Abel Martinez - Denver Rocky Mountain News - May 21, 2000 - Abel Martinez, 87, of Arvada died May 15. Services were May 18. Mr. Martinez was born in La Veta on Nov. 22, 1912. He married Rose Duran, 1945. He was a retired machinist for McDonnell Douglas. Survivors include his wife; sons John of Arvada, Leonard and Paul, both of Bailey, Robert of California; daughters Theresa Rehbein, Mary Martin, Leah Israelsky and Frances, all of California; sister Pauline Lopez of Westminster; 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Isidorita Martinez; brothers, Alex Martinez, Enoch Martinez and Ernest Martinez; sisters, Faustina Trujillo, Orpha Lucero, Eunice Reichert and Lydia Lopez; and grandson, Elvie Apodaca. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marina Martinez; children, Jo Ann (Garry) Moore, Judith (Charles) Durbin and Veta (Marty) Quintana; brother, Amos (Ethel) Martinez; sister Beatrice Myers; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Abel D. Martinez - Huerfano World - November 19, 1998 - Walsenburg resident, Abel D. Martinez, 66, died November 10, 1998, at Pueblo Manor Care Center. Born October 3, 1932, in Mogote to Antonio and Reginalda Dominguez Martinez, he was married to Mercy Sandoval. He was a rancher and a member of the Eagles Lodge #1187 and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, livestock shows, and the time he spent with his family. Survivors include his wife, Mercy, of the family home; two daughters, Sandra Martinez, Antonito and Rosalie Robles, Denver; two sons, David, Alamosa and Joe Dan, Antonito; two sisters, Mamie Martinez, Denver and Elva Stormbush, Georgia; two brothers, Dan, Mogote and Tino, Antonito; 13 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral service was held November 14 in Cristo El Rey Assembly of God Church in Antonito. Burial was in Martinez Cemetery in Las Mesitas.
Adeline Martinez - Huerfano World - January 25, 2007 - Adeline Martinez, 97, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2007, in Sparks, NV. Preceded in death by her husband Jose Ramon, brothers, sister, grandson, and son-in-law. Survived by daughters, Della, Lucille, Rose, and Pauline; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; also survived by brother Simon Aguirre, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Adeline enjoyed being with her family, crocheting, word-search books, baking gardening, her chickens, and chewing gum. Grandma Lena will be dearly missed by all those who were touched by her life. Memorial Rosary 2 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2007, at Sacred Heart Church in Gardner.
Aggie Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 30, 1998 - Aggie Martinez, 87, was born March 26, 1911, in Pueblo, and passed away Dec. 28, 1998, in Pueblo. He was loved and respected by five generations of family. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Ramona- children, Shirley Trujillo, Gary Martinez, and Wilma Gilley- nine grandchildren- 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. They will always cherish the memory of Aggie Martinez. A lifelong resident of Pueblo, Aggie retired from CF&I in 1973 and had a passion for the dog races, the Broncos and the Rockies. What he loved most, however, and was absolutely superb at, was his role as husband, father and grandfather. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors between 3 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Thursday, Mount Carmel Church, with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Agustinita Martinez - Huerfano World - October 1, 1992 - Agustinita Martinez, 79, of Redwing, died Sept. 24, 1992, after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 15, 1912, in Chama to George and Filomena Jacques Sanchez, she lived her entire life in the Redwing and Chama area attending the County School through the eighth grade. She married the late Genaro Martinez Apr. 18, 1938. A devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Mrs. Martinez suffered a stroke that affected her speech, shortly after the death of her son Genaro in September, 1989. She suffered another stroke in March which left her paralyzed. She was living with her daughter Pauline Valdez. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her children, Dorothy Ontiveros and Pauline Valdez, Redwing, Orlando Martinez, Gardner and Isidore Martinez, Pueblo; a brother, Salvadore Sanchez, Pueblo; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m., Monday from Our Lady of Guadalupe in Chama. Burial was in Chama Cemetery. Boies Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Alfonso Blasé Martinez - Huerfano World - July 13, 1972 - Alfonso Blasé Martinez, 67, of Walsenburg, died in a Pueblo Hospital July 4, 1972, after an illness of several weeks. Before going to the Pueblo Hospital Mr. Martinez was living at the Trinidad Hone for the Aged because of his health. Mass of Resurrection was offered Saturday at St. Mary Church. Interment was in the North St. Mary Cemetery. Boies Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Martinez was born Feb. 3, 1905, near Rouse. He was reared in the rural area and later worked in the coal mines until his retirement several years ago. He is survived by his third wife, Mrs. Isabel Martinez, Walsenburg, a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Santistevan, Ogden, Utah; a son, Steve David Martinez, Denver; two brothers, Gabe Martinez, Walsenburg, Felix Martinez, Colorado Springs; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Emma, of the family home- daughter, Patti Jo (John) Boyce of Lakeland, Fla.- son, Alfonso Jr. Sonny" (Leslie) Martinez- grandchildren, Roger (Kristal) Boyce, Lakeland, Fla., Garry (Beth) Boyce, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., J. After retiring from the PAD, he was a salesman at Aspen Motors. Red proudly served on the NEPCO Credit Union Board of Directors. He was a member of Pueblo Christian Center. Mrs. Martinez was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Holcom, Kan., to Fedencio and Crucita (Hernandez) Esquivel. Her parents preceded her in death; as well as her husband, Fermin Martinez; also siblings, Ezekeal, Domingo, Nick and Timothy Esquivel, Mary Hernandez and Genevive Armijo. Angie was the Coronation Fiesta Queen for the Annual Independence of Mexico, Sept. 16, 1938. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, James M. Martinez; daughter, Betty J. Cruz; grandsons, Nick Night, Kelly Martinez, Jay M. Cruz; great-grandson, Jay R. Cruz; one brother, Lawrence (Dolores) Esquivel; other relatives and friends, to include daughter-in-law, Dorothy Martinez. Her kind heart, giving nature and bright smile will truly be missed. Angie was born in Wagon Mound, N.M., on Oct. 17, 1914. She was born to Alejandro Maes and Erinea Garcia. She was raised in Trinidad, Colo. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic High School. She married Bernard Elias Martinez on July 5, 1937. Preceded in death by son, Joseph "Ralph" Martinez; husband and parents; as well as siblings, Herman J. Maes, Alphonso Maes, Anthony Maes, Lena Orborn and Frank Maes. Survived by brother, Manuel (Angie) Maes; sister-in-law, Mary Maes; children, Richard (Marylou) Martinez, Antoinette (Gary) Avery and Ronald D. Martinez; grandchildren, Jeff (Vicky) Martinez, Jennifer (Darren) Royal, and Adrea Avery (Chris Barela); great-grandchildren, Lily and Pierce Martinez, Alexandra Royal and Christopher Barela; step-grandchildren, Mark and Carter Chalsant. Mrs. Martinez was a member of Holy Family Parish. She also had been an active member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Eagles. She retired from J.C. Penney Co. Inc., in 1977. Annie Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - October 13, 2003 - Annie Martinez, born March 19, 1917, in Los Sauses, Colo., died Oct. 11, 2003. Preceded in death by her husband, Edmundo Martinez; and her son, Orlando Martinez. Survived by children, Emma (Jim) Moore, Pueblo, Priscilla Martinez-Hudak, Highlands Ranch, Orlando (Karon) Martinez, Atlanta, Ga., Ulfredo (Millie) Martinez, Pueblo, and Ed (Jan) Martinez, Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of other family and friends whom she considered family. Annie was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Therese Church in Vineland for nearly 60 years. Anthony Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - February 28, 2004 - Anthony Martinez, recently tragedy struck the city of Pueblo when Anthony passed away. Tony, as he was affectionately known, was originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He came to Pueblo in the early part of the 70's. He lived in Pueblo most of the last 33 years, minus a few years in the 80's. Having made his fortunes in Real Estate, Tony was thought highly of. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan B. Martinez and mother, Ernestine Martinez; his two sons, Anthony Michael Martinez III in 1979 and William Joseph Martinez in 1986. Tony is survived in life by his son, Daniel John (D.J.) Martinez of Albuquerque. Also he has two brothers, Ted and J.V. of Alb., and his brother Joe, of Chula Vista, Calif. Tony has one sister, Susan, of Alb. Tony we remember you fondly and loved you. He was 28. Born Apr. 11, 1965 in Walsenburg to Antonio "Tony" and Ruth Soto Martinez, he had lived all of his life in the community, attending local schools. At the time of his death, he was also a member of the Walsenburg Volunteer Fire Department, an ambulance driver with Huerfano County and a part time driver for Boies Almont Chapel. Divorced, he is survived by four children, Allen Wayne, Anthony Brian Jr., Tracy Darlene and Terry Conception, Walsenburg; his mother, Ruth, Walsenburg; seven sisters, Ramona Martinez, Pueblo, Vanessa Martinez and Jolene Manzanares, Walsenburg, Marlene Cully and Teresa Sabet, Pennsylvania, Charlene Sanchez, San Jose, CA, and Lori Tovar, Texas; a brother, Gary Manzanares, Denver; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was a very strong and brave woman who left us to be with the Lord on Sept. 30, 1997, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by father-in-law, Ricardo Martinez. Caroline Martinez - Huerfano World - May 14, 1992 - Caroline Martinez, 71, of Walsenburg, died Monday, May 11, 1992 in Walsenburg Care Center where she has been in residence for several months. She had been in declining health for several years. Born in Berwind, a mine camp near Trinidad, Sept. 20, 1920, as a young child she came with her family to Tioga mine camp, northwest of Walsenburg and there attended country school. As a young woman she worked for the WPA and later at the Rambler Restaurant until her health forced her retirement. Mrs. Martinez was first married to Arthur Vallejo Sr. in 1941. He died in 1963. In 1966, she married Juan Andres Martinez a rancher. Mr. Martinez died one year ago on May 11, 1991. A member of St. Mary Church, Mrs. Martinez is survived by three children, Robert Vallejo, Walsenburg, Rita Lanier, Pueblo and Arthur Vallego Jr., San Leandro, CA; two brothers, Alex Maldonado, Walsenburg and Ernest Maldonado, Pueblo; three sisters, Genevieve Sisneros, Pueblo, Dorothy Candelario, Brighton and Lupe Maldonado, Concord, CA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Elvis. Cecil was a decorated World War II veteran. Celestina Martinez - Huerfano World - June 17, 1993 - Celestina Martinez, 92, of Walsenburg, died Saturday, June 12, 1993 in Walsenburg Care Center where she had been a resident for three weeks. She had been living with a daughter in Denver the past two and half years. Born Apr. 6, 1901 at Cucharas to Theodore and Juanita Martinez Espinoza, she was one of eight children reared in the Walsenburg area. She married Jose J. Martinez June 16, 1922 and they raised eight children. Mr. Martinez was a coal miner and Mrs. Martinez devoted herself to her family. She was a member of St. Mary Church and belonged to Latino Americano Benefico and Feminil Club. Survivors include her children, Patricia Sandoval and Roseann Vigil, Walsenburg, Lena Martinez and Ruby Casados, Denver, Juanita Lucero, Pico Rivera, CA, Fred Martinez, La Mirada, CA, David Martinez, Downey, CA, and Alex Martinez, Alexandria, VA; a brother, Julian Espinoza, Denver; 29 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including Elvira Cordova who was reared with Mrs. Martinez. Funeral mass was Wednesday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in North St. Mary Cemetery.

Charles Martinez Sr. - Pueblo Chieftain - September 19, 1999 - Charles Martinez Sr., 94, of Walsenburg, passed away Sept. 18, 1999. Born March 5, 1905, in Walsenburg. Preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Placida Martinez; brothers, Salvador and Salomon Martinez; sisters, Ramona Vallejos, Julia Ornelas, Lucia Guzman, Cepriana Gonzales; and sons, Mark and Raymond Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Lucy; sons, John B. (Daisy) Martinez of Pueblo, Charles (Ida) Martinez Jr. of Las Vegas, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren. Charles was a miner in the coal mines for 52 years. He and Lucy had such a special and blessed marriage. Viewing, 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Romero Chapel in Walsenburg. Rosary, 7 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Church. Mass, 11 a.m. Tuesday, also at St. Mary, Rev. Richard Wehrmeyer officiating. Interment will be in North St. Mary Cemetery. Christine Autobee Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - June 06, 2003 - Christine Autobee Martinez, 76, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away June 2, 2003, at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center. A lifetime Pueblo County resident, Christine was born April 8, 1927, in Vineland. She was a homemaker and a descendent of the pioneer, Charles Autobee who came by covered wagon to settle in the Avondale area in the 1800s. She married Edward Martinez on April 12, 1947, at Sacred Heart Church, Avondale. He preceded her in death, June 26, 1996. Also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Martina (Sanchez) Autobee Sr.; son, Derk "Worm" Martinez; two sisters, Rose Autobee Gallegos and Cora Autobee Armijo; a brother, Charles G. Autobee; father-and mother-in-law, Jose and Genovera (Lucero) Martinez. Christine is survived by her children, Wanda (Manuel) Vargas, Joseph (Berna) Martinez, Ronald (Barbara) Martinez, Barbara (Eddie) Ortiz, Charles (Christine) Martinez, LuAnn Ontiveros, Denise (John Garduno) Contreras; grandchildren, Nathan, Mike Trujillo, Erica Vargas, Anita Jo, Amber Martinez, Jeanine, Ronnie Jr., Justin Martinez, Sherrie, LCPL Kimberly and Edward Ortiz Jr., Charlie, Joey, Stephanie Martinez, Melissa, Derek Martinez Jr., Samantha Martinez, Johanna Aragon, Dannette, Christina "Dolly" Contreras; also 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Vivian (Paul) Pearce, Viola (Joe) Barreras, Ruth (Alex) Lamas, Evangelia Mitchell; special niece, Lil Montez; special nephew, Donald Armijo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and many friends. Christine was an original member of McHarg Park Committee of Avondale; she also ran the concession stand. She played softball for the former Walters Brewery Team for several years. She was an active member of the Autobee Club. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden at her Avondale home and many came to get grandma's chili and beans. She also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Visitation, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Angelus Chapel. Both services, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Avondale. Rosary vigil, 7 p.m. Sunday and funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Monday, Rev. Paul Montez OSB, her nephew, celebrant. Interment beside her beloved husband, St. Vrain Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Hall following the service.

Clorinda Selsa Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - July 13, 2003 - Clorinda Selsa Martinez, 59. Born Sept. 29, 1943, in Wagon Mound, N.M., passed away July 9, 2003, at Parkview Medical Center. Preceded in death by her parents, Juan Antonio and Amelia (Hurtado) Sanchez; in-laws, Alfonso Martinez and Brenda Codina. Survived by her children, Annie Martinez and Johnny Martinez; grandchildren, Ron (Andrea) Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Johnette Martinez, Joel Martinez, E'lisa Propst; great-grandchild, Rylee Martinez; siblings, Lore (John) Alcon, Johnny (Linda) Sanchez, Robert (Henrietta) Sanchez; special companion, George Solano; former husband, Amadeo R. Martinez; other relatives and friends. "Sally," as she was known to family and friends, was very active in her church and the food program for the needy. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and watching her favorite TV program, "Everybody Loves Raymond." She also loved Mexican music and always had the radio on. Rosary vigil, 7 p.m. Monday and funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Leonard Racki as celebrant; both services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Avondale. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. Conrad Martinez - Huerfano World - December 23, 1993 - Conrad Martinez, 84, of Gardner, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1993, in Danville, CA, where he was visiting. He had suffered from pulmonary disease. Born May 28, 1909 in Gardner, he was a farmer all his life, retiring in the 1980s. He married Nestora Gomez in 1932 and they formed a farming partnership with Clovis and Isabel Salazar in 1935 which continued until 1977. He worked at the Moore Shipyard in Oakland, CA, from 1943 to 1945, during World War II. In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez and Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Salazar received the Top Hand Award, a state contest for the range and live-stock championship, presented by CF&L Radio Station KOA and Western Farm Life Magazine. They were named outstanding Huerfano County in 1970. Mr. Martinez was a County Commissioner in 1960, an active member of the Water Conservative District, Agricultural Soil Conservation Service and Knights of Columbus for many years. He is survived by two daughters, Bertha Ragsdale, Walsenburg, and Caroline Sanchez, Danville, CA; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Angela Vigil, Pueblo; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Funeral mass from St. Mary Church is at 10 a.m. Thursday (today). Burial is in Huerfano Masonic Cemetery. Boies Almont is in charge of arrangements.

Cornelio J. Martinez - Huerfano World - June 6, 1991 - Cornelio J. Martinez, 89, of Walsenburg, died Saturday, June 1, 1991, at his home following a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 16, 1901, in San Luis, he moved to Huerfano County in 1923 and began working for the county maintaining the fairgrounds. He was a member of the Latino Club of Walsenburg and St. Mary Church. Survivors include his wife, Jennie E. Martinez, Walsenburg; two daughters, Sophie Montez and Cecelia Vigil, both of California; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday from St. Mary Church. Burial was in North St. Mary Cemetery. Boies Almont was in charge of arrangements.
Criselda Martinez - Pueblo Chieftain - December 05, 2001 - Criselda Martinez, 94, of Pueblo, formerly of Los Sauses, passed away Dec. 4, 2001. Born Feb. 15, 1907, in Los Sauses, Colo. Survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Gilbert) Archuleta; grandchildren, Michael, Jerry, David, Kathi and Nancy; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Criselda loved gardening, cooking and quilt making. Viewing, 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Vigil rosary, 7 p.m. Thursday, both at Romero Chapel in Pueblo.
