Garfield G. Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - September 01, 2004 - Garfield G. Garcia, 74, of Pueblo, passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Garcia; 10 children, many grandchildren, he leaves behind five brothers, and one sister, along with too many friends to mention. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the CF&I Steel Mill after 43 years. Dad was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors, and his beloved Rocky Mountains. Memorial service, 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Steve Wilson's family farm, 35640 Hwy 96 East, for directions call 778-3007, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Gay Marie Garcia - Huerfano World - January 31, 2002 - Suspicious Death - The death of a 31-year-old Walsenburg woman is being investigated as a suspicious death by the Walsenburg Police and the District Attorney's Office. Assistant DA Cathy Mullens said the cause of death of Gay Garcia, who was seven months pregnant, was to be determined by an autopsy. Authorities suspect drugs were involved. The woman was found about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at a home at 57 Stacy Drive in Walsenburg. She had no vital signs and later was pronounced dead at Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center. Mullens said the investigation is continuing and possible criminal charges, regarding drugs may be filed. Huerfano World - February 7, 2002 - Gay Marie Garcia, 32, and unborn baby, Jailee Law Santistevan, died Jan. 29, 2002. Miss Garcia was born on Aug. 10, 1969 in Walsenburg to Jose Silvano (Theresa Martinez) Garcia and Theresa L. Ruiz Garcia. Miss Garcia, a member of St. Mary Church, is survived by her parents; two children, Trae Roberts, with his father, Keith Roberts, Alamosa, and Jude Logan Santistevan, with his father, James Lee Santistevan, Walsenburg; sisters, Mariaelena "Bia" (Stevan) Duran, Colorado Springs, Misty (Chris) Cruz and Alicianna Garcia, Walsenburg; grandparents, Elvira Garcia and Clyde Ruiz, Walsenburg; two nieces, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Huerfano World – February 14, 2002 – Death Investigation – The District Attorney's Office is continue to investigate the Jan. 29 deaths of Gay Garcia, 31, and her unborn baby. According to Assistant DA Cathy Mullens, her office is awaiting information from the Colorado Bureau of investigation and toxicology tests. County Coroner Della Duran said an autopsy performed by Dr. David Bowerman, a forensic pathologist and El Paso County Coroner, showed the cause of Garcia's death to be a ruptured uterus, causing hemorrhaging. Bowerman said the hemorrhaging was drug-induced.

George Jose Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - November 5, 1986 - George Jose Garcia of Denver, formerly of Pueblo, died Oct. 30, 1986. Brother of David Garcia and Erlinda Chavez, both of Denver; James Trujillo, Washington; Pauline Toribio, Pueblo; and Genevive Valderrama and Irene Ramos, both of California. Services were held earlier in Denver.

Garcia, Gilbert
Gilbert Garcia - Huerfano World - April 8, 1993 - Gilbert Garcia, 68, of Walsenburg, died Friday, Apr. 2, 1993 at his home. Born Nov. 16, 1924 in Ault, when he was a young man his family moved to Huerfano County, living in the Farisita area. He joined the Army and served in World War II. When he returned home, he married the former Alice Pacheco, worked as a route salesman for Pisarczyk's Wholesale Foods and later as a mechanic for Santi Motors. He retired in 1980. Survivors include 10 children, Judy Navarro, Kathy Sanchez, Rose Aguirre and Gina Garcia, Colorado Springs, Barney Garcia, Gilbert Garcia, Stella Sanchez and Doretta Garcia, Walsenburg, Rocky Garcia, Austin, TX, and Jesse Garcia, Norfolk, VA; brothers and sisters, Annie Romero, Viola Olivas and Connie Jacquez, Denver, Nora Quintana and Thomas Garcia, Colorado Springs, Bennie Garcia, Fort Collins and Alfred Garcia Jr., Walsenburg; 15 grandchildren, aunts, nieces and nephews. Cremation. Memorial service Friday at 10 a.m. Vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday, both from the mortuary. Burial will be in North St. Mary Cemetery.

Gilbert Eliu Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - March 02, 2001 - Age 83, passed away Feb. 28, 2001. He was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Costilla, N.M. He is survived by one daughter, Charlene (Ed) Terrones-Simms of Pueblo; three grandchildren, Lisa of Denver, Stephen of Dallas, Texas, and Kristopher of Fort Collins; sisters, Elvira Cortez, Oetelia Martinez; and brother, Gilberto Arellano, all of Costilla; special nephew and niece, Vince and Viola Arellano of Pueblo; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends also survive. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irma Manchego; parents, Agapito Garcia and Reyesitas Galvez; natural parents, Marinita Casias and Abel Arellano; brothers, Armando and Tonito Arellano; sisters, Simoseya Martinez, Amalia Santistevan and Clorinda Maes. Most of his life he lived in the San Luis Valley retiring in Pueblo in 1984. Gilbert graduated from Adams State Teachers College in 1943 with a degree in secondary education. He received his Masters of Education Degree from Adams State College in 1959 and later received a degree in guidance and counseling. Gilbert was a high school business teacher, guidance counselor and principal. He was also a superintendent for 20 years at Questa, N.M., San Luis, Colo., and Arriba, Colo. Throughout his years in education he was an innovator; as an administrator he helped to enhance the quality of education through successful grant writing, and opened up opportunities for his students and teaching staff. A memorial service will be held at Imperial Funeral Home Chapel on Friday at 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Garcia, Colo., on Saturday, 2:30 p.m., followed by a gathering across at La Plaza in Costilla, N.M.

Guillermo Garcia - Huerfano World - April 27, 1989 - Gardner native, Guillermo Garcia died Apr. 19, 1989, in Los Angeles, CA. He was 98. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria, who died last year at the age of 93 and his sister, Teresa Garcia, who died Jan. 29, 1989, at age 93. Survivors include a daughter, and two sons from the Los Angeles area, nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, six sisters, Sr. Valentina of Kentucky, Sr. Pedra of Atchison, KS, Sr. DeChantal of Canon City, Mary Casias and Mary King, Walsenburg and Victoria Martinez of Scapoose, OR; one brother, Pete Garcia, Pueblo, many nieces and nephews. Funeral service and burial were in Los Angeles.

Henry R. Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - November 04, 2001 - Henry R. Garcia, 74, of Pueblo. Went home to be with the Lord Nov. 2, 2001. Born March 19, 1927, in San Luis, Colo. Preceded in death by his spouse, Leontina J. Garcia; his parents, Jesus and Sofia Garcia; also one brother, Porfirio Garcia. Survived by children, Ronnie (Linda) Garcia, Roy, Utah, Diane Garcia, Lafayette, Colo., and Sharon (Calvin) Henstra, Roy, Utah, Tracy (Scott) Elkins, Lafayette, Colo.; grandchildren, Rhonda Garcia, Austin and Brandon Henstra; great-grandsons, Jalon Conley and Avery Elkins; brothers, Rudy (Gloria) Garcia, Fontana, Calif., and Jesse (Martha) Garcia, Laramie, Wyo.; sister, Marcella (Armando) Jaquez, Pueblo; special friend, Grace Smith. Henry enjoyed pool, golfing, traveling, gambling and the time he spent with family. He was an active member of VFW and Moose Lodge. He also served in World War II. Worked for Civil Service at the Pueblo Army Depot as a supervisor. Henry retired from Ogden Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, as a machine specialist technician in 1985. Henry Roger Garcia Sr. - Pueblo Chieftain - September 17, 2000 - Henry Roger Garcia Sr., 57, of Pueblo passed away Sept. 15, 2000. Born July 23, 1943, in Taos, N.M. Preceded in death by his son, Larry Garcia. Survived by sons, Henry Garcia Jr., Pueblo, and Gary Garcia, Pueblo; granddaughters, Daniell Garcia and Amber Garcia, both of Pueblo; parents, Frank and Josefa Garcia, Pueblo; brothers, Gilberto (Virginia) Garcia, Orlando (Lois) Garcia, Steve (Mary Lou) Garcia, Eloy (Tina) Garcia and Edward Garcia, all of Pueblo; sisters, Marcella Lucero and Lillian Cordova, both of Pueblo; former spouse, Charlotte Rodriguez, Pueblo. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Hermelina L. Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - March 11, 2006 - Hermelina L. Garcia, 79, of Pueblo, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Garcia; parents, Lorenzo and Matina Lucero; son, Anthony Fred Garcia; daughter, Violet Garcia; and grandson, Mikey Romero. Survived by her sons, Tony (Nancy) Garcia, Geno (Jerri) Garcia and Daron Shelp; daughters, Virginia (Benito) Vigil and June (John) Abeyta; special grandchildren who helped care for her, Brandi and Anthony Montiel; sisters, Lorenza (Phillip) Moreno, Aurelia Morgan, Gregoria (Leo) Romero, Magdelina (Joe) Herrera and Elsie (David) Herrera; close cousin and friend, Rosalie Rivas; as well as numerous other cousins; sister-in-law, Trina Alvarez; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Beyond Hermelina's tough exterior, she had a heart of gold. With her unique approach of tough love, she raised very strong children and grandchildren. Irene Maestas Garcia - Boulder Daily Camera – September 27, 2006 - Irene Maestas Garcia, of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of Longmont and Lafayette, died of diabetes Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, in Huntington Beach. She was 79. The daughter of Daniel Garcia and Stella Cruz Garcia, she was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Walsenburg. She married Elfirio Maestas in 1946 in Denver. Mrs. Garcia lived in Longmont from 1926 to 1946, and in Lafayette from 1946 to 1960. Survivors include three daughters, Florence Munoz and Rosanne Maestas-Olds, both of Huntington Beach, and Monica Frazier, of Venice, Calif.; six sons, Ray Maestas, of Mission Hills, Calif., Ernest Maestas, of Rock Island, Ill., Ted Maestas, of Long Beach, Calif., Gary Maestas, of Inglewood, Calif., Jerry Maestas, of Los Angeles, and Carlos Maestas, of Huntington Beach; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Dorthy Garcia, of Las Vegas, Marie Reynoso, of Phoenix, Dolores Cardenes, of Lafayette, and Barbara Mendez, of Longmont; and three brothers, Ernie Garcia, of Westminster, Maynard Garcia, of Las Vegas, and Julian Garcia, of Denver. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Florence Montoya and Virginia Lopez; two brothers, Gilbert Garcia and Willie Garcia; and a grandson, Gary Peukert Jr. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 W. Simpson St., Lafayette. Father Bob Amuntsen will officiate. Inurnment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Lafayette Cemetery, 111 Baseline Road. Irene Vigil Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - August 18, 2001 - Age 68, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, departed this life Aug. 15, 2001, at St. Mary-Corwin hospital. Mrs. Garcia was born June 1, 1933, in Burro Canyon, Colo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lilia and Crecencio Vigil; husband, Louis "Chano" Garcia; and three sisters, Frances Romero, Ruth Galbandon and Flora Vigil. Survived by her children, Kathleen (Ed) Gonzales, Claudette (Albert) Medina, Claudine (John) Rael, Marco (Cheryl) Garcia, David (Rhnee) Garcia, Chris (Melissa) Garcia and Raymond Vigil; grandchildren, Rico, Michelle and Leann Gonzales, Nathaleen (Shannon) Lopez, Mickie (Dominio Gonzales) Lucero, Jessica, Erica and Jonathan Garcia, Zackary Garcia; great-grandchildren, Amey, Selina, Gonzales, Anissia, Juliana and Baby Lucero, Nicholas, Alana, Olivia, Nathan (Little Indian), Cassidy and Colleen; one sister-in-law, Eufelia Reyes, Pueblo; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her beloved pets, Blue the cat, Monte and Buthcie the dogs. James “Jimmy” Garcia - Colorado Springs Gazette – July 31, 1989 - James “Jimmy” Garcia, 62, of Colorado Springs died Saturday in a local hospital. He had been a truck driver for National By Products Inc. for more than 40 years. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Swan-Law East Side Sunset Chapel, 3825 Airport Road. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Garcia was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Red Wing to Diego and Lucinda (Maes) Garcia. He had been a resident of the area since 1964. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member and usher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mr. Garcia was married Dec. 30, 1944, in Pueblo to Elvira Coco, who survives. He also is survived by two sons, James R. and Michael, and two daughters, Diane Martinez and Lenore Sanchez, all of Colorado Springs; five brothers, Ernest and Walter of Pueblo, Diego Jr. of Fort Collins, and Joe and Cruz, both of Colorado Springs; five sisters, Elva Salazar and Jane Jiminez, both of Fort Collins, Victoria Quintana and Delmeria Madrid, both of Pueblo, and Gloria Valdez of Denver; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

James Edward Michael Trejo Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - July 16, 1986 - James Edward Michael Trejo Garcia, four-month-old son of James Edward Garcia and Martha Trejo of 2417 Wyoming, died July 15, 1986. Grandson of Antonio and Alice Garcia of Colorado Springs; Pete Trejo of Littleton; and Frank and Dorothy Alcon of Pueblo; an aunt, Mary Theresa Trejo. Several other uncles and aunts also survive. A godson of Mary Ann Clift, Pueblo. Mass of the Angels, 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Church. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Dorothy's PTL Restaurant, 2430 Lake.

Jennie "Shorty" Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - June 18, 2006 - Jennie "Shorty" Garcia, 86, of Pueblo, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2006. Preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Espinoza and Matilda Valdez; brother, Fred Espinoza; and sister, Clara Baca. She is survived by her children, Avelino (Jean) Trujillo, Joyce (David) Patterson and Patsy Trujillo; sisters, Viola Ramirez, Margie Casados and Lupe (Eppie) Griego; grandchildren, Greg (Michelle), Jeff (Rachelle), Denise, Christine, Diane (Marcello) and David; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to cook and be with her family. Memorial service, 2:30 p.m. Monday at Romero Chapel. Inurnment to follow at Imperial Cemetery. Garcia- one daughter, Mary Helen Chavez- and one brother, Inocensio Vargas. Survived by son, Tony (Karla) Garcia, Louisville, Colo.- daughters, Josephine Ayala, Nancy (Jerry) Ortiz and Theresa Garcia, all of Pueblo, and Patsy (Mike) Hernandez, Houston, Texas- sisters, Nicolasa Chavez, Juarez, Mexico, and Clementina (Gilberto) Frescas, Albuquerque, N.M.- grandchildren, Debbie, Andrea, Ray, Shallie, Karla, Christina, Marcos, Monica, Alicia, Mira, Dominic, David and Stefan and seven great-grandchildren. Jessica Toni Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - July 01, 2001 - Jessica Toni Garcia, 21, departed this life June 30, 2001, at Parkview hospital. A lifetime Puebloan she was born Aug. 19, 1979. Jesus "Jess" Martinez Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - July 29, 2003 - Jesus "Jess" Martinez Garcia, 82, born April 4, 1921, passed away July 25, 2003, at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center following a brief illness. A lifetime Pueblo resident, Mr. Garcia was a retired Pueblo Army Depot salvage inspector. He was a nature lover who respected mother Earth to its fullest. On family picnics in the mountains, he would caution his children about the flowers, vegetation and animals who were to be admired, not to pick or tease. Preceded in death by his parents, Jesus R. and Maria (Martinez) Garcia; siblings, Ben, Phillip, Carlos and Lupe Garcia, Barbra Garcia Gonzales, Helen Garcia Ramos; and infants, Las Petraras Garcia. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and best friend of 62 years, Lucy Medina Garcia; children, Judith Garcia Carder, Phyllis Bachicha, Teresa (Nick) Chavez, Barbara Rayas, Marianne Garcia, Sondra (Frank) Glick and Jess Robert (Nancy) Garcia; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Raquel Garcia; children, Joe (Theresa) Garcia Jr., Anna (J.P.) Lujan, Erlinda (Mike) Finn, Cecilia (Bruce) Abo, Donald (Patsy) Garcia; grandchildren, Jacque, Joseph, Jessica, Jennifer, Juan Carlo, Michael, Matt and Anthony; great- grandchildren, Ashley, Mikhail, Rachel, Jalen and Nicolas. Mr. Garcia was born March 5,1924, in Delta, Colo. He retired in 1982 from CF&I Steel Mill's yard department. He always looked forward to the Spring season, to plant his garden. Lawrence Leo Garcia - Greeley Tribune - April 9, 2005 - Greeley, CO - Lawrence Leo Garcia, 82, of La Salle died Tuesday, April 5, at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit, Greeley. He was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Aguilar to Leandro and Addie (Chavez) Garcia. On Dec. 9, 1945, he married Gladys Morales in Longmont. She is deceased. Mr. Garcia attended Kersey High School and received his GED in the military. He earned his associate's degree in business from Colorado State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Colorado. He served in the Army in August 1945. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. His service was shortened because of health problems. He retired from the State Department of Employment in October 1982. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Evans Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6624, Eagles and the Holy Name Society. A charter member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He loved to visit and study the Bible with family and friends. He loved to watch sports, especially the Broncos. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and making tamales and chile. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. Survivors are five daughters, Adrian Esquibel and husband Jake and Alice Derrera and husband John, all of Greeley, Joyce Korgan and husband Fred of Gilcrest, Veronica Griego and husband Richard of La Salle and Mary Jo Holcomb and husband Jerry of Milliken; two sons, Emmanuel "Tex" Garcia and wife Juanita of Thornton and Michael Garcia and wife Jeannie of Johnstown; a brother, Joe F. Martinez of Denver; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters and a brother. Lloyd Garcia – Fort Collins Coloradoan – January 23, 2004 - Lloyd Garcia, 84, of Fort Collins died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at a local nursing home. Mr. Garcia was born March 8, 1919, in Walsenburg, to Joe Garcia and Ruben Martinez Garcia. Mr. Garcia married Mercedes Mary Cordova on March 8, 1942 in Cheyenne, Wyo. Mr. Garcia lived most of his life in Fort Collins. He was a heavy-equipment operator for Ideal Cement for 34 years and one day. Lloyd was a faithful church member and usher at Holy Family Catholic Church. He enjoyed weightlifting, boxing and all sports, and was a member of the American Legion. He also participated in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, and was awarded a key to the city as the oldest living Olympian in Fort Collins. Mr. Garcia is survived by three sons, Robert and Riley Garcia, both of Fort Collins, and Ruben Garcia of La Mirada, Calif.; a daughter, Fern Norman of Fort Collins; a brother, Gilbert Garcia of Redwood City, Calif.; three sisters, Dora Rodriquez of California and Esther Padilla and Stella Salono, both of Fort Collins; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Puggy. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by his wife and one great-grandchild, Brandon Norman. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Lucy Medina Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - July 16, 2006 - Lucy Medina Garcia, 82, was born Dec. 13, 1923, and died July 14, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. Lucy was a lifetime resident of Pueblo and a devoted mother, wife, sister and friend. Her greatest joy was being in her kitchen where she prepared and shared food for the body and soul for all who visited her. She loved entertaining, whether it was in her home or preparing for the annual Ideal Club banquet, or volunteering for a church function. Lucy was a shopaholic, gathering her daughters and sisters once a week to shop and have lunch. She traveled frequently. Her annual trip to Mexico with family and friends was an event she looked forward to. She loved sitting at the beach and, of course, shopping! Lucy's home was filled with seven children, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a variety of friends, commadres and compadres and extended family, all of whom experienced her loving, but firm hand of wisdom. Survived by her children, Judith Garcia Carder, Phyllis Bachicha, Teresa (Nick) Chavez, Barbara Rayas, Marianne Garcia, Sondra "Miki" (Frank) Glick and Jess (Nancy) Garcia. Luis "Lou" E. Garcia - Colorado Springs Gazette - October 22, 1994 - Luis "Lou" E. Garcia, 54, a supervisor at Western Forge Corp. for 26 years, died Oct. 19, 1994, at his home in Colorado Springs. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive, with the Rev. Don Brownstein officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 3825 Airport Road. Mr. Garcia was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Roy, N.M., to Floyd Garcia and Della Sandoval-Garcia, who live in Pueblo. He was married Nov. 1, 1960, in Avondale to Rose (Mares) Garcia, who survives. He also is survived by three daughters, Karen Garcia-George of Tacoma, Wash., Judith Garcia-Schott of Garland, Texas, and Maurita of Colorado Springs; and four grandchildren. Mr. Garcia served in the Navy from 1958 to 1967 in active duty, and was in the reserves for nine years. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was an honorary member of the American GI Forum for 20 years and received the Outstanding Member Award from the Colorado GI Forum. He also served as a board member for a veterans outreach program and was a member of the Los Padrinos Club of St. Patrick's Church. Mr. Garcia had lived in the area since 1967 and previously lived in California. Manuel Garcia - Walsenburg World – February 4, 1929 - Manuel Garcia Dies At Cameron Last Saturday - Manuel Garcia, 54, died at his home at Cameron February 2nd after a short illness. Garcia had been a resident of Cameron for some time and was well known. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Daniel Garcia, Columbine, Siturio Garcia, Cameron and Mrs. Joe N. Maria Garcia - Boulder County News - April 20, 1870 - A murder occurred a few days since in Huerfano county above Badito. The person killed was a woman named Maria Garcia, and the murderer was her own husband, named Felipe Martines. The woman had steped [sic] into a neighbor's house in the evening, and her husband soon came after her. Presently the woman left for home and Martines immediately followed her out, and when within a few paces from the house, shot her with a revolver, the ball taking effect in the lower part of the back, killing her instantly. The murderer then fled over the mountains and was heard of at Calebra.

She was in the Army from 1954 to 1956. Mrs. Garcia was married Nov. 5, 1955, in Orleans, France, to Charles M. Garcia, who survives. She also is survived by three sons, Christopher of Pueblo, Charles of Augusta, Kan., and Michael of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Josie Bozich of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Rocco Catalfamo of Pittsburg, and Sam Catalfamo of Grove City, Pa.; a sister, Catherine Fagg of Canandaigua; and 11 grandchildren. Mary Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - October 2, 1912 - The funeral of Mary Garcia was held yesterday morning at 9 a.m. from the United Undertaking Co.' s parlors. Her husband arrived from Starkville, Colo., yesterday morning to attend the services. Interment was in Roselawn.

Mary A. Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - September 19, 1986 - Mary A. Garcia, 82, passed away Sept 17, 1986, at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital. Mrs. Garcia is survived by one daughter, Elaine Marcus; one grandchild, Ricky E. (Marveen) Marcus, and one great-grandchild, Vanessa DeHerrera, all of Pueblo. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Garcia, in 1957; parents, Isais and Josefita Archuleta; sisters and brothers, Eva Sanchez, Rose Martinez, Pat Archuleta, Tom Archuleta, Minnie Queen, Nettie Archuleta and Joe F. Archuleta, all of Pueblo. She was born on Aug. 31, 1904, in Walsenburg and resided in Pueblo for the past 75 years. Visitation will be held right before time of services. Mass of the Resurrection at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Assumption. Rosary Recitation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 1986, at Imperial Chapel, with Father Raymond Grimes officiating. Interment, Via Crucis, Imperial Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elaine Marcus through the Imperial Funeral Home office.

Mary Ann Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - November 08, 1998 - Mary Ann Garcia, 74, of Pueblo, went to be with the Lord Nov. 7, 1998. Born on Nov. 11, 1923, in Walsenburg. Survived by her loving husband, Johnny Garcia Sr., of the family home in Rye- children, Pearl (Manuel) Gurule, Pueblo, Johnny Garcia Jr., Arvada, JoAnne (Buddy) Galindo, Albuquerque, N.M., Dennis Garcia, and Tim (Brenda) Garcia, both of Pueblo- sisters, Ruth Collins, Ersie Lucero, both of Denver, and Rosella Lopez, Pueblo- grandchildren, Anthony, Tracie and Jeff Galindo, Manuel and Marielle Gurule, Jeremy and Brittany Garcia, Samantha and Sarah Garcia, Ashlee and Ethan Garcia. Mary Ann enjoyed her life with her husband, Johnny, for 52 years. She enjoyed needlepoint, crossword puzzles and grading papers. Viewing from 1-6 p.m. today. Survived by her children, Arthur Garcia, William (Bobbi Jo) Garcia, Pat Martinez, Carolyn (Alfredo) Esquivel and Charles(Beatrice) Garcia. Also survived by 13 grandchildren- 21 great-grandchildren-brothers, Carl Jiminez, Joe (Martha) Jiminez- and sister, Rose (Fermin) Ortiz-as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Preceded also in death by her parents and numerous brothers and sisters. Mrs. Garcia was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church parish where services will beheld. Funeral Mass, Friday, 2 p.m. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends after the Mass at the church.

Mary Frances Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - November 23, 2003 - Mary Frances Garcia, 71, born April 2, 1932, passed away Nov. 20, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul Santos “Sam” Garcia in 2001. Survived by her children, Paul P. Garcia, Denver, Rick (Kathy) Garcia, Patrick (Melissa Ballard) Garcia, Cecily (Bob) Donovan, Christopher (Theresa) Garcia and Paulette (Victor) White, all of Pueblo. Grandmother of Kaylee and Paul Tyler Garcia, Caroline (Darren Albert), Nicolle, Nicholas (Audrey), Matthew, Jessica and Annie Garcia, Felicia (Mariano Gomez) Garcia, Remy (Marcus Lucero), Douglas and Robert Donovan, Jacob (Jessica Walker), Jodie (Rich Roman) and Jeffrey Garcia, Zachary, Micaela and Carly Baker. Great grandmother of Rilee and Julia Martinez and DaMarquez Sisneros. Also survived by brothers, Felix and Richard Godinez; sisters, Vickie Roldan and Jenny Perez; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, friends and many relatives in Mexico. Preceded in death also by her parents, Aucensia and Phillip Godinez; brother, Angel Godinez; and sister, Esther Sanchez. She was especially close to relatives, Jenny, Vickie, Mary Jo and Sarah. Mary was an RN for over 30 years. She retired from Colorado State Hospital but continued to work in various nursing positions. Mary was the co-owner of Primary Home Care. She enjoyed her vacation home in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico, and had many interests including gardening, writing, sewing, listening to music, cooking and church activities, especially making her special green chile hamburgers at the Assumption Festival. She especially loved Sunday dinners with her family. Viewing, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, at the funeral home. Rosary, 7 p.m. Tuesday, and funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, both services at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. Mary O. Garcia - Clovis News Journal - February 14, 2004 - Clovis, NM - Mary O. Garcia, 79, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Laurel Plains Healthcare in Clovis. Mrs. Garcia was born on May 3, 1924, in Trinidad, Colo. She was raised in Raton and lived most of her life in Clovis. In 1944, she married Frank Garcia in Clovis. She moved to Clovis after she met her husband while attending the New Mexico School for the Blind. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four sisters. Survivors are two sons, Richard Garcia (his wife Mary Lou) of Albuquerque; and Joe Garcia (Rainy) of Waynesboro, Va.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Father Sotero Sena will officiate services. Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

A Pueblo resident since 1946 until moving to live with daughter in Fountain, Colo. in March 2002. Mrs. Garcia was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Manuel and Carmen Hernandez, both deceased. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and bingo. Preceded in death by her husband Ben F. Garcia, son Tony Garcia, daughter, Betty Ann Velasco, brothers, Pedro, Adolfo, Manual and Ernest Hernandez, all of Phoenix, Ariz., and sister, Carmen Mercado of Calif. She is survived by son Benito Garcia, Pueblo, daughter Virginia (Patrick) Medina of Fountain, Colo., grandchildren Gilbert Medina and Ray J. Velasco of Fountain, Colo. Also survived by sisters, Eliza Vargas, Stella (Manuel) Pineda and brother John (Barbara) Hernandez all from Phoenix, Ariz., to include many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Society at Mount Carmel Church and the Ideal Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Philip M. Garcia and a granddaughter, Tiffany Garcia. She is survived by her children, Frank (Geri) Garcia, Michael (Elizabeth) Garcia and Loretta (Joe) Garcia; a sister, Carmen (Alex) Ledesma; and a brother, Antonio (Lucy) Roldan; grandchildren, Stacie (Vincent) DeBell, Carolyn (Johnnie) Santistevan, Michelle, Elisa and Joseph Garcia II; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be held Thursday from noon-3 p.m. at the funeral home. A Recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday at 7 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. Both services at Our Lady of the Assumption Church with interment in Roselawn Cemetery.

Max Joe Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - July 23, 2000 - Max Joe Garcia, 42, departed this life unexpectedly July 19, 2000, at St. Mary-Corwin hospital. Born Aug. 16, 1957, in Grand Junction. He was a self-employed gardener and landscaper. Preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anna (Martinez) Garcia; and a brother, Frank Roy. Survived by his wife, Mary Jean (Roy) Garcia; children, Eric, Lee, Michelle, Robert "Bobby" and Jessica Garcia; six brothers; four sisters; mother- and father-in-law, Gene and Judy Roy, Monte Vista; two brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service, 11 a.m. Monday, West Street Baptist Church, 1001 West Street, Pastor Dougles Morris officiating. Family will receive friends at 2531 E. Routt.

Melquires “Mel” Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - February 04, 2002 - Age 89, born Nov. 6, 1913, in Roy, N.M., went to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2002. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elvira Garcia; brothers, John and Floyd Garcia; sisters, Angelica Martinez and Caroline Gonzales; and mother, Genoveva Garcia. Mel is survived by his loving children; son, George (Penny) Garcia and daughters, Ida (Richard) Wilson, Dora (Jake) Miera, Alice (Bernal) Aranda and Fabby (Tony) Romero. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Tobias and Jenny Ortega; brother-in-law, Faustin Ortega; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and his faithful pet, Nick, all of Pueblo. Mel enjoyed camping and fishing. He also enjoyed going to the SRDA for lunch and visiting with friends from his hometown. He was a wonderful husband and father. He took care of his wife with the help of his children through her sickness. Mel retired from the PAD after 35 years of service. Visitation, noon until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Adrian Comer Garden Chapel. Rosary, 7 p.m., Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002. Both services at Mount Carmel. Interment, Roselawn. Family will receive friends at the family home.

Garcia, Miguel
Miguel Garcia - Colorado Public Defender – December 20, 1884 - Pueblo. H-W. Hanging/Broken neck. A native of Mexico, Garcia, age fifty-four, did not speak English. He was employed gathering old rags, bones, iron, etc. After a change of venue to Pueblo, Garcia was convicted of killing his employer, Dennis Wilkes, near Las Animas, in Bent County. Garcia crushed Wilkes' head while he lay in bed sleeping; the alleged motive was robbery. The murder occurred after Wilkes had employed Garcia for two weeks. Garcia abruptly left town before the body was discovered and pawned the victim's watch. Garcia was actually tried and convicted three times; the first conviction was set aside by the trial court because of errors in the trial transcript, and the second was set aside by the trial court because of insufficiency of the evidence. A crowd of approximately four thousand attended the execution, which, like the trial, was held in Pueblo.

Moses Levi "Moe" Garcia - Pueblo Chieftain - February 11, 2001 - Age 57, of Pueblo passed away Feb. 9, 2001. Born Sept. 4, 1943, in Alamosa, Colo. Preceded in death by his father, Moises L. Garcia. Survived by his former wife and best friend, Bonnie C. Garcia, Englewood, Colo.; sons, Donovan M. Garcia and Travis M. Garcia, both of Denver, Colo.; mother, Placida Garcia, Denver; brother, Joseph H. Garcia, Denver, Colo.; sisters, Virginia N. Murta, Littleton, and Mary Ellen Garcia, Pueblo; former mother-in-law, Connie Atencio, Denver; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Moses enjoyed bowling, fishing, reading, riding his bike and working on his computer. He was also an amateur photographer. Viewing, 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Romero Chapel.
