Larry Arnold Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 22, 1999 - Larry Arnold Martinez went to be with the Lord Dec. 20, 1999, after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by his mother, Lola D. Martinez. Survived by Diane, his dedicated, loving wife of 29 years. Also survived by his children, Denise (John) Romero, Mike (Joanna) Martinez; grandchildren, Erica Romero, Britney Martinez; and father, Jose Martinez. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers, Marie (David) Medina, Roy (Genevieve) Martinez, Jerry (Brenda) Martinez, Sara (David) Santistevan, Jimmy Martinez; uncle, Ovey (Clara) Cordova; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Laura M. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 26, 2003 - Laura M. Martinez, 66, passed away Jan. 24, 2003. Survived by her husband, Pete Martinez of the family home; children, Pete A. Martinez, Mark (Kathy) Martinez, Ava (Mike) Giron and Marcella (Manuel Valdez) Romero; siblings, Joe (Juanita) Ulibarri, John (Cecilia) Ulibarri, Jimmy Sandoval, Marie Conway, Isabel Ulibarri, Genevieve (Victor) Gonzales; grandchildren, Adrianne Romero, Brianne Webb, Sean Webb, Anthony James Martinez and Sierra Martinez. Laura was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Vaughn, N.M. At her request there will be no viewing and the casket will remain closed at the service. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Wednesday, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Lawrence Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - March 1, 1987 - Lawrence Martinez, 63, passed away on Feb. 28, 1987. Mr. Martinez is survived by one sister, Eloisa Gurule of Pueblo; and two brothers, Ed Martinez of Trinidad and Dave Martinez of Monte Vista. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Martinez was a retired sergeant from the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Monday, March 2, 1987, at St. Leander Church, 1402 E. Seventh. Rosary Recitation at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1987, at Imperial Chapel. Leo Martinez - Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home - September 24, 2003 - Leo Martinez, age 81, of Trinidad died September 22, 2003 at home in St. George, Utah. He was born July 19, 1922 in Clayton, New Mexico to Pablo and Amalia Martinez, one of eleven children. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII in Central Europe from December, 1942 to March 1946 and a retired coal miner of 30 years with the C.F.&I. Allen Mine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Beatrice in 1996. Lido Martinez - Denver Rocky Mountain News - February 23, 1999 - Lido Martinez, 82, of Denver died Feb. 15. Services were Feb. 19, with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mr. Martinez was born in Pryor on April 16, 1916. He married Mildred Phillips, 1990. He was a carpenter and a coal miner. Survivors include his wife; daughters Nita Crump of Denver, Cynthia Castillo, Virginia Castro, both of Nevada, Winona Sutton of California; sons Milton Patrick of Arkansas, Melvin Patrick of New York; sisters Jennie Olguin of Denver, Mollie Solano of Pueblo; brothers Abel of Utah, Joe of Nevada; stepson Brent Rich of Denver; stepdaughter Denise Teague of Denver; four grandchildren.

Martinez, Louis
Louis Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 06, 2004 - Louis Martinez, 77, fell asleep in death peacefully on Dec. 3, 2004. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ursula and Feliz; and son, Felix Andrew. Louis was born in Pueblo, Colo. on June 9, 1927. He was affectionately known as "Gramps" and was reputed for his good humor and generosity. Louie was a CF&I rail mill employee for 44 years from where he retired in 1987. He was baptized on April 16, 1960, and was a member of this Highland Park Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he leaves many valued friends. Louie, married 57 years, is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Martinez; and his six children, Berlinda (Frank) Crain, Corpus Christi, Texas, Daniel (Rhonda) Martinez Lancaster, Ohio, Betty (George) Alarid, Pueblo, Colo., Richard Martinez, Colorado Springs, Colo., Verna (Manuel) Espinoza, Milpitas, Calif., Patricia and Jonathon Woehler, Pueblo, Colo.; also missed by his 12 grandchildren and his 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Romero Family Funeral Home, 110 Cleveland, Pueblo, Colo. Directly following services, friends will be received in the Romero Courtesy Hall.

Louis Canelo Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - May 09, 1999 - Louis Canelo Martinez, 83, departed this life May 1, 1999. He was born May 1, 1916, in La Monaca, Guanajuato, Mexico. Preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ramona Martinez- two brothers, Refugio and Tony Martinez. Survived by his sister, Mary Valdez- great-niece, Susie (Anselmo) Sanchez, Jennifer Trujillo, Stephanie and Bonnie Sanchez- great-nephews, Epiminio (Sally)Valdez, Eddie Martinez, Joe (Frances) Valdez, Gilbert (Melda) Martinez, Mike Valdez, Bob Martinez, all of Pueblo, Richard Martinez, California- several nieces, Helen King, Mary White, Anita Ryan, Esther (Leo) Johnson- numerous other relatives and friends. Mr. Martinez served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the victory medal, American and Asiatic Pacific Service Medals. He enjoyed gardening, writing poems and the Saturday nigh dances at Patsy's nightclub. He worked at the Pueblo Drivers License Bureau; he served as a crossing guard, worked at the Pueblo Youth Bureau, was a volunteer at the St. Charles Senior Citizens Center, and was an avid dominoes player. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass, 1:30 p.m. Monday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rev. Robert Carden celebrant. The Martinez family will receive friends at St. Joseph's cafeteria following the Mass.

Louis Martinez Sr. - Pueblo Chieftain - October 06, 1986 - Louis Martinez Sr., 78, died Oct. 4, 1986, in Colorado Springs. Born March 26, 1908, in Ideal, Colo., and had been a Walsen-burg resident all his life. He married Ofilia Tafoya, Dec. 28, 1935, in Walsenburg. He worked most of his life in the coal mines and coal delivery service. Predeceased by wife, Ofilia, August 1984. Survived by children, Louis X. (Virginia) Martinez Jr., Walsenburg; Mrs. Margaret (Joe) Rodriguez, Walsenburg; Mrs. Dolores (Anil) Anjaria, Doylestown, Pa.; Mrs. Alice (Amadito) Garcia, Walsenburg; brothers, Jose F. She is survived by her husband Gilbert Martinez Sr.; and her children, Teresa King of Pueblo, Katherine Peralta of Colorado Springs, and Debbie Martinez of Pueblo. Lucy C. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 25, 2001 - Lucy C. Martinez, 92, of Pueblo, formerly of Walsenburg, passed away Dec. 24, 2001. Born Dec. 27, 1908, in Trujillo Creek, Colo. Preceded in death by her spouse, Charles Martinez Sr.; two sons, Mark and Raymond Martinez; her parents, Jose Inez and Adelida Cordova; also four sisters and two brothers. Survived by sons, John B. (Daisy) Martinez, Pueblo, and Charles (Ida) Martinez Jr., Las Vegas, N.M.; sister, Alice (Paul) Castro, Denver; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of relatives. Lucy was the daughter of the Pioneers in Las Animas County. Mrs. Martinez was born Lucy Coronado in Walsenburg on March 1, 1914. She married Roger Martinez, 1931. She was a homemaker. Survivors include daughters Mary E. Langley, Sister J. Vianney, Lucy A. Tafoya, all of Denver, Geri Hatch of Aurora, Anne Sievers of Illinois; son Roy of Virginia; brother John Coronado of Denver; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Lupe Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 08, 2000 - Lupe Martinez, 92, passed away Jan. 5, 2000. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Toribio Martinez. Survived by children, Marty (Dolores) Martinez of San Antonio, Texas, Bertha (Claudio) Ordaz-Martinez, J. Eddie Martinez, Gilbert A. Martinez, Richard A. (Josephine) Martinez and Emma (Jose) Cruz; special caregivers, Jaye A. Stewart and Josephine Regalado; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Fragelia Archuleta; two sons, Johnny and Jimmy Martinez; former husband, Refugio Martinez. Martinez, Macario
Macario Martinez - Huerfano World - July 12, 1990 - Lifetime Walsenburg resident Macario "Max" Martinez, 65, died in Pueblo July 5, 1990, after a lengthy illness. Born Apr. 14, 1925, in Walsenburg, the son of Abel and Ofelia Martinez, he was disabled at the age of one when he contracted polio and was raised by his aunt, Viola Sandoval. He had worked for several years at the Walsenburg Sheltered Workshop. He was a member of St. Mary Church. Survivors include a brother, Ruben Martinez and three aunts, all of Walsenburg; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in North St. Mary Cemetery. J.M. Antle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Macario "Mac" A. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 13, 1999 - Adrain Comer - Macario "Mac" A. Martinez, entered Heaven's gate on July 11, 1999, after a brief illness. Born Jan. 2, 1927, in Walsenburg, Colo. Preceded in death by his parents, Claudio and Maclovia Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Della M. Martinez- brothers, J. Ralph (Frieda) Martinez and Claudio (Bertha) Martinez- son, Steve (Maryjean) Martinez- daughters, Jeanie Bryant, Linda (Gerald) Martinez, Pueblo, Eileen (Gene) Thomas, Colorado Springs, and Raeann (Tom) Velarde, Las Vegas, Nev.- 19 grandchildren- nine great-grandchildren- and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Mac was a member of St. Leander's Church, veteran of World War II, member of American Legion Post No. 2, Steel City Eagles No. 3367. Retired after 42 years of working in the Blast Furnace at CF&I. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and auto mechanic. His laughter will be sadly missed by all. Visitation at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to time of rosary at 7 p.m. today at Garden Chapel. Manuel Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 21, 2005 - Manuel Martinez, 87, passed away July 19, 2005. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Minnie Martinez; children, Flora (Jesus) Villalpando, Jenny (Jim) Toland, Leroy (Delores) Martinez, Gloria Martinez, Albert Martinez, Rose Martinez; grandchildren, Tony (Shannon), Sarah Villalpando, Manuel, Sonia, Cristina Veronica, Alicia, and Andrew Martinez; great-grandchildren, Rylie and Ashtyn Villalpando; sister, Clara Martinez; sisters-in-law, Tomasita Martinez, Celia Gentry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Manuel Martinez - Colorado Springs Free Press - May 6, 1968 - Pueblo Boy, 16, Drowning Victim - Pueblo, Colo. - A Pueblo youth was swept to his death in the Arkansas River near here Sunday when he waded into the water to retrieve the fishing pole he accidentally dropped while fishing along the river's banks. The victim was Manuel Martinez, 16, son of Mrs. Caroline Delion of Pueblo. Fred Johnson, 39, of Pueblo, was fishing nearby when he heard the youth's cries for help. He pulled Martinez from the river and applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but was unable to revive the boy.

Margarito Alfonso Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 16, 2003 - Margarito Alfonso Martinez, 58, Of Pueblo went home to be with the Lord Jan. 13, 2003. Born March 26, 1944, in Trujillo, N.M. Preceded in death by his brother, David Martinez, nephew, Larry Martinez, niece Teanna Garcia. Survived by former spouse Helen Rushing, Pueblo. She was 72 years of age. Maria is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joseph David Martinez of Walsenburg; sons Ruben J. and Thomas Martinez and their families of Walsenburg; daughters Rachel Logan and family of Reed Springs, Mo., and Cindy Welborn and family of Raton, N.M.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and; and two sisters. Mrs. Martinez was a member of St. Mary Church. Maria Isabel Martinez - World Independent – May 3, 1957 - Aged Woman, Pioneer Here, Passes Away - Mrs. Maria Isabel Martinez, one of Huerfano County's oldest and earliest settlers, and mother of Juan Martinez a well-known Walsenburg business man, passed away at Redwing Thursday. Mrs. Martinez was born at Costilla, Colo., Nov. 18, 1865, and came here as a child. She married Jose C. Martinez, and together they engaged in farming and ranching. She was a member of the Altar Society of St. Mary church here. The pioneer woman is survived by four sons, Juan, Moses, and Gasper of Walsenburg, and Eloy of Trinidad; two daughters, Mrs. Pete Gomez of Walsenburg, and Mrs. Julia Cisneros of Montrose; one sister, Mrs. Maria Espinoza of Pueblo; 33 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. There will be a rosary at 7:30 Sunday evening in Furphy Chapel and another one at 7:15 Monday evening in St. Mary Church. Funeral will leave Furphy Chapel at 8:30 Tuesday morning and will proceed to St. Mary church where Requiem High Mass will be sung at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Mary cemetery under direction of Furphy Mortuary.

Max J. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 15, 2004 - Max J. Martinez, 76, passed away July 14, 2004, in Canon City. He was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Portland, Colo., a son of the late Benito and Isabelle Martinez. Max attended grade school in Portland and was a graduate of Florence High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. In 1961, Max became a police officer for the city of Florence. Max married Mary Esther Villagrana on Aug. 26, 1961, in Canon City. He was the chief of police in Florence from 1968 until 1975. Max was later employed with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, where he retired in 1996. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Elks Club of Florence and the VFW. His favorite pastimes included fishing, swimming, basketball, football, baseball and horseshoes. Max is survived by his wife, Esther; his children, Jerry (Teresa) Martinez of Arizona City, Ariz., Rick Villagrana of Lakewood, Colo., Teresa (Ed) Gurule of Littleton, Colo., and Linda Martinez of Surprise, Ariz.; four grandchildren, April, David, Ronald and Christina Martinez; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Matthew Martinez; sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Mary and Martha; and a brother-in-law, Rosendo Trujillo. Miguel Antonio Martinez - Walsenburg World - October 13, 1910 - Fall Proves Fatal - Miguel Antonio Martinez met with an accident on Monday Oct. 3, 1910, which caused his death. He was in a wagon coming down Bear creek canon. The wagon struck a rut and he was thrown out falling under the wheels. Three ribs were broken and he also received some internal injuries. Mr. Martinez was born in Abiquiu, New Mexico, about seventy eight years ago. His wife died some years ago, but four daughters and one son are left to mourn. The funeral services were attended by a large number of relatives and friends.

Nabor H. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - June 02, 2004 - Nabor H. Martinez, born in Cerro, N.M. on July 19, 1923 passed away May 30, 2004. He is preceded in death by Ruben and Elvira Martinez. Husband of Mary O. Martinez. He will be sadly missed by his daughters Evelyn Coronel (Sam), Janet Rodriguez (Mark), and Martha June Naro; son Reuben E. Martinez (Brenda). Eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Sisters Carmen Chavez and Ermelinda Taylor from Ft. Collins, Colo. and many nieces and nephews. Nabor J. Martinez - Huerfano World - April 23, 1998 - Nabor J. Martinez, 75, of Walsenburg, died April 14, 1998. Born October 3, 1922 in Walsenburg to Amarante and Lucy Martinez, he was a retired coal miner. Survivors include a daughter, Rita Chavez, Pueblo; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral mass was from St. Mary Church. Burial was in South St. Mary Cemetery.

Nabor Santiago Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - May 05, 2005 - Nabor Santiago Martinez, 40, born Aug. 7, 1964, passed away after a lengthy illness on May 3, 2005. Preceded in death by his mother, Eutimia Martinez Meza; father, Ignacio Raymor Martinez; and niece, Jacklyn Shantel Martinez. Survived by his sisters, Rosemary (Tony) Lucero, Isabelle Flores and Rachel Young; brothers, Joseph (Monica) Martinez and Ruben (Helen) Martinez; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Nabor was an avid Raiders fan. He enjoyed life, fishing, drinking beers with his buddies and playing horseshoes. Special thanks to everyone at Sangre de Cristo Hospice who helped to make Nabor's final days comfortable and for all of their support. Viewing, 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Romero Chapel. Nancy Martinez - Las Vegas Review-Journal - February 20, 2004 - Mary Nancy Martinez, 87, of Las Vegas, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004. She was born May 25, 1916 in Weston, Colo. and was a resident of Las Vegas since 1980. Mary was a homemaker and an avid Bingo player. Mary is survived by her son, Joseph Martinez of Laughlin; her daughter, Diana Gonzales and her husband, Al, of Las Vegas; her sister, Stella Gonzales of Trinidad, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20. Service will be held at noon, Saturday, Feb. 21, both at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial immediately following service at Palm Memorial Park-Las Vegas. Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary-Downtown.

Born Oct. 26, 1923, in Aguilar, he was a retired construction worker and a World War II veteran. Survived by four daughters, Frances Mares, Delores (Margarito) Castillo, Betty (Tito) Alameda, all of Pueblo, Dorothy (Robert) Castillo, Marquez, Puerto Rico; one son, Rudy Martinez, Pueblo; two sisters, Rose (John) Mestas, Trinidad, and Ernestine (Morris) Duran, Aurora; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. Rosary recitation, 8:30 p.m. Monday. Mass of the Resurrection, 10 a.m. Tuesday. Both services, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Sullivan, S. J. celebrant. Martinez, Nestora Gomez
Nestora Martinez - Huerfano World - July 19, 1990 - Nestora Martinez [Nestora Gomez] Nestora Martinez, 82, of Gardner, died Saturday, July 14, 1990, in Huerfano County Health Center in Walsenburg. Born Jan. 20, 1908, in Badito, she was reared on the lower Huerfano near Badito where her parents farmed. On June 23, 1929, she married Conrad Martinez in St. Mary Church in Walsenburg. Mr. Martinez worked on section railroad, then farming in the Gardner area. During WWII, she worked in the shipyard as a painter. In 1945, they returned to the farm. They also lived with Clovis and Isabel Salazar until 1977, and then this past September, 1989 they lived with them again. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her husband Conrad, Gardner; two daughters, Bertha Ragsdale, Walsenburg, and Caroline Sanchez, Walnut Creek, CA; a sister, Isabel Salazar, Gardner; five brothers, Eugene Gomez, Oakland, CA, Pete Gomez and Carl Gomez, Pueblo, Max Gomez, Denver, and Theodore Gomez, Redwing, 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in Huerfano Masonic Cemetery. Boies Almont was in charge of arrangements.

No'e Martinez - Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph - November 28, 1991 - No'e Martinez, 70, of Colorado Springs died Nov. 26, 1991. He worked in civil service at the Air Force Academy and in Leavenworth, Kan. He also had worked in food service. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Ave. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. James Thorton officiating. Private inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Blunt is handling arrangements. Mr. Martinez was born July 10, 1921, in Walsenburg to John and Manuelita (Vigil) Martinez. He was in the Army from 1942 to 1943. Mr. Martinez was married Nov. 24, 1975, in Topeka, Kan., to Nancy Louise McCarty, who survives. He also is survived by four sons, Leonard of Alamosa, No'e Jr. of Colorado Springs, and Anthony and Gilbert, both of Salem, Ore.; seven daughters, Rita Lathon of Greenville, S.C., Patricia Stuckly of Columbus, Ohio, Shirley Gonzales of Colorado Springs, Sandra Maestas and Nancy Blea, both of Denver, Lucy Maestas of Lafayette and D'Esta of Salem; a brother, Gilbert J. of Colorado Springs; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is survived by sons, Lawrence, Tony, Joe and Max; sisters, Carmen Martinez, Cleo Hoke, Dora Guerrero, Lilly Valdez and Teresa Vargaz. He is survived also by eight grandchildren, numerous nephews, and nieces. Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Friday at St. Cajetan Church, 299 Raleigh, Denver. Otilia Martinez - Huerfano World - May 28, 1998 - Otilia (Tille) Martinez, 90, of Walsenburg, died May 23, 1998 in Walsenburg Care Center where she had been a resident since 1996. Born Apr. 15, 1908 in Walsenburg to Miguel and Julianita Lopez Quintana, she lived all of her life in Huerfano County, marrying Pete Martinez on Aug. 1, 1937. Mrs. Martinez and her husband were very well known for leading countless wedding marches. They were also named Grand Marshals for the Plaza de los Leones parade. Survivors include her husband, Pete, of Walsenburg; a daughter, Trinie Trujillo, Walsenburg, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (today) from St. Mary Church. Burial will be in North St. Mary Cemetery.
