Daveline, Richard T.
Richard T. “Rich” Daveline - Pueblo Chieftain - February 20, 2005 - Richard T. “Rich” Daveline, 94, passed away Feb. 17, 2005. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris K. Daveline; brother, L.A. Daveline. Rich is survived by his children, Lauretta Gaherty, Jon (Carrie) Daveline, Julie (Les) Moroye, Larry Daveline, Jerry (Dottie) Daveline; grandchildren, Kathy (Phil) Stump, Janette (Kevin) Rhoades, Jim (Lindsey) Gould, Debbie (Dave) Howard, Dirk (Sherri) Daveline, Dan (Theresa) Daveline, Leslie Moroye, Jennifer (Dusty) Moroye-Young, Eric (Christy) Moroye, Nicholas Daveline, Adam Daveline, Sara Daveline, Megan Daveline; 13 great-grandchildren. Rich was a member of the Shrine of St. Therese. He was involved with the retail shoe business in downtown Pueblo for more than 40 years. Upon his retirement in 1975, “The Mayor of Main Street” began his new life with family and golf. Viewing will be 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, with a vigil service to follow at 6 p.m., at T. G. McCarthy Rose Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Shrine of St. Therese with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Catholic Charity of the Diocese of Pueblo through the funeral home office.

David, Wilfrido L.
Wilfrido L. David - Pueblo Chieftain - Pueblo Chieftain - April 01, 2003 - Wilfrido L. David, M.D., 71, of Pueblo passed away on March 27, 2003, born on Oct. 19, 1931, in Pampanga, Philippines, to the union of Fernando and Juliana David. He attended and graduated from the University of Santa Tomas Medical School in Manila, Philippines, in 1953. Together with his bride, he moved to the United States in 1954. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Zenaida; children, Maria (Sherman “Butch”) Millirans, Robert (Beverly “Bambi”) David, Wilfrido “Lonnie” (Anita) David, JoJo (Anne Marie) David; grandchildren, Kalena and Joshua Millirans, Leah and Andrew David, Lauryn and Chadron David; sister, Mirla Flor Faridy, Winnipeg, Manitoba; brother, Fernando David, Pennsylvania; along with numerous other relatives and friends. He loved his wife first and foremost, in Christ, and that love spread through to his children, grandchildren, colleagues and patients. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Christ the King Church, with inurnment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

Davidson, Donald D.
Donald D. Davidson - Pueblo Chieftain - April 28, 1943 - Funeral services for Donald D. Davidson who died Tuesday will be held at the Davis Mortuary chapel at 3:30 p.m. today. Rev. George F. Lowe will officiate. Interment will be made in Mountain View Cemetery. Mr. Davidson had been a resident of Pueblo for 25 years, and was employed in the wire mill of the CF&I Corp. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Flora Gill, Albuquerque, N.M. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Las Vegas, N.M.

Davidson, James
James Davidson - Pueblo Chieftain - January 8, 1924 - James Davidson, age 86years, died in Trinidad, Colo. January 5. The body reached Pueblo Monday afternoon and was taken direct from the depot to Mountain View cemetery where interment was made. Arrangements in charge of the United Davis-Vories Undertaking Co.

Davidson, Janette M.
Janette M. Davidson - Pueblo Chieftain - September 9, 1919 - Janette M. Davidson, age 76, died at home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert Gill, of 1430 East Tenth Street, early yesterday morning. Mrs. Davidson has been ill for several months. She came here five years ago with her husband and since has resided at the family home, 1617 East Eighth Street. She was a member of the First Christian church of Colorado Springs. She is survived by her husband and son, James, of the family residence and one daughter, Mrs. Bert Gill. The body was removed to the United Funeral Home and the announcement of the funeral will be made later.

Davie, Charles Edward
Charles Edward Davie - Pueblo Chieftain - September 10, 1997 - Charles Edward Davie, 90, a retired Colorado and Wyoming (C&W) Railroad engineer, died on Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at the Westwind Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past year. Mr. Davie came to Pueblo from Clarksville, Tenn., in 1928 and married Dorothy Lee Smith in 1936. He was a 35-year employee of C&W Railroad at the Colorado Fuel and Iron Corporation (CF&I) and became the first African-American to achieve the position of engineer, rising from the labor force. During World War II, he also worked several part-time jobs so Mrs. Davie could care for their two children, Michael and Charlotte. He passed his work ethic and his positive Christian attitude to his children. God is paramount in their lives and their families' lives. Michael is a health-care marketing executive in New Jersey and Charlotte is a nurse in South Carolina. An active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for more than 60 years, he held various offices and was a respected elder of the church, a member of the Pueblo branch NAACP and various railroad organizations. Mr. Davie enjoyed and dedicated himself to helping others after his retirement. Mr. Davie would transport the elderly to church, food markets and doctors' appointments. He was excited and enthusiastic when helping others to enjoy their lives. He also chauffeured for the Angelus Funeral Home. An avid golfer, Mr. Davie was always willing to teach others the game. He traveled throughout the United States playing golf. Playing Pebble Beach in Northern California was truly one of his memorable games. He also was an accomplished dominoes player. A devoted Dodgers and Colorado Rockies fan, he would travel to the World Series and preseason games of all teams. He would travel and vacation with his son's and daughter's families, driving across the United States, Canada and Mexico, visiting tourist attractions, monuments and unique regional restaurants. Mr. Davie is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, 1969, and a grandson, Chistopher Wheeler, 1994, his parents, Virgil and Centennial Davie, and cousins, Nanette and Andre McMurray and Blanche Custer. He will be truly missed by his son, Michael, and daughter, Charlotte. He is survived by three grandsons, Michael and Kevin Davie and Charles Eugene Armijo, a granddaughter, Tiffinni, and one great-grandson, Arman, and a cousin, Bobbie Johnson. Services for Mr. Davie will be held at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1044 Spruce St., Pueblo, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at 3 p.m. At the family's request, cremation has taken place.

Davies, Judith Bell
Judith "Judy" Bell Davies - Colorado Springs Gazette - February 11, 2007 - Judith "Judy" Bell Davies, 95, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed peacefully from this life February 8, 2007 at a nursing facility. Judy was born in Falls City, Nebraska on July 27, 1911, a daughter of the late, Max C. and May E. Sugden Walter. She moved to Pueblo in 1922 where she and her family lived in a tent for a year, a popular treatment for TB. She finished High School in 1930 and went on to teach in one room school house near Pueblo. I 1942 she moved to Colorado Springs and took a job with OPA (Office of Price Administration). In 1948 she took a job at the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce as the secretary for the Chamber manager before being transferred to the finance department as the Director of Finance until 1960. From 1960-1961 Judy trained instructors to teach Dale Carnegie courses. She also taught the course to women in prison in Cannon City. In 1961 Judy went to work for the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center until 1969 when she retired. Judy attended the University of Northern Colorado, U.C.C.S. and Blair Business College, where she later taught for a few years. Judy was involved in many organizations over the years to include: Business and Professional Women's club, where she eventually was named as the State President, The Pike National Forest Advisory Council, she was the first women to be on the board for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, she was selected by the Governor to the Governors Commission for the Advancement of Women, El Paso Society for Crippled Children (Now Easter Seals), served on the Board of Directors of Pikes Peak Seniors, was instrumental in the creation of Care Castle, an intergenerational Child Day Care Center, she was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital Auxiliary with over 10,000 hours of service, during which time she designed the baby cap that newborns still wear today when they come home from the hospital and many more organizations that help to improve our community. Judy was founder of the Republican Women's Club. She is included in the El Paso County Pioneer Women at the Pioneer Museum. Judy was listed in "Who's Who of American Women" for her involvement with women's organizations. She was also selected for the Senior League Community Service Award in 1995. Judy was an avid quilter and knitter, many of her quilts can be viewed at the Pioneer Museum in Colorado Springs. She is survived by her son, James (Joan) Davies, Lake Quivira, Kansas, a stepson, Richard Bell, Englewood, Colorado, grandsons, James (Moon) Davies II, Peyton, Colorado, Mark (Anne) Davies, Colorado Springs, Colorado, granddaughters, Margaret and Katherine Bell. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Davies and her second husband, Willard Bell, a son Bert Davies and grandson, John Davies. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2007 at Blunt Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Blunt Mortuary Chapel 2229 W. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. Entombment will follow at Shrine of Remembrance. Davis, Alice Ruby
Alice Ruby Davis - La Veta Signature - January 29, 1987 - Alice Ruby Davis, 67, of Walsenburg, died unexpectedly on Thursday morning, January 22, at Huerfano County Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Davis was born May 8, 1919, near Rouse on her parents' ranch, Sam and Angie Rogers Herlyck, below the East Spanish Peak. She was raised on this ranch until her high school years when she moved to Cameron with her family. After her graduation from Walsenburg High School, she attended Adams State College where she earned her teaching degree in Secondary Education. It was while at Adams State College where she married J. Wayne Davis on January 27, 1940, at Taos, New Mexico. Mrs. Davis had taught at Dolores, Center, Tioga, and Walsenburg. She retired in 1967 after more than thirty years teaching. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Methodist Church and had been Sunday School Superintendent several years. She was active in Naomi Chapter, No. 14, Order of Eastern Star where she had served several times as Worthy Matron of the local Chapter. She was the current president of Huerfano County Hospital Auxiliary where she had served many years. She was also a member of the Territorial Daughters of Colorado. For many years she was the Chairperson of the Advisory Board Order of Rainbow for Girls, Walsenburg Assembly No. 10. She was formerly a member of a teacher's honor sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Woman's Club of Walsenburg. Surviving are her husband, J. Wayne Davis, Walsenburg, two daughters, Shelly (David) Daniel, South Fork, and Laurel Davis, Ft. Collins, two granddaughters, Sandy and Pam Daniel, two sisters Mary Frances Kravic, Walsenburg, and Maude (Elbert) Roush, Metairie, LA, and by other relatives and friends. Any memorial contributions can be made to the Huerfano County Hospital Auxiliary.

Alma Davis - Huerfano World - December 19, 1977 - Funeral services were conducted Friday at United Church for Alma Mathilda Davis, 87, of Walsenburg. Mrs. Davis died at St. Mary Corwin Hospital, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1977, after an illness of several months. Born at Sutton, Neb., Oct. 4, 1891, Mrs. Davis moved with her family to Grand Island, Neb., where she attended school. She married Arthur Lee Davis Apr. 27, 1914. He died in 1960. (Cut off)

Annabelle L. Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - July 18, 2002 - Annabelle L. Davis, 93, passed away July 16, 2002. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Sam Davis; and daughter, Janice I. Russell. She is survived by her son-in-law, Arthur Russell; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 19 at New Life Bible Church, 110 S. La Crosse Ave.

Davis, Annie E.
Annie E. Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - October 20, 2003 - Annie E. Davis, 85, departed this life Oct.18, 2003, in Pueblo. Annie was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Canton, Ill., to Herman and Anna Meyer. Annie grew up in the farming areas of Illinois, and married her husband, James, in 1935. She has been a Pueblo resident for almost 60 years. Throughout the years, she maintained her love of farm life on her acre of land tending to her beloved garden and farm animals. She was known for her very hard work which included meat packing companies, canning factories and nursing homes. After becoming a widow at age of 53, she worked as a cook at a nursing home for 20 more years until retiring at age 73 due to bad health. Annie loved the outdoors, the mountains and fishing. She was very thankful for her family and devoted much of her life to helping them. Annie was a member of Prairie Avenue Baptist Church and Past ABWA Woman of the Year. Annie was preceded in death by her husband, James; and daughter, Mary Sumrall. She is survived by her children, Millie (Tom) Steininger; James (Betty) Davis; Joseph (Carol) Davis; grandchildren, Douglas (Debra) Cook; Kathy (David) Hobbs; Joe (Debbie) Davis, Brian (Michela) Caruso, Judy (Vance) Hubersberger, Jason (Cindy) Davis; and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Davison; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Davis will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the mortuary. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 22, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Pastor George White officiating. Interment will follow in the Imperial Cemetery.

Cecil (Chic) Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - December 06, 2005 - Cecil (Chic) Davis, passed upward on Dec. 1, 2005. Born Oct. 29, 1925 in Chickasha, Okla. Retired from the USMC, he was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam. He will be missed by many. Semper Fi. Private gathering by family.

Davis, Cyril
Cyril Davis - Walsenburg World Independent - November 29, 1913 - Cyril Davis who met with a sad accident which cost him his life was the oldest son of Mr. And Mrs. John Davis. He was born Oct. 25, 1893 in Rouse Colorado. His boyhood days were spent in Walsen. Less than two months ago Mr. Davis and Cyril left for Utah where they (unreadable) Blackhawk mine. On the evening of Nov. 17th, while going to work Cyril was injured on the train way track, death following instantly. The body was brought to Walsenburg Wednesday evening by the heartbroken father accompanied by Mr. Tom Lewis of Utah. The funeral was conducted Thursday afternoon from St. Peters Episcopal Church. The Maccabees of which the deceased was a member had charge of the funeral. The pall bearers were Tom Body Comb, Tom Harron, Roy Mitchell, Will Body Comb, Archie Allison and John Campbell. The sympathy of this community goes out to the heartbroken family theis (unreadable) sad bereavement. This is the third death in the Davis family in less than seven months two daughters having died last spring with Scarlet Fever.

Davis, Dollie
Dollie Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - March 22, 1921 - Mrs. Dollie Davis, age 33 years, died at a local hospital yesterday afternoon. She is survived by her husband and eight children, and her mother, Mrs. Mary Beach, all residing in Pueblo. The body is being cared for at the United Davis-Vories parlors and funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Davis, Dorothy Mae
Dorothy Mae Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - November 19, 2004 - Dorothy Mae Davis died in Oberlin, Kas. on Nov. 12, 2004. Her journey began in Jennings, Kan. on July 23, 1917. She was the oldest of five children of Edgar and Ruth Keenan. Dorothy and Les Davis were married in 1975. She is survived by son Tom Ferriter and his wife Debra of Longmont; step-son Dick Davis and wife Brenda of Texas; step-daughters Doris Kester and Carol Lombard and Carol's husband Warren all of Pueblo. Also surviving are a brother, a sister and two sisters-in-laws, six grandchildren including Patty Kester and Everett Lombard of Pueblo, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday Nov. 15 in Oberlin and burial was in Jennings.

Davis, Eary Lea
Eary Lea Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - December 22, 2002 - Eary Lea Davis, 91, of 628 Third St., Las Animas, Colo., died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Bent County Memorial Nursing Home. Eary Lea is survived by one daughter, Lela and Donald Schauer of Colorado Springs; one son, Lonnie and Roxanne Davis of Las Animas; two sisters, Lois Zeida of Pagosa Springs and Ozella Thomas of Pueblo; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Las Animas, Colo. Interment will follow in the Las Animas Cemetery.

Davis, Edgar Emanuel
Edgar Emanuel Davis - Huerfano World - March 11, 1999 - Edgar Emanuel Davis, 77, of Alamosa, died March 6, 1999, after a long battle with cancer. He was known as Mr. Spudnut or Candyman to generations of Valley children. Born September 6, 1921 in Huerfano County to Arthur Lee and Alma Becker Davis, he served in the US Army during World War II where he took part in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Davis married Margaret Fletcher in 1948 and they moved to Mosca where they ranched for many years until purchasing the Spudnut Shop in Alamosa. They operated the business for 33 years before retiring. He was active in the First United Methodist Church, Alamosa Senior Citizens, RSVP, Share Colorado, Moffat Hooper Mosca Service League, SLV Historical Society and the History Museum. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Margaret, Alamosa; his children, Susan E. Lara, Coos Bay, OR, Robert M. Davis, Alamosa and Diane L. Puntenney, Arvada; two brothers, Milton Davis, Tullahoma, TN, and Marvin Davis, Walsenburg; three sisters, Leona Owens, El Cajon, CA, Thelma Tucker Wynne and Rosella Orr, both of Cuchillo, NM; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral service was from First United Methodist Church in Alamosa. Burial was in the Alamosa Cemetery.

Davis, Estel Arthur
Estel Arthur Davis - Huerfano World - October 22, 1970 - Estel Arthur Davis, 55, La Junta, formerly of Walsenburg, died early Monday morning, Oct. 19, 1970, of an apparent heart attack on his son's ranch 14 miles above Aguilar. Davis was born at Holenburg, Kan., June 19, 1915. At the age of five he came with his parents, the late Arthur Davis and Mrs. Davis to Huerfano County where he was reared on a ranch. Most of his life has been spent in Huerfano County and Las Animas County where he ranched until moving to La Junta three years ago. Davis, who married the former Josephine Gee Oct. 28, 1938, in Walsenburg, was a member of the Methodist Church and the Cattlemen's Association. Besides his wife, Josephine, he is survived by two sons, Donald Davis, Aguilar and Alvin L. Davis, La Junta; a daughter, Norma J. Heikes, La Veta, his mother, Mrs. Alma Davis, Walsenburg; three brothers, Edgar Davis, Alamosa, Milton Davis, Tullahoma, Tenn., and Marvin Davis, Walsenburg; three sisters, Mrs. Leomo Ownes, El Cajon, Calif., Mrs. The__ Tucker, Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Rosella Orr, Aurora; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, at the United Church. The Rev. Mr. Ward Barter will officiate. Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery. Boies Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Davis, Floyd Sylvester
Floyd Sylvester Davis - The Alamosa Daily Courier - May 1921 - Thursday at La Veta other veterans of the World were in uniform took charge of the services and gave him a burial with military honors in La Veta Cemetery where he will sleep beside his father, Frank Davis. He is mourned by his wife and two little sons, Georgie and Charles, one sister, Mrs. Ed Nissen, of San Acacio, Colo., and by his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Davis, of Alamosa. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Frank Davis of La Veta. Since September 1906, Floyd has made his home with his uncle in this city. He early determined upon army life, and joined the regular army at Fort Logan, and served afterward with Co. M. of the 4th Cavalry in Hawaii. Afterward he saw active service with the 8th Cavalry on the Mexican border. After his Mexican service, Floyd was transferred to the quartermaster's department. When volunteers were called for to go to France, Floyd was one of 30 to go with the first American convoy. They landed at Nantes, on the west coast, afterward moving up to establish the receiving and distributing stations for the Argonne and other southern lines. Here he met his wife, who was Miss Lucienne Blondeau, a clerk in the quartermaster's department. She preceded him to America soon after the armistice was signed. Floyd joined her in Alamosa as soon as his term of service ended in April 1920.

Davis, Frances L.
Frances L. Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - November 11, 2001 - Frances L. Davis, 86, passed away Nov. 9, 2001. Preceded by husband, Everett P. Davis. Survived by nephews, Jack Davis and John Lisac, and niece, Fran Burckhartt. Frances was a member of Church of Christ, 801 E. Fourth St. At her request, no services.

Davis, George E.
George E. Davis - Huerfano World - July 22, 1999 - George E. Davis, born May 30, 1906 in Walsen Camp, died July 17, 1999 in Walsenburg. Preceded in death by his wife, Muriel, in August of 1986 and his son-in-law, Don in January of 1997. Survived by a son, Ray E. Davis, Trinidad, a daughter, Patricica Wagner, Walsenburg, grandchildren, Shelly Wagner and Natalie Grubelnik, Aguilar, Dick (Sandy) Wagner, Walsenburg, Mitch (Sherry) Wagner, George (Jennifer) Wagner, La Veta, great-grandchildren, Dawna (Daniel) Avila, Dallas, TX., Michael Grubelnick, Bremerton, WA., Rick Wagner and Erika Wagner, Walsenburg, Holly Wagner, Pueblo, Caramie Wagner and Austin Wagner, Jessi Wagner, La Veta, a great-great-grand daughter, Shayla Avila, Dallas, TX., nephews, Ted Elias, CA., and Donnie Jim (Ani) Elias, Denver. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 2643 and American Legion Posts of Walsenburg. He was a very active member of the Democratic Party in his younger years. After his retirement, he didn't serve as much, but he was especially proud of helping elect our present County Clerk, Judy Benine, and our present Sheriff, John Salazar, often stating that he had never met two more honest politicians. He served as Deputy County Clerk for many years, under Conrad Cordova and Albert Vigil. When he retired from there, he went to work for the Walsenburg Housing Authority under Guy Blasi and Dave Mockmore. After his retirement from that; he and his son-in-law, Don spent many hours keeping tabs on the ranch, and going for rides every day to make sure everything was as it should be. When Don passed away, he always said he had lost his best buddy. He was a Broncoholic, and was so proud and happy when they won, and so mad when they lost. His joy was complete with the two Super Bowl wins, and he was looking forward to this year's threepeat. George was a veteran of WWII, having served in Iwo Jima, so when our new Colorado State Veterans Home, here in Walsenburg, became a reality, he always said he wanted to spend his last years there. He moved to the home in February of 1998, where all the nurses and staff fell in love with his orneriness. He loved all of them, and his special nurses on the hospital side also. Gino Ty Davis – Pueblo Chieftain – August 5, 2006 – Gino Ty Davis, July 21, 1966 to July 29, 2006. The unexpected departure of Gino on July 29, 2006 has left great sorrow in all who knew him. His sense of humor even through adversity will be truly missed. Davis, Jr. He is survived by his children, Sharron (Bob) Twarogowski, Kathy (Ray) Mehalko, Gordon (Linda) Davis, Elaine (Jim) Folga, and Kenneth Davis Sr., 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Howard was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing poker and watching sports on television. He had an incredible sense of humor and a heart of gold. (Jim) Davis of Chelsea, Mich., formerly of Pueblo, Colo., age 81, died Friday morning, April 5, 2002, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born July 5, 1920, in Grand Rapids. Jim moved to Pueblo in the early 1970s, where he began his real estate career. He culminated his career in the sales industry as a commercial real-estate broker. While in Pueblo, he had been vice president of the Pueblo Board of Realtors, a member of Chamber of Commerce and Minnequa Rotary Club. Jim was a U of M alumnus and a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander, naval aviator. Mr. Davis enjoyed sightseeing, square dancing and sailing. His wife of 52 years, Jean (Wagner) preceded him in death in 1994. Surviving are his two children, Bill (Therese) Davis of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., and Chris (Don) Roberts of Chelsea, Mich., and five grandchildren, Ben (Mandy) Davis and Jaysa (Zac) Davis, Stamey, Scott Yates, Joel Yates and Jay Roberts; and two sisters, Betty Molloy of Grand Rapids and Barb Brewer of Elk Rapids, Mich. He was born in Wales in 1866, coming to Colorado in 1889. He was a former coal miner and belonged to many organizations including IOOF, Knights of Pythias and Rebekahs. Lois Maurine Strack Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - January 08, 2006 - Lois Maurine Strack Davis, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and soon to be great-grandmother passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 in Sacramento, Calif. at the age of 80. She was born on Nov. 14, 1925. She was the wife of 60 years to Kenneth (Kenny), mother of Kendelyn Masse, mother-in-law to Gary Masse, grandmother to Tiffany Masse, Jamie Masse-Jungk and Jeffrey Jungk. Lois lived her life to the fullest. She and Kenny traveled all over the world and loved the Hawaiian Islands the best. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emily Stack and her brother John Stack. Lois was born and raised in Pueblo, Colo. and was in the graduating class of 1944 from Centennial High School. She never missed a reunion with all her friends from Centennial. She leaves two little sons who will be taken in charge by a charity organization and given homes.

Born in Walsenburg, June 29, 1898, to Antonio and Reyes Sanchez, pioneers of the area; she was baptized in St. Mary Catholic Church and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1920. She taught school in the Gardner area where she married Marcos Kaparos in 1923. After his death in 1945 she moved to Pueblo where she married Stanley Davis. She is survived by her son, Anthony Kaparos, Pueblo; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery in Pueblo.

Martha Ruth Davis is survived by three daughters, Judy (Larry) Olivarez of Santa Ynez, Janice Mathews of Solvang, Willa (Ray) Fletcher of Newport News, Va.; son, Ricki (Vicki) Davis of Tenn.; sister, Ruby Hodges of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by four husbands, Albert Williams, Leslie David Watson, Don Womack, and Phil Davis; two children, Virginia and Sonny Williams; and son-in-law Robert Mathews. Survived by her children, George (Judy) Davis, John Davis, Terri Smith, Judy (Richard) Bilpush, Ray (Maggie) Davis and Susan Davis; and grandchildren, Patrick (Patricia) Davis, Mark (Cathy) Davis, Tricia (Stephen) Davis, Carrie (Christian) Dunn, Richard Bilpush, Janine (Kevin) Hartman, Eric Wimber and Laura Piquette. Also survived by five great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia O'Rourke. Preceded in death by her husband, George A. Davis; granddaughter, Melanie Smith; and sister, Helen Petric. Davis, Max Quinter
Max Quinter Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - July 13, 2004 - Max Quinter Davis, 88, passed away July 11, 2004. Survived by his wife, Erline Davis; daughter, Margaret Anne Brubaker of Colorado Springs; stepchildren, Gary Ives and Sondra Jantz, both of Cimarron, Kan.; brother, Ronald Davis of Ontario, Calif.; grandchildren, Vicki Lord, Scott Brubaker and Christy Mearns; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lord and Hayley Brubaker; numerous step-grand- and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Davis; second wife, Bernita Davis; and brothers, Lyle and Harold Davis. Max was born to Quinter and May Davis on July 30, 1915, in Sabetha, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval photographer during World War II. He was the manager of S.H. Kress in Pueblo from 1952 until 1962, then became a realtor for Haver-Leach Co. and worked at Isabelle's Dress Shop. Max was very active in the Pueblo community as a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church, 32nd Degree Mason and on the Presbyterian Towers Board. He received the first Others Award from Pueblo Salvation Army and was a member of the Lions Club. There will be no viewing and a private interment will be held prior to the service. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church, 220 W. 10th St., with the Rev. Dr. Brad Munroe officiating. Those who desire may make memorials to First Presbyterian Memorial Fund or Salvation Army.

Michael P. “Mike” Davis – Pueblo Chieftain – August 6, 2006 - Michael P. "Mike" Davis, 54, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 3, 2006, as a result of an airplane accident. Survived by his loving wife, Beth Davis, who terms Mike as "the best husband in the universe and beyond"; son, Christopher Michael "Chris" (Staci) Davis of Morristown, Tenn.; father, Paul Davis of Vincennes, Ind.; sisters, Sue (Gary) Walker of LaGrange, Ill., Debbie (Johnny) Mennenga of Belleview, Fla.; brother, Jim (Barb) Davis of Schaumburg, Ill.; grandchildren, Chase Davis and Nolan Sniffen; mother-in-law, Helen Bricker of Richmond, Ind.; brother-in-law, Tom (Dolly) Bricker of Pekin, Ind.; nieces, Beth Walker and Kelly Conneen; nephews, Brian Walker and Patrick Westin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by his mother, Helen Davis in January 2005. Mike was born June 26, 1952, in Vincennes, Ind. At the time of his death, he was serving as president of Pueblo Community College, as well as serving on numerous boards including the SunWest Educational Credit Union, Pueblo Community Health Center, PEDCo, Pueblo WorkLink and Pueblo Diversified Industries. He was also a founding member of the Pueblo Education Consortium. Mike was a member of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. He loved flying and bicycling. Mike loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, son and grandfather. There will be no viewing. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in the Fortino Ballroom at Pueblo Community College with the Rev. Father Leonard Racki officiating. Concluding services and interment will be held Friday in Vincennes, Ind. Olinda “Millie” M. Davis - Pueblo Chieftain - February 12, 2002 - Age 84, passed away Feb. 10, 2002, in Pueblo, Colo. She was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Russell, Kan., to Charles and Katie Fose who preceded her; along with her husband of 28 years, Floyd Davis; and numerous sisters and brother. Survived by her sisters, Mollie Rein of Clovis, Calif., and Rose Arellano of Pueblo, Colo.; stepchildren, Wendy Pavlik of Colorado Springs, Miriam McCray of Pueblo, Rebecca Davis of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Juliana Davis of Pueblo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Per her request, there will be no funeral service, but burial will take place at 3 p.m. today at Imperial Memorial Gardens.

Miss Olive Davis - Walsenburg World Independent - March 29, 1913 - In Memoriam, Died, of Scarlet fever, at the home of her parents, Mr. And Mrs. John Davis at Walsen, Colo. On Friday, March 21, 1913, Miss Olive Davis, aged 15 years, 4 months and 6 days. Funeral services were conducted by Roy Dow at the cemetery Saturday afternoon. Miss Davis was ill but a few days and her death comes as a blow to her parents and many friends. She had been attending High School regularly in this city the past few years, being a member of the freshman class. In her death we fully and keenly realize the loss to those who knew her best. It is sad indeed when a life so young and promising must be snuffed out in a single moment. Nothing but the thought of the loving hand that has removed her can reconcile them to her absence. While she has gone from the scenes, the conflicts, the sorrows and pleasures of life she will still in the hearts of those who mourn her. She was in her happy teens, the time when youth stands waiting before the half-open door that leads into a fairer and more promising land of dreams and flowers. Her future was full of promise, and we dare not ask why she was taken from us in her prime, unless as flowers are picked before the frost finds them, that we may not witness their decay. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved parents and those who held her memory most dear. May time bring resignation and balm to the wounded hearts and give them that "peace that passeth understanding." "She sleeps where the daisies nod, Where the wild birds come and the wild bees hum, Above her lonely bed. She fought the fight, she kept the faith Her fame shines bright and clear, And her memory lives in all our hearts, Which will hold it ever dear."

Davis, Ory Thomas
Ory Thomas Davis - The Alamosa Daily Courier - September 24, 1945 - O. T. Davis, 86, City Pioneer Dies Saturday - O.T. Davis, 86, well known photographer in Alamosa since the year 1906, died at the Worth Home at 403 Eighth Street at 2:30 p.m. Saturday [September 22]. Recently retired from active life as a photographer, Davis had been in ill health for some time. He was a former U.S. District Commissioner for about 14 years. Davis was born in Decatur County, Iowa, in 1859 and later lived in Nebraska where his father homesteaded, starting a farm with three yoke of oxen and a cow. His mother became one of the first school teachers in the state of Nebraska. As a young man Davis became interested in mining and as a member of a mining company force was sent to Colorado. In this state he and several others of the company operated the Pass Creek and ran a small herd of cattle. Because of dry weather, he gave up the ranch and entered photography in 1888 at Walsenburg. For a number of years Davis worked as a photographer in the coal mine at Hastings. Hearing of an opening in this line of work in Alamosa he came here and started in business above the old American National Bank. He later moved his site to the Emperius building and from there moved to his present location on Fourth Street. Davis reared his nephew, the late Floyd [Sylvester] Davis, and niece, Mrs. Ed Nissen of Mosca at his home here. Floyd Davis, veteran of World War I, died about 20 years ago. His widow, Mrs. Lucienne [Blondeau] Davis, a French war bride, continued to make her home in Alamosa and reared her two sons, George and Charles, here. As Mrs. Henry Gestefield, she now resides in Aurora. She arrived here today to attend the funeral services. She is waiting word from Sgt. Charles J. Davis who is stationed at Muroc, Calif., whether or not he will be able to attend the funeral. Sgt. George J. Davis is located at Assam, India. A cousin, Mrs. Fannie Cage, of Denver also survives. The La Veta Advertiser - October 12, 1945 - Early Day Resident Here Dies at Alamosa - O. T. Davis, early day photographer and miner of La Veta, died last month at the age of 86 at the Worth home in Alamosa. Most of the pictures of La Veta scenes in the early days now highly prized by La Veta residents were taken by Mr. Davis, who operated a business here, some of the time in a tent pitched where the Hall filing station now stands.

Davis, Robert L.
Robert L. Davis - Huerfano World - July 26, 1973 - Robert L. Davis, 62, who served as elementary school principal in La Veta during the two school terms of 1932-33 and 1933-34 died in Colorado Springs, July 10, 1973. He had served District 11, Colorado Springs city schools, in various capacities for many years. In 1939 he was made principal of Steele Elementary School, where he served for 17 years. In 1957 he was promoted to the administration building where he worked in pupil personnel. In 1964 he was named assistant superintendent, a position he held until his death. He received his bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1935 from the University of Northern Colorado. Davis was born Aug. 13, 1910 in Sweet Springs, Mo. He died of a heart ailment. Services were held Friday, July 13, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. He leaves his wife, Martha, a son, Brian, daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Davis, and four grandchildren.

Ruth Estella Davis - Denver Post - August 18, 1992 - Ruth Estella Davis of Firestone, a homemaker, died Saturday at Longmont Community Hospital. She was 82. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Crown Hill Cemetery. She was born July 22, 1910, in Somerset. On July 23, 1926, she married Robert E. Davis, in Walsenburg. He preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Lee, Firestone; four sons, Robert, Arvada, William, Phoenix, Donald and Ronald, both of Firestone; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Davis, Thomas Percy
Thomas Percy Davis - The Independent - June 19, 1931 - Funeral Service for Thomas Percy Davis Tuesday Afternoon - Funeral services for Thomas Percy Davis were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Peter's church on East Fifth street, attended by a large concourse of mourners and friends of the family. After the services at the church procession took its way to the Masonic cemetery where the last rites to a comrade were paid the deceased by the members of the American Legion. Thomas Percy Davis was 36 years of age at the time of his death on Sunday June 14. He was born at Old Rouse in December 1895. He was survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter; by his father and mother; two sisters and one brother.

Davis, William
William Davis – Pueblo Colorado Weekly Chieftain – April 22, 1869 – Died at Pueblo, on the 17th instant, of consumption, Mr. William Davis, aged 28 (23?) years.  The deceased was well known and loved by a large circle of friends.  He had been afflicted with the disease which at last proved fatal, for a period of more than twelve years.  During all that time he was a constant sufferer.  The terrible blow which his death has inflicted upon his friends, was to him simply a relief from untold and patiently endured suffering.

Davis, William H.
William H. Davis – Colorado Public Defender - September 22, 1891 - William H. Davis, Pueblo. W–B&W. Hanging/Broken neck. Davis was convicted, at age twenty-five or twenty-six, of murdering his foster mother, Carrie Armsby (“a light mulatto”), and her alleged white paramour, James Arnold, because they refused to give him money to continue a drinking binge. The time of the execution was not announced before the hanging, and no journalists were invited to attend.

Zandra Faye Davis (Olney-Dotson) – Pueblo Chieftain - January 26, 2006 - Zandra Faye Davis (Olney-Dotson) Born January 17, 1958 passed on January 22, 2006. Survived by her parents, Wesley and Peggy Davis of La Veta, two sons Christopher (Dia) Olney and Nicolas both of Colorado Springs, three brothers Wesley (Jill), Charles (Shelly) both of Florida and Brian (Mary) Davis of Pueblo. Four grandchildren (Caleb, Dylan, Alaura and Todd) and many loving friends and extended family. A memorial service will be Saturday January 28 at 1 p.m. at Springs First Church, 4120 E. Lenore Ann Davis-Holton - Pueblo Chieftain - September 17, 1999 - Lenore Ann Davis-Holton, 53, of Shreveport, La., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, in Shreveport. Lenore attended Pueblo County High School, graduating in 1963. She attended Otero Junior College, graduating in 1965, and then to Southern Colorado State College (USC), graduating in 1967. Lenore worked for several years at Parkview Hospital as a Medical Technician before moving to Shreveport. Survived by her mother, Elizabeth Seamans-Davis of La Junta; son, John E. "Jed" Holton of Shreveport; brother, Ron (Mary Ann) Davis; and nieces, Melissa, Pamela and Nicole Davis, all of La Junta. Preceded in death by her father, La Verne "Doc" Davis. Dorothy Dell Davison - Pueblo Chieftain - December 02, 2003 - Dorothy Dell Davison, 92, passed away Dec. 1, 2003, in Pueblo. Survived by children, Elizabeth Ann Sather of Pueblo, Nancy (Tony) Liberator and Everett Hale (Linda) Davison Jr.; 19 grandchildren, including Cherie Sather and Theo D. Sather (John Rose) of Pueblo, Gordon Lee (Bobbi Jean) Sather of Boone, Colo., and Joanna (Johnnie) Busby of Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; and numerous great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Everett Hale Davison; sons, Artie and William John; and daughter, Dorothy Margaret Savage. Dorothy was born June 29, 1911, and has resided in Colorado since 1942. Funeral service will be held in Denver with interment at Como Cemetery, Como, Colo.

Lavon E. Davison - Pueblo Chieftain - November 09, 2001 - Lavon E. Davison, 79, of Pueblo West, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 8, 2001. Preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Agnes Elvod; and brother, Adrian Elvod. Survived by her daughter, Lynne (Loren) Lucht of Red Wing, Minn.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bryan) Luedeke of Wichita, Kan., Jarrell “Jeb” and Joelle, all of Red Wing, Minn., and special friend, Bill Hill. Lavon became a registered nurse through the Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill., which led her into a lifelong career in nursing. She received the Jubilee of Liberty medal from the D-Day Freedom Fighters after serving as a 2nd Lt. during WWII. Lavon was involved with the Women's Veterans Memorial. She also enjoyed sewing and square dancing. Lavon belonged to the Sons of Norway, various square dancing clubs and the American Legion. Memorial service, 2 p.m. Sunday Nov. 11, 2001, Imperial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Hayes officiating. Military honors to be rendered by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team. Merle E. Davison - Pueblo Chieftain - August 17, 2004 - Merle E. Davison, 58, of Pueblo, went home to be with the Lord Aug. 13, 2004. Born June 19, 1946, in Billings, Mont. Preceded in death by former spouse and good friend, Joan Davison (Van Zandt); father, Rex Davison. Survived by children, Tina (Brent) Cooper, Selina Davison, Nicole (Chris) Kingston and Michael (Myra) Davison; mother, Allie Davison; brothers, Donald Davison and Verle (Cindy) Davison; sister, Alice Davison; grandchildren, Amanda Cooper, Jon Burke, Tara Gurss, Katrina, Ashley, Courtney, Krystal Kingston, Haellie, Adrianna and Michael Davison; also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Merle was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial service, 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Romero Chapel. Relatives and friends will be received at Romero Courtesy Hall after service. Cremation has taken place.
