Services will be at 9 a.m. today at Crown Hill Mortuary Chapel, 7777 W. 29th Ave. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. She was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Walsenburg. She attended college. Her husband, Rutilio Martinez, is deceased. She was employed by the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Postal Service as a secretary. She is survived by two sons, Celestino L. Noriega, Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Paul A. Noriega, Tucson; a sister, Alice Sherpey, Beverly Hills, Fla.; two brothers, Toby and Mike Rampa, Denver; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Padilla, Daniel Stephen Martinez, Catherine Renee Aguero; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Miguel Martinez, and Daniel's close friend and companion of 11 years, Leah Nueland; and several nieces and nephews. Daniel F. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - August 14, 2002 - Daniel F. Martinez, 75, died at home on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, after a yearlong battle with cancer. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Fort Collins. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Fort Collins. Interment with military honors by American Legion George Beach Post No. 4, American Legion Alonzo Martinez Post No. 187, VFW, DAV and the Marine Corps League at Grandview Cemetery. Father Douglas Hunt, C.R., will officiate the services. Dan was born in Greeley, Colo., on May 3, 1927. He was the oldest surviving son of Lee Martinez (for whom Lee Martinez Park in Fort Collins was named) and Eva Martinez. His parents and older brother, Alonzo (killed in WWII), and younger brother, Joseph, preceded him in death. He is survived by brothers, Anthony, Philip, Bob Martinez; and sisters, Santana Moore, Matilda Maxwell, Cecilia Mondragon and Gloria Maxwell. Dan attended Holy Family Catholic School, Fort Collins High School and in 1945 took a two-year paid vacation in the 38th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He received a B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado, a masters from the University of Colorado. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the University de Valladolio, Spain, attended the University of Paris in France, attended Central Washington State and Michigan State. He has been a member of the board of the St. Mary-Corwin hospital in Pueblo (and past chairman), the Spanish Language Achievement Test Committee of the College Entrance Board, member and past president of Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers (from which he also received a leadership award); also a member of American Association of Teachers of French of Spanish and of Portuguese. He was also on the board of Pueblo McClelland Public Library. Dan taught school in Manzanola, Colo., Rocky Ford, Colo., and ended his teaching career in Pueblo, Colo. He was a member of District 60 administration in Pueblo. He retired in 1983. Dan was a member of Holy Family Parish and a member of the American Legion Alonzo Martinez Legion Post 187 for 47 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alonzo Martinez Scholarship Fund or Hospice of Larimer County, c/o Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
Martinez, Daniel L. Sr.
Daniel L. Martinez Sr. - Huerfano World - November 2, 1989 - Dan Martinez of Walsenburg, 51, died Oct. 30, 1989, after suffering a heart attack. Born in Walsenburg Aug. 21, 1938, the son of Alex and Pina Martinez, he attended Walsenburg High School and shortly after entered the army in 1956, serving in Korea until 1958. He remained in the Army Reserves until 1962. After returning to Walsenburg, he attended Trinidad State Junior College and worked as an independent carpenter for various companies in Walsenburg, mostly in urban renewal projects. He started work in the Huerfano County courthouse in the maintenance department in 1972 and was working there at the time of his death. He married the former Eileen Tenorio July 21, 1956, in Raton, NM. He was a member of St. Mary Church and an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Eileen, Walsenburg; his mother, Pina Martinez, Walsenburg; his children, Daniel Martinez Jr., Walsenburg, Larrylee Martinez, Pueblo, Sandy ,Garcia, Loveland, Lenny Martinez, Pueblo, Tonnie Armijo, Walsenburg and Donna Martinez, Denver; a sister, Marlene Martinez, Walsenburg; three brothers, Harold, Mellie and Arthur Martinez, Walsenburg and Ralph Martinez, Denver; eight grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (today) from St. Mary Church. Burial with full military honors will be in North St. Mary Cemetery. J.M. Martinez, Dannie Jo'l
Dannie Jo'l Martinez - Signature - September 13, 2001 - 5-year old girl killed on I-25 - Five year-old Dannie Jo'l Martinez of Center was killed Tuesday morning in a tragic one-vehicle accident on I-25 in Huerfano County. Martinez suffered internal injuries and a fatal injury to the head after being ejected from the 1985 Dodge Ram in which she and four others were riding when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a failure of the right rear tire. Seven year-old Jo Dawn Martinez, also ejected from the vehicle, was treated for minor injuries at St. Mary Corwin Hospital before being released. Juan Manuel Delgado, 26, of Monte Vista suffered internal Injuries after being ejected from the right front seat, and Brenda Martinez, 29, was treated for internal injuries and a fractured arm. The driver, 61 year-old Daniel Martinez, the only person in the vehicle restrained with a seat belt, was treated for minor injuries and released. Both children were riding in the back seat and neither was restrained with car seats. The vehicle was not equipped with air bags. Dannie Martinez was transported to Boise-Ortega funeral home in Walsenburg and is being moved today to Romero Funeral Home in Monte Vista.
Darlene Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 15, 2006 - Darlene Martinez, 42, of Pueblo, passed away on Dec. 13, 2006. Preceded in death by father, Fred Martinez. Survived by her beautiful daughter, Alexandrea; mother, Linda (Jorge) Torres; sisters, Sherry (John) Scoleri, Orlinda (J. J.) Martinez and Marie Martinez; brothers, Elvin Laboy and Freddie Martinez; grandmother, Orlinda Vigil; stepmother, Lucille Martinez; along with numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and special friends who were close to her heart. He is survived by his wife, Louise Martinez, Pueblo; son, David (Angel) Martinez, Pueblo; daughters, Arlene (Ted) Martinez, Thornton, Colo., and Renee (Jon) Plunkett, Graham, Wash.; brothers, Ruben Martinez and Jerry Goure; sisters, Esther Morgas, Dixie Walls and Denise Arellano; and grandchildren, Zahryn Martinez and Matthew Plunkett. David was proud to have been a police officer for the city of Pueblo for over 30 years. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He always made people laugh. We will miss him dearly. Della J. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - March 14, 2006 - Della J. Martinez passed away March 13, 2006. Della was born on a very cold, snowy January morning in La Valley of San Francisco, Colo., to the union of Trenidad Segura and Esperanza Espinoza, who preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate her life, her best friend, soul mate and loving husband of 54 years, Paul Lincoln Martinez. Paul and Della were married May 12, 1952, in San Luis, Colo. She also leaves her precious and loving sons, Gary (Duvie) Martinez of Pueblo West and Ronnie (Ronette) Martinez of Highlands Ranch. As well as her loving daughter and best friend, Joyce (Gilbert) Cisneros of Pueblo. Her grandchildren, Judy (Randy) Martinez, Susie (Tony) Gennuso, Larry (Pam) Rogers, Candace Martinez, Matthew Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Mariah Cisneros, Michelle (Martin) Chrisman, Yulanda (Michael) Valerio and Gilbert (Angelic) Cisneros. Also her great-grandchildren, Marcus and Miranda Rogers, Jacob Gennuso and another great-grandchild due in June, Martin, Jr., Isabelle and Jacob Chrisman, Aliyah and Shaelynn Valerio, and Tristan Cisneros. Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gertrude Martinez; his 12 children, Ronnie Martinez of Pueblo, Donna Martinez of Scottsdale, Calif., Julie Martinez of Pueblo, Robert Martinez of Belen, N.M., Louie (Rhonda) Martinez of Corona, Calif., Joann (Richard) Cadena of Fort Lupton, Colo., Jose (Connie) Martinez of Pueblo, Ed (Phoebe) Martinez of Pueblo, Corrine (Tom) Shisler of Pueblo, Don J. Martinez II of Sacramento, Calif., Gloria Martinez of Florence, Ala., and Patricia Romero of Colorado Springs; 38 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a musician most of his life and will be remembered for the Don J. Martinez and his Latin American Combo Band. Don was a warm-hearted person who will always be remembered by his loving family. Survived by his wife, Celia Vega Martinez, of the family home; children, Arthur M. (Sandy) Martinez, San Bernadino, Calif., Donald Lee (Lynda) Martinez, Gallup, N.M., Richard J. Martinez, Denver, Colo.; one brother, Robert Martinez; seven sisters, Lucy, Benny, Florence, Josie, Stella, Bertha, Julia; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donna Martha Martinez - Huerfano World - January 5, 1995 - Donna Martha Martinez, 30, of Walsenburg, died Dec. 29, 1994, at her home after a two-year fight with cancer. Born Nov. 16, 1964, to Dan and Eileen Tenorio Martinez in Walsenburg, she had lived most of life here and attended local schools. Later, she moved to Denver where she lived for about eight years. She had been employed by Huerfano Medical Center for over a year. She loved going to bingo and being with friends. Survivors include her mother, Eileen Martinez, Walsenburg; her fiancé, Rudy Pineda Jr., Walsenburg; a son, Rudy Pineda III, Walsenburg; brothers and sisters, Dan Martinez, Walsenburg; Larry Martinez and Lenny Martinez, Pueblo; Sandra Garcia, Loveland and Tonnie Armijo, Walsenburg; her grandparents, Martha and Andy Tenorio and Pina Martinez, Walsenburg; nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by a son, Anthony Martinez of Kansas; two brothers, John Ortivez and Eddie "Colorado Kid" Ortivez of Walsenburg; best friend and caregiver Virginia Trujillo of Walsenburg; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Damian and Andrea Arellano Ortivez; her husband, Bernadino Martinez; a sister, Josie Ortivez and two brothers, Milton Ortivez and Sais Ortivez. Survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Vic Martinez; children, Dennis (Patti) Martinez, Doris Martinez; grandchildren, Dennis Jr., Victor Joseph; granddaughters, Ebony Lopez, Nicolle; great-grandchildren, Tahni, Victor IV, Emma; brother-in-law, Dave (Frances) Martinez of Oxnard, Calif.; sisters, Mary (Edward) Vigil, Rose (Larry) Higgs, Loretta Martinez, Gloria (Jim) Martinez, Erma Medina, Lorraine Montoya; numerous nieces and nephews; and a life-long friend and shadow, Loyola Sandoval. Duane Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 07, 1999 - Duane Martinez, 54, a retired steelworker, passed away July 3, 1999 , at Parkview Hospital following a brief illness. Born on Jan 14, 1945, in Walsenburg. He worked many years in the rail mill. To his friends and co-workers he was known as "Big D." He married Josephine "Jo" Baca Martinez, Aug. 4, 1962, in Pueblo. She preceded him in death, July 4, 1986. Duane loved trout fishing, playing billiard pool, and darts, attending his grandson's baseball games and watching and supporting "his Denver Broncos." Edmund D. Martinez - Huerfano World - October 11, 1990 - Dave Martinez, 45, Walsenburg, died Oct. 2, 1990. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Huerfano County Medical Center after suffering a heart attack. Born Nov. 25, 1944, in Pueblo, after graduating from high school he entered the Army, serving during the Viet Nam era. Enoch J. Martinez - Huerfano World - May 12, 1994 - Enoch J. Martinez, 84, of Weston, formerly of Walsenburg, died Sunday, May 8, 1994 in the Life Care Center in Pueblo where he had been a patient for three days. Born in Aguilar Aug. 29, 1909, to Pete and Isodora Sanchez Martinez, he was reared there and later worked in the coal mines. He entered the Merchant Marines and served during WW II. After his discharge he lived in California, working for Pacific Telephone Company in the field. When he retired from the firm, he moved to Velarde, NM, and later to Walsenburg where he pastored the Apostolic Church. He was a familiar figure with garden and orchard produce selling from his pickup. He had a short illness, with complications of the heart and lungs. On Apr. 2, he suffered a heart attack and drove himself to the hospital in Trinidad, later transferred to Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. Mr. Martinez was married to the late Josephine Lucero. Survivors include three daughters, Dina Fong, Denver, Laura Martinez, Hayward, CA, and Ruth Colter, San Francisco, CA; a sister, Beatrice, San Francisco; two brothers, Amos Martinez, West Virginia and Abel Martinez, Pueblo; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday (today) from Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Burial will be in Huerfano Masonic Cemetery.

She served as an election judge for El Paso County in 1968. She loved her children and her family. She had lived in Colorado Springs since 1946.
Escolastica Martinez - Huerfano World - September 5, 1991 - Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday from St. Mary Church for Escolastica Martinez, 82, who died in a Salida nursing home Aug. 25, 1991, after a lengthy illness. Born on Pass Creek Mar. 14, 1909, she attended school in Gardner and Walsenburg, graduating from St. Mary School in 1926. She went on to Adams State College in Alamosa gaining her teaching degree in 1931. She taught school for 45 years in Turkey Creek, Farisita, Pass Creek, Chama, Malachite and Gardner, retiring in 1975. While teaching she and her husband operated a ranch on Pass Creek for 30 years. In 1959, they sold the ranch and moved to Walsenburg. Her husband, Faris, died in 1984. She was grand marshal of the Plaza de Los Leones 1989 parade, a member of AARP, St. Mary Church and National Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her son, Arthur Martinez, Castro Valley, CA, four brothers, Ben Salazar, Denver, Telos Salazar, Pueblo, Alfredo Salazar, Pass Creek and Gilbert Salazar, Fort Wayne, IN; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Esther Martinez - Walsenburg World - July 22, 1924 - Drank Carbolic Acid - Mrs. Esther Martinez, of Ideal, Colo., last Friday, July 18th, drank carbolic acid from which she died. Mrs. Martinez was in poor health and it is supposed that she drank the carbolic acid in a fit of despondency. The deceased was 22 years of age and was the wife of Jesus Martinez of Ideal. Mr. Martinez is survived by four children; Gloria Genie; Eugene Martinez Jr.; Loria Martinez and Rio Martinez, all of Pueblo. He is also survived by two sisters, Rose (Ernest) Martinez and Angela (Toney) Montoya; two brothers, Elias (Agapita) Martinez and Joe (Lupe) Martinez, also all of Pueblo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Martinez lived in the Pueblo area all of his life and was a truck driver for Pueblo County. Visitation from noon until time of service today at Imperial Funeral Home. Born Jan. 18, 1934, in Taos, N.M., she was a homemaker who loved to spoil her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, known for her various Mexican food dishes, also her homemade tortillas that would melt in your mouth. She also did embroidery, and was very active in her church until her health problems. A Pueblo resident since 1953, she married Jacobo Martinez Nov. 21, 1951, in Taos, N.M. He precedes her in death; also her parents, Pablo and Josephina (Trujillo) Rivera; a sister, Loyola Mares; a brother, Jose Rivera. Survived by her children, Josie Marrufo, Pueblo, Anita (Ray) Guerrero, California, Henry Martinez, Pueblo, Paul (Ellen) Martinez, Walsenburg, Mike Martinez, Pueblo, Florence (Leroy) Sanchez, Denver, Edward Martinez, Pueblo, and Helen Mendez, Pueblo; two brothers, Alex (Connie) Rivera, Albuquerque, N.M., Orlando (Josie) Rivera, Taos, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special relatives, Juan and Lucilla Trujillo, Taos, N.M., Paul and Della Martinez, Pueblo, and Eloy and Jennie Mares, Colorado Springs. Survived by children, Elias (Gloria) Martinez of San Marino, Calif., Betty (Larry) Maes, Pueblo, Ted Martinez, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Clara (Lynn) Chase, Fort Collins, Colo.; sister, Eduvenia Martinez, Santa Fe, N.M.; brothers, Jose "Tino" Martinez, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Victor Griego, also of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by special granddaughter, Jeannine (Jake) Arellano, Pueblo; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by husband, Elias; daughter, Eloida (Joe) Vigil; and sons, Victor and Ned Martinez. Faye worked as a cook at Colorado State Hospital for 24 years in the Central Kitchen, retiring in 1971. She was also a member of St. Patrick Parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society, Altar and Rosary Society and Reparation Society of St. Patrick's Parish. Faye loved flower and vegetable gardening. Felicita Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 10, 1986 - Felicita Martinez, 96, late of Colorado Springs, and a Pueblo resident from 1959 to 1975, died Dec. 8, 1986. Mrs. Martinez was formerly of Fort Garland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toribio Martinez, in 1968; and a daughter, Rose Rivera, in 1960. She is survived by a son, Manuel (Sara) Martinez; and four daughters, Josefita Lobato, Gravelita (Lupe) DeHerrera, all of Pueblo; Rebecca Martinez of Greeley; Clorinda (Frank) Martinez of Colorado Springs; and a son-in-law, Felix Rivera of Colorado Springs. Also survived by 25 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Martinez was a sister of Ramoncita Grine of California. Felix Martinez - Bayfield Blade - February 8, 1912 - Wealthy Ranchman Disappears - Trinidad - Mystery surrounds the disappearance of Felix Martinez, a ranchman of Gulnare, forty-five miles northwest of here, whose horse has been found. A bloody saddle from which dangled the frayed ends of ropes indicated the man had been murdered, the corpse tied to the saddle and the horse turned loose. Blood stains on the horse's legs indicated that the animal had kicked loose from the burden. Martinez had been missing from his home for ten days and the horse was found by a searching party. He is said to have had trouble recently with his neighbors over livestock. Bayfield Blade - February 15, 1912 - Felix Martinez, the wealthy rancher of Trinidad, who had been missing for some time, was found dead fifteen miles from Aguilar and it is supposed he was murdered. Bayfield Blade - June 6, 1912 - Frank Ferraro and Frank Mario, charged with the murder of Felix Martinez on January 27th, were acquitted at Trinidad.

Filomeno Martinez - Huerfano World - January 23, 1992 - Filomeno Martinez, 95, Gardner, died in Huerfano County Medical Center Jan. 17, 1992 after a lengthy illness. Born July 5, 1896 in Badito, he attended school briefly before leaving to care for his ill parents. One of Huerfano County's oldest surviving veterans; he joined the Army during World War I serving from Aug. 17, 1918 until Dec. 14, 1918. On his return he worked on several area ranches, including the Fred Wagner Ranch for 20 years and in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado. He married the former Miguela G. Barela Apr. 21, 1924, in Gardner. She died in 1982. Mr. Martinez was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Gardner. Survivors include a son, Raymond Martinez, Gardner; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral mass was Monday from Sacred Heart Church. Burial was in Gardner Catholic Cemetery. J.M. Antle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Firdel Martinez - Rocky Mountain News - April 29, 1978 - Mass of Christian Burial for Firdel Martinez of Trinidad will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Trinidad. His body will be cremated. Martinez died Thursday in St. Mary-Corwin Hospital, Pueblo, after a long illness. He was 73. Martinez was born August 27, 1904, in Sopris, where he was educated. He was graduated from Mullins Barber College in Denver in 1919. He married Bertha E. Romero on August 3, 1925 in Denver. Martinez owned and operated the Columbian Barber Shop in Trinidad. He was named Colorado's outstanding barber of 1976 by the Barbers' International Association. Martinez was a member of the Trinidad Izaak Walton League and was serving on the Governor's Council for the Aging. He was a commissioner of the Trinidad Board of Public Utilities and was a longtime member of the United Latin American Citizens. He was past president of the Trinidad barbers' local. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Ken Martinez of Mill Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Irene Murphy of Northglenn and LaVerne Martinez of Trinidad; five brothers, Gilbert Martinez of Denver, Ernest Martinez of Northglenn, Alfred Martinez of Littleton, Sol Martinez of Aurora and Felix Martinez of Ukiah, Calif.; two sisters, Phyllis Garcia of Commerce City and Lillian Wallace of Denver, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends may make memorial contributions to any charity.

Frances lived her entire life raising and caring for her family at her home on Eighth Street in Walsenburg. She loved working with her hands at her many crafts including crochet, jewelry and beading. She was affectionately known as "Mother Goose" to her children and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Frances is survived by children, Bertha (Frank) Vigil, John E. (Susan) Martinez, Robert L. (Alma) Martinez, Steven G. (Debbie) Martinez, Julie (L.D.) Neighbors, and Donald S. (Carollee) Martinez. Also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lupe Martinez; a son, Richard L. Martinez; grandson, Robbie Neighbors; and brothers, Joe Tafoya and Fred Tafoya. Francisco Martinez – Pueblo Indicator – August 22, 1914 – Drinking Bout Ends in Death – Pueblo – A card game and drinking bout, in which 100 Mexicans participated at Boone, culminated in a homicide, the victim of which was Francisco Martinez, 23. Romano Torres, 22, narrowly escaped lynching at the hands of the mob, after he had shot Martinez with a pistol. He is in the Pueblo county jail, charged with murder.

Francisco Antonio Martinez - World Independent – February 5, 1932 - Last Known Civil War Veteran of County Died Today - Francisco Antonio Martinez, aged 99 years, died at his home at Yellowstone today, February 5, 1932. He was a Civil War veteran and is reported to be the last Civil War veteran in the County. He had lived in this County for the past 60 years, coming from New Mexico a few years after having received his honorable discharge from the army. He was receiving $100.00 a month as a pension from the government, the county court records show. He is survived by four sons, John A., Bascilio, Juan B. and Ausencio Martinez, all living in this vicinity. He also leaves surviving three daughters, Mrs. Mike Valdez of this city, Mrs. Rosita Monroe of Yellowstone, and Mrs. N. Archuleta of Alamo. There are living seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 7, with interment in the Yellowstone cemetery under the direction of Furphy Brothers.
Frank "Grandpappy" Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - April 01, 2000 - Frank "Grandpappy" Martinez, born August 12, 1927, in Crowley, Colo., passed away March 30, 2000. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Frances Martinez; four daughters, Lorraine (Ron) Romero, Carmen (Rudy) Calderon, Susie (Larry) Hernandez and Gloria (Jerry) Hernandez; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; mother, Albina Duran of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Angie (David) Gallegos of Los Angeles, Florence (Mike) Madoni of Palos Verdes, Calif., Theresa (Bob) Heraldez of Pasadena, Calif., and Mary Ann (Roberto) Vanegas of Los Angeles. He retired from the CF&I Steel Mill in 1976 as a bricklayer after 32 1/2 years of service. Frank was a well-known businessman throughout the Bessemer community. He was the current owner of Grandpappy's Bar and previous owner of two other bars in the Bessemer area, the Buffalo Inn and Pancho's Lounge. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, going to auctions, gambling in Cripple Creek, and he loved to watch all of his grandchildren as they played sports. Frank Joseph Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 15, 1987 - Frank Joseph Martinez, prominent citizen of this community, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 13, 1987, at Mt. San Rafael Hospital. He was 62. He was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Cokedale to Paul C. and Martha Martinez. Mr. Martinez attended Sopris School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941. He then attended Trinidad State Junior College where he received his associate of arts degree in education and administration; University of Denver, where he received his bachelor's degree; University of Northern Colorado, where he received his master's degree; and was working on his doctorate degree. Mr. Martinez taught elementary school in Starkville, North Garcia, and Cokedale, and he taught and coached in Sopris. He was principal at Primero High School for the following seven years, then was employed by School District 1 in administration as director of curriculum. Mr. Martinez loved sports and was active in all areas, as he officiated for 40 years. He had been employed as the chief probation officer for Huerfano and Las Animas Counties for the past 13 years. Mr. Martinez was a member of FOE 179, Colorado Officers of Probation Association and Trinidad Golf Association. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha, in 1982. Survivors are his father, Paul, home address; sister, Gloria Maldonado, Trinidad; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Martinez, Denver, Ted (Carol) Martinez, David (Helen) Martinez, all of Trinidad; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear associates and friends. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 1987, at the Holy Trinity Church, with Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Father Patrick Walsh. Frank N. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - January 26, 2002 - Frank N. Martinez, 54, of Pueblo, passed away Jan. 24, 2002. Born April 7, 1947, in Walsenburg, Colo. Preceded in death by his mother, Stella; father and mother-in-law, Luis and Celia Montoya; and grandson, Jesus Martinez-Sena. Survived by his wife, Loretta; son, Odel Medina, Pueblo; children, Gabe, Frances and Wayne (Jessi) Martinez, Nevada, Lynn Medina, California; father, Frank Martinez; siblings, Bob (Peggy) Martinez, New Mexico, Louis (Margy) Martinez, Pueblo, Viola (Don) Romero, Pueblo West. Also survived by seven grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, several sisters and brothers-in-law and special friend, Dave Marez. Frank, a graduate of Central High School 1965, received degrees from Cal State Fullerton and University of Iowa. Employed by City of Pueblo, Parks and Recreation. Also former director of Boys Club, and Southern Colorado Invitational Basketball Tournament for past 15 years. Member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, Optimist Club. Frank, an accomplished coach of East High School girls basketball, also coached professional athletes such as Chauncey Billups, Antonio Cesario, Scott Elarton and Pat Gharrity. He enjoyed all sports especially basketball, baseball and golf. He also had a passion for poker and blackjack. He enjoyed coaching his grandchildren in football. Also loved driving his El Camino. Viewing, 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Romero Chapel. Vigil rosary, 7 p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Tuesday. Both services at Shrine of St. Therese. Interment, Roselawn. Family and friends will be received after interment at Moose Lodge, 41 N. Precision Drive, Pueblo West.
Frasie Martinez - Huerfano World - March 30, 2000 - Frasie Martinez died Mar. 21, 2000 in Denver. During his time in Walsenburg, he was a police officer for several years. While in Denver, he worked as a police sergeant at University Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; two daughters, Diana Johnson and Deborah Krause and seven grandchildren. Funeral service was Mar. 27 in the chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Lakewood.
Fred A. Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - August 20, 2002 - Fred A. Martinez, 59, of Pueblo, passed away Aug. 18, 2002, in Colorado Springs. Born March 27, 1943, in Pueblo. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Ruth Martinez; and brothers, Roy, Leonard and Robert Jr. Survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lucille Martinez of the family home; children, Darlene Martinez, Sherry (John) Scoleri, Orlinda Martinez, Maria (Dan) Tafoya and Freddie (Amber) Martinez; brother, Jerry (Tina) Martinez; sisters, Dorothy Crowe and Maryjane Coyne; nine grandchildren, Eric, Angelique, Angelo, Alyssa, Alex, Damian, Matthew, Johnny and Desirae; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred retired in 1996 from CF&I as a steelworker. He enjoyed fishing, camping and working on cars. Also spending time with his family and special friend, Fred Montoya, and with all his grandchildren. Viewing, 1 to 7 p.m. today at Romero Chapel. Prayer service, 7 p.m. today. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Wednesday, both at Romero Chapel, Pastor Roger Trujillo officiating. Interment, Imperial Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received at Romero courtesy hall after interment.
