Patricia M. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 15, 1999 - Patricia M. Martinez passed away Dec. 13, 1999, in Pueblo. Patricia was born in DeLand, Fla., on April 18, 1947, and had lived in Pueblo since 1985. She was employed as a ward clerk in the Air Force Academy Hospital. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her husband, Ernest Martinez, Pueblo; mother, Mercedes Chamberlain, Rhode Island; children, Albert Martinez, Hawaii, and Alicia Martinez, Pueblo; brothers, Dennis Cooney, Georgia and Michael Cooney of Indiana; sisters, Jeanne Madison, South Carolina, and Kathy Earigan, Rhode Island; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martinez will lie in state at the mortuary from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday. A vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, in the Davis Memorial Chapel. Services and interment will be held next week in the Rolling Hills Cemetery in Canton, Ga.

Patsy "Pat" Leora Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - September 16, 1997 - Patsy "Pat" Leora Martinez, 42, of Pueblo, passed away Sept. 11, 1997. Born on Oct. 7, 1954, in Arroyo Seco, N.M., the fourth child of Eloy B. and Elvira M. Martinez, Pueblo. Survived by parents- brothers, Arthur (Jeannie) Martinez, Thornton, Colo., Leroy Martinez, Pueblo, Ruben (Lea) Martinez, Pueblo, Mario (Mary) Martinez, Denver, Colo., and Ernesto Martinez, Pueblo- sisters, Loretta Romero, Pueblo, Rita (Frank) Marquez, Pueblo, Celina (Joe) Salas, Pueblo, Lourdes (Kenneth) Chavez, Pueblo, and Marie (Ted) Perez, Pueblo- 12 nieces and nephews- goddaughter, Clara Martinez- and special niece, Cherisa Cisneros. Pat loved family events, dancing (She loved cumbias) and the color purple. She was a kind, gentle and considerate soul. She treasured little things, a friendly smile, a kind touch, a thoughtful act and graphy. During her time on Earth, she brought great joy to her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her parents and family. God bless and keep her in everlasting life. Vigil rosary, 7 p.m. today. Funeral Mass, 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Paul Martinez – Pueblo Chieftain - January 14, 1990 – Paul Martinez, 83, of Pueblo, died Jan. 12, 1990. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Martinez. He is survived by sons: Cornelio (Viola) Martinez, Martin (Julia) Martinez; and Ross Martinez, all of Pueblo. He is also survived by his brother Cornelio Martinez, 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Vigil service 7 p.m. Monday, and Mass of Christian Burial, 10 am Tuesday. Paul Porferio Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 18, 1987 - Paul Porferio Martinez, 77, late of 1010 E. Fourth, departed this life Dec. 17, 1987, St. Joseph's Hospital in Florence, Colo. "P.P.," as he was affectionately known to his friends, was born July 19, 1910, in Walsenburg, Colo. Preceded in death by sisters, Delia Ortega, Nellie Martinez, and Caroline Martinez. He was very active in DAV Steel City Chapter 39, serving as commander from 1968 to 1970. He served also as department DAV commander in 1972 on the state level. He received numerous awards for his dedication and outstanding service to the DAV. He especially enjoyed recruiting new members and dedicated much of his retirement time assisting in constructing the Chapter 39 DAV building located on O'Neal. Paul and Eva were foster parents to numerous children from 1968 to 1981. Paul is survived by his wife, Eva; son, LeeRoy (Rosalie) Martinez; grandchildren, Terri Martinez, Dean (Tammy) Martinez, Tricia (Ernie) Romero; great-grandchildren, Tino Trujillo, Ryan and Jared Romero, Mimi, Michael and Catherine Martinez. Rosary recitation, 7:30 p.m. Friday, and Mass of Christian Burial, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, both services at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Juan B. Martinez. Survived by her children, Juan (Isabel) Martinez, Liz Zuniga, Geraldine Lujan, Reyes (Lisa) Martinez, Michole Martinez, Diane Martinez, Rueben (Audra) Martinez, Edward (Tracy Pena) Martinez. Born April 19, 1914, in Wagon Mound, N.M., she served in the U.S. Army WACS during WWII. At the former Pueblo Army Base, she helped to guard prisoners kept in the holding camps. Pete Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - April 25, 1999 - Pete Martinez, 77, departed this life April 22, 1999. A Pueblo resident for the past 49 years, Mr. Martinez was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Walsenburg. He retired from Bernstein Brothers. He enjoyed going to Mexico for vacations, shopping for bargains, and Saturday night dances. Eastside friends would remember Pete, as he would always take them grocery shopping and to pay their bills. Pete was known for saying, "we should help each other instead of trying to hurt each other." Survived by three sons, Pete (Cecelia) Martinez, Jr., Leonard (Lucille) Martinez, all of Pueblo, John Martinez, Dodge City, Kan. - 10 grandchildren- 18 great-grandchildren- and one great-great-grandchild. Pete J. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - March 15, 1986 - Pete J. Martinez, a Pueblo resident since 1971, late of 2806 Fifth Ave. departed this life March 14, 1986. Mr. Martinez was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He retired from the Colorado State Hospital in 1984, after 10 years of service. He was a member of the Colorado Pharmaceutical Association, the New Mexico Pharmaceutical Association, St. Pius Church and was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his father, Martin Martinez. Survivors include his wife, Ruthie W. Martinez of the family home; his mother, Frances Martinez of Pueblo; two daughters, Kathleen Oreo of Ruidoso, N.M., and Mary Martinez of Albuquerque, N.M.; three stepsons, Larry Blansett of Baton Rouge, La., and Jerry and Bobby James of Denver; one stepdaughter, Patsy Callahan of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Vern Martinez of Pueblo; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; sons, Frank Martinez Jr. and Willie Martinez; and her daughter, Frances Martinez. Survived by her children, Nerio Martinez of New Mexico, Elena Martinez, Pueblo, Evelyn (Charles) Alexander, Arkansas, and Richard (Yvonne) Martinez, Pueblo; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and her special friend and companion of 41 years, Francis Winget, who was like a father to her children. Raymond J. G. Martinez - Fort Morgan Times - July 11, 2006 - Raymond J. G. Martinez, 72, died Thursday at the North Valley Medical Center in Thornton. Martinez was born June 2, 1934, in Denver to Frank and Della (Apodaca) Martinez. He married Pauline G. Flores June 26, 1965, in Aguilar. They moved to Fort Morgan in 1966 from Denver. He taught school in the Fort Morgan School District for nearly 30 years. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Martinez enjoyed reading, especially historical things, traveling, genealogy, music, tinkering around the house and was a conservationist before it became mainstream. Survivors include his wife, Pauline of Fort Morgan; two daughters, Tina M. Dominguez of Novato, Calif., and Theresa M. Martinez of Thornton; three brothers, Rudolph Martinez and Daniel Martinez, both of Seattle, Wash., and John Martinez of Northglenn; two sisters, Mary Lou Montoya and Shirley Martinez, both of Denver, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Frank Martinez. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at Saint Cajetas Catholic Church in Denver. Interment will follow in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. The Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Survived by wife, Virginia of the family home; children, Elmer (Andrea) Baca, Texas; Richard Jr. (Tina) Martinez, Fort Collins; Felix (Sydni) Martinez, Longmont; Rudy Martinez, Genevieve (Gary) Burger, Rosalie (Tom) Vigil, Bernadine (Andrew) Martinez, Richard (Pat) Gibbons, Dan (Cora) Gibbons, all of Pueblo; Cathy (Tom) Gallagher, California. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Linda "Tina" Martinez; his four children, Gregory, Leopoldo "Leo," Raquel and Leah, all of Fort Collins; two sisters, Genevive (Gary) Burger of Pueblo West and Rosalie (Tom) Vigil, Pueblo; and three brothers, Elmer (Andrea) Baca of Texas, Felix (Sidney) Martinez of Longmont and Rudy Martinez of Colorado. He also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and friends. Mr. Martinez was born Oct. 8, 1947, in Pueblo, where he resided until four years ago when he and his family moved to Fort Collins. He was born on October 7, 1920 to Benjamin and Bernice (Martinez) Gutierrez in Florence, CO. Richard was a coal miner at the Allen mine and worked for C.F.& I. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Richard enjoyed taking care of his yard, going fishing and just getting in the car to go for a drive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Isabel and Juanita and step-son, Edward Bonney. He enjoyed fishing and his garden; chilies were his specialty. Richard Martin Martinez – Pueblo Chieftain – September 10, 2006 - Richard Martin Martinez, 41, born Aug. 26, 1965, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord Sept. 1, 2006. Preceded in death by his father, Cecil Martinez; and good friend, Glenda Finnell. Survived by his mother, Celia Martinez; sisters, Marlene Martinez, Sandy (Ross) Medina, Sharon (Thomas) Martinez and Christine Doose. He is also survived by his 12 nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and -nephews; and former brothers-in-law, Ben Santistevan and Larry Doose. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army and when he returned, he worked at King Soopers for many years. He was a very dedicated and loving son, brother and uncle. He will be greatly missed by numerous relatives, neighbors and friends. Richard had a huge heart and loved spending time with his family and taking care of his mother. Born Apr. 27, 1923 in Walsenburg, his parents died when he was young and he lived with an aunt and his grandmother Vivianita Martinez. When he was 16, he entered the CC Camps and later the US Army. On Aug. 12, 1946, he married Viola Pacheco and worked at several jobs, but devoted 21 years to Pueblo Army Depot, retiring in 1977. Survivors include his wife, Viola, Walsenburg; six children, Ruben "Rocky" Martinez, Janice Bernal, Russell Martinez and Randy Lee Martinez, all of Walsenburg, Joann Darlene DelaCruz, Partier, CA, and Rodney Michael Martinez, Concord, NH; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, aunts, nieces and nephews. Sally Inez Martinez - Lafayette Colorado - November 24, 2000 - Sally Inez Martinez of Lafayette, a former Safeway Stores employee, died Saturday in Northglenn. She was 83. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 W. Simpson St., Lafayette. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. She was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Walsenburg. On Dec. 25, 1935, she married Lloyd Martinez in Denver. He preceded her in death. She was active with the Latin American Educational Foundation and the Altar and Rosary Society. Her interests included cooking and playing cards. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn L. Rivera, Aurora, and Sharon Stetson, Lafayette; a son, Leslie, San Marcos, Calif.; a sister, Victoria Cicerone, Denver; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Sarah Ann Martinez - Trinidad Times Independent – May 2, 2004 - Sarah Ann Martinez, 39, passed away unexpectedly April 25, 2004.She was born in Trinidad Nov. 11, 1964, to Virginia and Julian Martinez. She attended Trinidad High, graduating in 1983. She was employed as a cook at the El Capitan for eight years. Sarah loved to crochet. Her ever-present smile will truly be missed. Preceding her in heath is her father Julian Martinez. Survivors are her mother Virginia Martinez, Trinidad; a sister, Augusta Sanchez and husband Roger; an aunt, Mary Martinez, Trinidad; two nieces and many dear friends. Visitation was Thursday at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, April 30, at 10 a.m. at Comi Funeral Home Chapel with Father Gene Renard officiating. Selso John Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - September 23, 2000 - Selso John Martinez, 76, Avondale resident, departed this life Sept. 22, 2000, at Belmont Lodge. Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Mosquero, N.M. He was a farmer and had worked for several Pueblo County farmers over the years and sold produce. In his twilight years, Selso enjoyed meeting his friends at the Avondale Loaf N Jug, discussing various events and scratching lottery tickets. He was known to family and friends for his excellent pot of green chili and fried potatoes. His friendly smile and personality will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Senon Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 15, 1986 - Senon Martinez, 86, died July 13, 1986, at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital. Mr. Martinez was born June 23, 1900, at Mavrisio Canyon, west of Aguilar. He married the former Sarafina Garcia in Trinidad in October 1923. He owned and operated several sawmills during almost the 60 years he worked. He retired in 1976 to fish and hunt. He was also known for his service as the superintendent of schools in Rouse for six years. Mr. Martinez was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Sarafina of the family home; his children, William Martinez, Denver; Julian Martinez, Brandon, Fla.; Mrs. Florence Hill, Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Elenor Smircich, Mrs. Lee Corral, and David Martinez, all of Walsenburg; and Ben Martinez, Rogers, Ark.; sister, Ruth Gallegos and brother, Jerry Martinez, both of Loveland; 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Recitation of rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday; Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Thursday, both services at St. Mary Catholic Church. Serafina (Sarah) Martinez - Huerfano World - March 11, 1999 - Serafina (Sarah) Martinez, Walsenburg resident, left this earth on March 5, 1999. She was born May 13, 1908 in Aguilar, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Senon, son, Chris and grandson, Ronald Smircich. She is survived by her children, William and Julian Martinez, Eleanor (John) Smircich, Lee (Jose) Corral, all of Walsenburg; Florence Hill of Atlanta, GA, Dave (Becky) Martinez of Trinidad, Ben (Joyce) Martinez of Denver, 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and special friend Barbara Cisneros.. Sarah's greatest pride was her children and she was always quick to say that she was proud of each and everyone. Her greatest accomplishment was building unconditional family unity and love. The family's greatest blessing in life was every moment we shared with her. Visitation and rosary were held March 8th at Romero Funeral Home in Walsenburg. Funeral mass was held March 9th at St. Mary Catholic Church, also in Walsenburg with interment at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Aguilar, CO. Family and friends were received after the interment at Mazzone Hall across from the Catholic Church in Walsenburg.

Also survived by four great-granddaughters, Marie, Jacquelyn Pachek, Victoria Page, and Gwendolyn Weldon, also all of Pueblo. Predeceased by husband, Ernest M. Martinez, in 1981. Member of Shrine of St. Therese Parish. Pueblo resident since 1952 and was credit manager for Lerner's and Diana Shop until her retirement. Services and interment directed in Pagosa Springs.

Snida S. Martinez - Huerfano World - February 25, 1993 - Snida S. Martinez, 87, died Feb. 18, 1993 in Pueblo after a long illness. Born in Johnstown Nov. 24, 1905, she came to Walsenburg in 1936. In 1956, she started a small antique shop in Loma Park which she named Snida's Country Store. She later moved the shop to its present location on Hendren Street in Walsenburg. Mrs. Martinez was a member of Coronado Club, Latin American Club and St. Mary Church. Her husband, Paul A. Martinez died in 1970. Survivors include two sons, Melvin P. Martinez, Pueblo and Melvin Wayne Martinez, Germany; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral mass was Monday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in Pino Cemetery in Badito. J.M. Antle Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Martinez - Huerfano World - July 22, 1993 - Stanley Martinez, 72, died in Denver July 13, 1993. Born in Rocky Mountain, Sept. 28, 1921, he attended Walsenburg schools and was enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps for three years until his induction into the US Army. He was honorably discharged after an injury into the care of his parents with whom he had lived his entire life. Survivors include his father, Gasper Martinez, Denver. Funeral mass was Saturday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in North St. Mary Cemetery.

Stephanie Brianna Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 06, 2002 - Age 5, departed this life unexpectedly New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2001, at Parkview Medical Center. A Pueblo resident for the last four years, she was born Nov. 15, 1996, in Torrance, Calif. She was a kindergarten student at Irving School. Stephanie was a very happy and gifted little girl who loved her new teddy bear from Grandma Belia. She also loved to sing along with the Disney Channel and knew all the words to her favorite songs, "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "I Cry" by JaRule. She liked being a big sister to her two brothers. She loved to wear hats and play with her Barbie doll collection. Stephanie leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Samuel and Valerie (Mendoza) Martinez; two brothers, Sammy Martinez Jr. and David Rowe III; grandmother, Maxine Mendoza; grandfather, Richard Herrera; great-grandparents, David and Stella Carrillo; two uncles, Joseph and Andrew Mendoza; an aunt, Lisa Mendoza; godparents, Mike Aragon and Teresita Shalton; numerous other relatives and friends. Predeceased by great-grandparents, Roberto and Belia Mendoza. Visitation, noon until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Angelus Chapel. Mass of the Angels, 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 611 Logan Ave., Rev. Robert Carden, celebrant. Interment, Roselawn. Susano J. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - May 12, 2002 - Susano J. Martinez, 90, departed this life May 8, 2002, peacefully at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Mr. Martinez was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Maitland, Colo. Retired from the former CF&I Steel Corporation Open Hearth and Yard Department in 1976. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden and helped to raise several of his grandchildren. He was known for his open door policy and would take in family members who needed help and would help them to get on their feet again. After the loss of his beloved wife, Elydia Trujillo Martinez in 1998, his son, Alonzo, and two grandsons, Alonzo Jr. and Richard Martinez vowed to take care of their father and grandfather until God called him home. The family credits their loving care to the longevity of dad's life. Preceded also in death by his parents, Seledonio and Flora Martinez; children, Joseph R. and Richard Martinez and Mary Jane Martinez; son-in-law, Nick Stabile.
