents. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rose Valdez; sons, Henry (Cecilia), Arthur (Sylvia), James (MaryAnn), John (RoseMary), Dave (Priscilla), Joseph (Isabelle), Daniel (Sharon); daughters, Erma (Allan) Phillips, Lucille (Fred) Martinez, Patricia (Joe Raymond) Ayala, Nancy (Ken) Mestas, JoAnna (Chris) Vigil; also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and three sisters, Mary Aragon, Dominga Avila and Rita Baca. Benjamin Valdez – Huerfano World – April 27, 2006 – Benjamin Valdez, 78, of Pueblo, went to be with the Lord on April 21, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Filomena Valdez; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters. Survived by his loving wife, Bernice Valdez; children, Sharon (Alberto Romero) Valdez, Joe (Terri) Valdez and Dean (Patricia) Valdez; brother, Joe Valdez; sisters, Ernestine DeHerrera, Frances (Ross) Cruz, Flora Montana, Liz Tenorio and Eleanor Vialpando; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends. Valdez, Bernardo (Mrs.)
Mrs. Bernardo Valdez – Akron Weekly Pioneer Press – March 20, 1903 – On the 12th instant Bernardo Valdez, a miner near Hastings, Las Animas County, found his wife in a room with another man and killed her by cutting her throat with a razor.  Valdez was arrested.  He is about twenty-five years of age and his wife was twenty-two.  They had been married but five months.

Bonifacio Valdez - Huerfano World - September 10, 1992 - Bonifacio "Bonnie" D. Valdez, died Sunday, August 30, 1992 in Hayward, CA. He was 71. Born in Redwing in 1921 on the family ranch, he served in the military in Korea. He had lived in California for several years. Survivors include his wife, Anna Marie, Hayward; two daughters, Gail Bevilacqua, Dublin, CA; and Linda Sepulveda, Modesto, CA a sister, Dolores Manzanares, Walsenburg; a son, Daniel Valdez, Hayward; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

C. Valdez - Brandon Bell - October 17, 1913 - Strikers Report Mine Guard Killed - Trinidad - According to Adolph Gerner, in charge of the United Mine Workers at Walsenburg, C. Valdez, a guard at the Cameron mine, was killed by a Hungarian strikebreaker.

Valdez, Charles B.
Charles B. Valdez - Huerfano World - April 16, 1998 - Charles B. Valdez, 78, of Denver, formerly of Walsenburg, died July 13, 1998 in Denver. Born Nov. 4, 1919 in Turkey Creek to Esmel and Madilene Vialpando Valdez, he was married to Estella Cortez Valdez who died in 1991. Mr. Valdez was a member of the VFW, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was proud to have met Gen. Patton. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include three children, Gene Valdez, Rudy Valdez and Grace Martinez, all of Denver; brothers and sisters, Emilo, Robert and Christelda; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Gardner at 1 p.m. Thursday (today). Graveside service by the Fort Carson Burial Team. Burial in Valdez Cemetery in Turkey Creek.

Valdez, Charles Eugene
Charles Eugene Valdez - Cadillac News - September 28, 2004 - Cadillac, MI - Charles Eugene Valdez of Copemish died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at Munson Hospice House. He was 74. He was born in Redwing, Colo. to Petrolino and Margaret (Garcia) Valdez on June 14, 1930. He married Shirley Berry on Oct. 25, 1952 in Detroit. She preceded him in death in May 1995. Mr. Valdez was very interested in pig roasts for special events and parties. He also enjoyed farming, taking care of his cows and pigs and general merriment. He was a hard worker and while in the Detroit area, he was employed by General Motors for 17 years. He also was a Korean War veteran and earned a purple heart. Survivors include daughters, Donna Valdez of Traverse City, Deborah (Ronald) O'Dette of Cadillac and Barbara Valdez of Wellston; eight grandchildren, Shane Gabier, Montel Gabier, Chelsea Gunnerson, Kevin Evens, Tigran Valdez, Jory Bailey, Jade Bolthouse and Olivia Bolthouse; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents, Petrolino and Margaret; and brother, Floyd Valdez. Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City with Floyd Valdez officiating. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mesick-Sherman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

Charlie R. Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 20, 1986 - Charlie R. Valdez, late of Colorado Springs, died July 18, 1986. Husband of Nicki Valdez and father of Lori Ann Becerra. Grandfather of Mario Becerra and a brother of Maria Velasquez of Ogden, Utah. Also survived by nephew, Ben Castro, as well as other nephews and nieces. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Recitation of the rosary, 7 pm Sunday at Rivera Chapel. Rosary recitation, 7 p.m. Monday and Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Tuesday. Both services at St. Joseph Church. Valdez, Chris A.
Chris A. Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 19, 1999 - Chris A. Valdez, longtime Pueblo resident, passed away on Dec. 14, 1999, in Oviedo, Fla. He was 86. Chris was born on July 30, 1913, in Metcalf, Ariz. He graduated from Central High School, Pueblo, in 1933. He married Stella Espinoza of Walsenburg in May 1941. Chris served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning four Bronze Stars and the Arrowhead Bronze for battles and campaigns in northern and central Europe. Chris was employed by Colorado Fuel & Iron Corp. for many years. He was active in the United Steelworkers Union Local 2102 at CF&I and served as union president for nine years. Chris was active in St. Francis Xavier parish in Pueblo and in the Pueblo community. He retired in 1975 and lived in Long Beach, Calif., and St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Oviedo, Fla., 13 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Stella Valdez; his son, Richard Valdez of Longmont; and his daughter, Christine Nicola of Oviedo. He also had two grandchildren living in St. Louis, Marissa and Mark Valdez, and two living in Oviedo, Kelly and Kevin Nicola. A memorial Mass will be held on Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Pueblo. His remains will be buried at Imperial Gardens Cemetery in Pueblo at a private service.

Claudio "Claude" Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - August 22, 1999 - Claudio "Claude" Valdez, 79, resident of Security, passed away Aug. 19, 1999,at Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs. Born on Jan. 25, 1920, in El Rito, N.M., served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Member of VFW Post 61 in Pueblo, Holy Family Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus, both in Security. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Josephine Archuleta Valdez-children, Anthony (Cindy) Valdez, Mary Jane (Charles) Newsome, Annette (James) Zell, all of Colorado Springs, Bernice (Andrew) Esquibel, Pueblo- two sisters-two brothers- 11 grandchildren- 13 great-grandchildren- other relatives and friends. Both services, Holy Family Catholic Church, Security. Rosary vigil, 7p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. Dan Ayers, celebrant. Full military honors by Fort Carson Honor Guard at graveside Evergreen Cemetery.

Daniel Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 29, 2003 - Daniel Valdez, 52, of Pueblo, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2003. Born on March 19, 1950, in Pueblo. Preceded in death by his father, Anthony F. Valdez. Survived by his wife, Myrian Valdez; mother, Beatrice Valdez; children, Danell, James, Steve; stepsons, Endrik and Brian; brothers, Anthony (Loretta) Valdez, Richard (Jennie) Valdez, Rudy (Mary Ann) Valdez; sisters, Rosalie (Elmer) Patterson, Shirley (Ernie) Williams, Nadine (Gilbert) Chavez; godsons, Adrian Martinez and Jimmy Chavez Jr. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Dan graduated from Centennial High School, after graduation he attended the University of Southern Colorado. In 1971, he joined the U.S. Navy. He resided in Denver, Colo., where he retired from Gates Rubber Co. after 26 loyal years. Enjoying his retirement as a broker/associate at Elite Real Estate Group. Dan was a loving son, brother, husband, father and friend who was always sharing his time. He will be sadly missed. Viewing, 1 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Romero Chapel. Daniel J. Valdez - Huerfano World - January 24, 1991 - Memorial service for Huerfano native, Daniel J. Valdez, who died Jan. 2, 1991, in Phoenix, AZ, will be Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. from St. Mary Church in Walsenburg. Mr. Valdez was cremated and his ashes will be buried in Valdez Cemetery east of Walsenburg following the service. Born Sept. 8, 1909, in Walsenburg, he is survived by two sons, Arthur Valdez, Phoenix and Leroy Valdez, Pueblo, two daughters, Irene Valdez, Albuquerque, NM, and Rose Magana, Phoenix; three brothers, Jacob Valdez, Denver, Leo Valdez, Pueblo and Max Valdez, Walsenburg; one sister, Frances Martinez, Albuquerque; grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Valdez, Dustin Jade
Dustin Jade Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - August 07, 2002 - Dustin Jade Valdez, 18, of Pueblo, Colo., died Aug. 3, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Jenifer Partin and Mike Partin; sister, Brandee Valdez; grandparents, Jerry and Betty Breshears; nephew, Shaddon Valdez; cousin, Jeremy Masters and wife Torre and son Matthew; and numerous friends and relatives. Dustin loved Choco Tacos and traveling on his motorcycle, especially to Sturgis. He loved life and women, and was a great son and wonderful brother, uncle and best friend. His family will miss him beyond words. Life without him will never be the same. Cremation by Roselawn Cemetery & Funeral Home. Mr. Valdez was born in Center, Colo., on May 14, 1928, a son of the late Pete and Raynaldita Arellano Valdez. Eddie is survived by his wife, Tee Cisneros Valdez. They were married Feb. 22, 1942. Elvira Valdez - Delta County Independent - February 4, 2005 - Elvira Valdez of Delta died on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. She was 96. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's. Father Mark Bettinger will preside. Burial will follow at Delta City Cemetery. Mrs. Valdez was born on Sept. 8, 1908, in Colfax County, N.M., to Frank and Remieja (Charrette) Flores. She spent her childhood and attended school in Taos, Cimarron and Dawson, N.M., and in Trinidad. She lived in San Fernando, Calif., before moving to Delta in 1962. She married Bennie Valdez on May 23, 1923, in Trinidad. He died in January 1986. Mrs. Valdez was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, Our Lady of Guadalupe Society and Altar and Rosary Society. She sang in the Spanish choir. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and working in politics. She volunteered at Delta Middle School, helping teach English to Spanish-speaking children. Mrs. Valdez is survived by three sons and their wives, John and Tina Valdez of Delta, Roger and Lupe Valdez of Simi Valley, Calif., and Edward and Lisa Valdez of Acton, Calif.; three daughters, Flora Lewis, and Geraldine "Gerry" Duran and her husband Lawrence, all of Delta, and Delia Martinez and her husband Joe of Palmdale, Calif.; a brother and his wife, Joe and Eva Trujillo of Grand Junction; 23 grandchildren, Pat, Hank, Saul, Ruby, Benji, Bobby, Tommy, Gary, Sharon, Robbie, Rose, Terry, John Jr., Valerie, Lawrence Jr., Roger Jr., Renee, Eric, Sylvia, Eddie Jr., Matthew, Richard and Linda; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. Valdez was born on June 22, 1919, in Gardner, Colo. to Juan B. and Lucaria (Maes) Duran. She married Pete Valdez on Feb. 14, 1944, in Santa Maria, Calif. They had six children. Valdez was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Colorado Springs and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughters, Olivia Valdez and Vivian Bunk. She is survived by her son, Richard (Dallas) Valdez; daughters Trish (Larry) Uhrich, Cathi (Scott) Zunk, Gerrie (Randy) Peterson; brothers Tony Duran, Frank Duran and Jim Duran; sisters Rose Gutirrez and Bernice Trujillo; grandchildren Jason and Christian Uhrich, Brian and Brad Peterson, Amy and Lindsey Zunk and Jessica Valdez; and one great-grandchild, Alexander Uhrich. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m., today, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eagle and a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St Mary's Catholic Church of Eagle. Floyd Gilbert Valdez - Huerfano World - March 1, 1990 - Floyd Gilbert Valdez, 58, of Denver, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 1990, of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on I-70 near Golden. He was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital where he died. Born Jan. 16, 1932, in Gardner to Pete and Margaret Garcia Valdez, he was reared in the ranching and farming communities of Gardner and Redwing and attended Gardner and Walsenburg schools. He entered the Army in 1950 and served three years. He married the former Erlinda A. Cisneros June 27, 1951 in Sacred Heart Church in Gardner. Most of Mr. Valdez' life has been spent in the Denver area working for a water well drilling company. Recently he was employed by the Colorado Academy, a private school, doing electrical maintenance work. Mr. Valdez was an active member of St. Cajetan's Church in Denver. He belonged to a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Club and enjoyed horseback riding and ranching in his spare time at his ranch near Larkspur. Survivors include his wife, Erlinda, Denver, three children, Floyd "Corky" Valdez and Maria Theresa Padilla, both of Denver and Juanita I. Mullin, Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Charles Valdez, Copemish, MI and Louis Valdez, Pueblo; a sister, Suzanne O'Brien, Victorville, CA, his mother-in-law, Teresina Cisneros, Walsenburg; four grandchildren, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gilbert R. Valdez - Huerfano World - February 4, 1999 - Gilbert "Gil" Richard Valdez, 53, of South Jordan, Utah, was killed in a collision on January 19, 1999. He was traveling to work at Kennecott Copper, where he was employed as a mine operations supervisor. Born in Walsenburg, August 13, 1945, he was the third child of 10 born to Nick and Sally Valdez. Before his tragic death, Gil was caring for his ailing wife and son. Scott, at the age of two, was overdosed by the hospital and has since been confined to a wheelchair. Cheryl, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 10 years ago, is also in a wheelchair. Gil dedicated his life to helping others and even in death Gil continues to help others. Gil was an organ donor. Gilberta Grace Pacheco Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - May 24, 2001 - Gilberta Grace Pacheco Valdez, 36, departed this life May 20, 2001, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. A lifetime Puebloan, she was born Dec. 15, 1964. Gilberta was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 19. She was a registered nurse for the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo Geriatrics Unit. She was known for her beautician skills, sharp wit and beautiful smile. Gilberta loved shopping, gardening, motorcycling, entertaining family and friends and her "babies" at her backyard barbecues. She married Vernon Valdez on Dec. 29, 1984, in Pueblo. Inez G. Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 17, 2002 - Age 60, a Pueblo resident for the past 42 years, departed this life peacefully with her family gathered around her bed on Jan. 10, 2002. Mrs. Valdez was born Jan. 3, 1942, in Fort Collins. A devout Catholic, she began each day of her life reciting her rosary. She enjoyed sewing, watching "her Denver Broncos" and doing various projects with her grandchildren. All of them were the apple of her eyes. Valdez, Jacob
Jacob "Jake" Valdez - Huerfano World - August 31, 1989 - Jake Valdez, 70, died Aug. 23, 1989, in Walsenburg after a brief illness. Born Feb. 27, 1919, in Farr, the son of Meliton and Simonita Valdez, he attended school at Cucharas Camps. He joined the U.S. Army in January, 1941, and was a heavy machine gunner in Normandy, Northern France and central Europe during World War II. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart on Sept. 20, 1944. He was honorably discharged July 30, 1945. Mr. Valdez began work at CF&I Steel Mill in 1949 and continued there for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He married the former Natividad Medina July 2, 1956. Mr. Valdez was a past member of AFL-CIO Steel Worker's Union, VFW Post #2643 and St. Mary Church. Survivors include his wife, Natividad of the family home, seven children, Stephanie Valdez, Aurora, Barbara Herrera and Regina Valdez, both of Pueblo, Arthur Valdez, Paul Valdez, Ben Valdez and Patricia Valdez, all of Walsenburg; four sisters, three brothers, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in Valdez Cemetery with full military honors. J.M. Antle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jr. of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Sophia West of Colorado Springs and Margaret Knutson of Minnesota; three stepsons, Robert Baca of Colorado Springs, Tony Baca of Petaluma, Calif., and Richard Baca of Reno, Nev.; three stepdaughters, Vicky Algiene of Aurora, Betty Castellanos of Reno and Theresa Baca of Colorado Springs; four brothers, Raymond of Pueblo, Tony of Colorado Springs, William and Nedio, both of Walsenburg; 26 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The job took him to various states including Michigan, Utah and Wyoming for 10 years and back to Colorado for the past three years. Josephine Mary Valdez – Pueblo Chieftain – October 16, 2006 - Josephine Mary Valdez, 79, of Pueblo, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 13, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Valdez Sr.; brother, Ben Trujillo; sister-in-law, Maria Evila Trujillo; and brother-in-law, Fred Solano. She is survived by her children, Molly (Rosendo) Melendez, Rachel (Jesus) Perez, Roy E. Valdez Jr. and Tommy R. Valdez; brothers, Alfred (Dee) Trujillo, Maxi (Joann) Trujillo, Louis Trujillo and Jerry (Diane) Solano; sisters, Lilian Solano and Beatrice (Victor) Roybal; grandchildren, Verna, Tanya, Margarita, Natalie, Tasha, Mateo, Vanessa, Enrique and Melissa; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Julio Jesus "JJ", Raquel, David, Patricia and Jaylynn; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Josephine enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as music and dancing. Viewing, 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, and vigil service to follow at 6 p.m., at Romero Chapel. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Leander Church, with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received at Romero's hall after burial.

Valdez, Juan Leonardo
Juan Leonardo Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - August 22, 1999 - Juan Leonardo Valdez, 79, passed away Aug. 20, 1999. Survived by his wife of55 years, Juanita Valdez- children, Dorothy Ann (James) O'Dowd of Denver, John L. Valdez of Denver, Elizabeth L. (Joe) Maestas of Irvine, Calif., Charles Ray (Patricia) Valdez of Pueblo, Samuel J. Valdez of Pueblo West, Elaine M. (Daniel) Cordova of Loveland, Tina L. (Sean) Dingle of Pueblo West- 18grandchildren- seven great-grandchildren- and nine brothers and sisters. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Frances Valdez- and granddaughter, Kristina L. Valdez. Mr. Valdez served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and began his employment with CF&I where he retired after 35years of service. Rosary, 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Funeral, 2 p.m. Monday. Both services at St. Joseph Church.

Valdez, Juan Pedro Teodoro
Juan Pedro Teodoro “Ted” Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - October 13, 2002 - Juan Pedro Teodoro “Ted” Valdez, entered eternal life on Oct. 10, 2002, at the family home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Vadito, N.M., on July 2, 1925. Mr. Valdez was a federal worker and retired from the Pueblo Army Depot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benito Valdez and Maria Sanchez Valdez; his wife, Mary Ofelia Valdez; his son, Benjamin; and six siblings, Cleofas, Carlotta, Teresa, Benito, Miguel and Ismael. He is survived by three daughters, Priscilla (Ignacio) Barron, Barbara (Jan) L'Hommedieu, and Carol Valdez; two sons, Ted (Loretta) and Lawrence (Yvonne). To cherish his memory he leaves his granddaughter, Carol Silva and his additional eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Corina Duran, Stella Barreras and his twin sister Minnie Valdez; and brothers, Gilbert, Valentin and Octaviano. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, and love and devotion to his family. Throughout his lifetime, he helped countless people, friends and strangers alike, and his generosity will not be forgotten. Visitation, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Juanita Valdez - Pueblo Chieftain - June 17, 2000 - Juanita Valdez, 75, passed away June 15, 2000. Born June 24, 1924, in Union County, N.M. Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Juan Leonardo Valdez; parents, Felicita and Melquiades Gonzales; sisters, Frances Vigil and Elis Garcia; brother, Julian Gonzales; and granddaughter, Kristina Valdez. Survived by her children, Dorothy Ann (James J.) O'Dowd of Denver, John Leonard Valdez of Denver, Elizabeth Lucille (Joe A.) Maestas of Irvine, Calif., Charles Raymond (Patricia L.) Valdez of Pueblo, Samuel Joseph Valdez of Pueblo West, Elaine Marie (Daniel) Cordova of Loveland, Colo., Tina Lorraine (Sean) Dingle of Pueblo West; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother; and four sisters. Juanita was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active Democrat, a member of the PTA and the Navy Mother's Club. She was retired from School District 60. Juanita was loved by and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and sewing. Rosary, 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Monday. Both services at St. Joseph Church. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens.

Valdez, Juanita I.
Juanita I. "Jenny” Valdez – Cañon City Daily Record – June 3, 2005 - Juanita I. Jenny Valdez of Walsenburg died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at her son's home in Longmont. She was 79. She was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Walsenburg to Victor and Eduvigen (Gonzales) Vasquez. Ms. Vasquez attended Walsenburg High School and lived in Erie from 1972 to 1979. She returned to Walsenburg in 1979 and lived there until May 2005, when she moved to Longmont. Ms. Vasquez was a cook at Corrine's and for Head Start school, retiring in 1989. A member of the Catholic faith, she was a member of Plaza De Los Leones Latin Club and fraternal order of Eagles. She enjoyed sewing, doing things for others and playing pokeno. Ms. Vasquez was preceded in death by a daughter; Maxine Valdez; and 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, Abel and William Valdez both of Longmont; a daughter, Alvina Valdez of Redwood City, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jeanette, Eugene, Eloy Rene, Petra, Tasa and Jesus; and nine great-grandchildren. Rosary prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m. Friday, June 3, at St. Mary's Church in Walsenburg. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
