Dotson, Sarah E.
Sarah E. Dotson - Colorado Daily Chieftain – December 22, 1875 – Dotson - On the 21st inst., in Pueblo, Sarah E., eldest daughter of Rev. W.A. Dotson, pastor of the Methodist Episcopalian church, aged 19 years. The funeral will take place from the residence of her parents, at half past 2:00 this (Wednesday) afternoon. Colorado Daily Chieftain - December 24, 1875 - Miss Sarah E. Dotson – I take this method of extending the sincere thanks of bleeding but appreciative hearts to Revs. Monfort and Tompkins, and the many friends who so generously gave their friendly offices and tears of sympathy in the sickness and at the funeral of our dear departed one. From her early childhood the deceased was accustomed to regular seasons of prayer, and in later years gave unmistakable evidence of her love for the Divine Human Christ, the Sunday school and the church. She never entered the ball room or the play circle. Endowed with a nature too tender and confiding for earth, she felt keenly its scorn and slights and learned only by bitter experience that much of our social life is but a sham and a cheat. She never gave intentional offense to either rich or poor, and toward the close of her life turned for sympathy and cheer to generous and unselfish natures without regard to their graduated scale in the social world. From the age of two years she was during much of her life a great physical sufferer. After the first four days of her final sickness she enjoyed few lucid moments; but whenever asked expressed love for the Savior and unwavering trust in the merits of his death. At the first visit of the doctor she told him of a beautiful dream of the previous night. She dreamed that Christmas had come, and that she saw the Savior surrounded by many little children, all dressed in white robes. (Poem) She was born September 29th, 1856, and died at 3 o'clock and 30 minutes, December 21st, 1875. (poem). W.A. Dotson
