Cook, Alice Elberta
Alice Elberta Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - March 20, 2005 - Alice Elberta Cook, 87, passed away March 17, 2005. Preceded in death by her husband, Lee Cook. Survived by her sister, Lora Davies; niece, Merlyn; children, Evelyn Cook, Merle (Kitty) Varnell, Sharon Cook; grandchildren, Jean (Joe) Love, Tim Varnell, Todd Varnell Detrick, Trevor (Lori) Varnell, Stephanie Peacock, Jere (Melissa) Schelling, Brandi Varnell, Cheri Cook-Walker, Carl (Terri) Cook; and 17 great-grandchildren. Alice was born Dec. 11, 1917, to Manley and Ruth Coffman. She went to work at CF&I in 1943, retiring in 1974 to care for her mother. Alice was a caring, loving and giving mother. She will be sadly missed by family and friends and her daily companion Misty. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Monday, Imperial Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. In lieu of food and flowers, contributions may be made to the Pueblo Animal Welfare, or the American Cancer Society in her memory.

Cook, Elsie
Elsie Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - November 05, 1997 - Elsie Cook passed away Nov. 3, 1997. Born in Rye, Colo., to Nell (Finlay) and Art Medill on Jan. 16, 1907. She grew up on the family dairy farm and as a child enjoyed riding to Pueblo on the buckboard to help her father deliver butter. She and her brother, John Medill, attended school in Rye until the family moved to Pueblo. A graduate of Central High School, Elsie graduated from Colorado College in 1928. After teaching school for a year, she married Clarence Cook and they continued to reside in Pueblo. Soon they had their only child, a daughter, Marilee (Cook) Torpey. Elsie spent the majority of her years as a loving homemaker and was a fine cook who enjoyed canning and baking. She also enjoyed gardening and raised violets throughout much of her life. A Jehovah's Witness, Elsie enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence Cook (1988). She will be greatly missed by all including her daughter, Marilee (Cook) Torpey, son-in-law, Joe Torpey, grandchildren, Mike Torpey and Melanee Torpey (John McCarthy), sisters-in-law, Eleanor (John) Medill and Lela (Cook) Bower, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service, 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, Adrian Comer Garden Chapel. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. Cook, Hazel R.
Hazel R. Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - July 19, 2005 - Hazel R. Cook. The family of Hazel R. Cook announces her passing in Boulder, Colo., on July 15, 2005. Ms. Cook was born to Levi and Rosa Hardenbrook in Beaver City, Neb., on March 16, 1911. She was a renowned dressmaker and tailor whose work appeared in a national television series. Hazel spent over 80 years in Colorado, she married her love, Robert, in Colorado Springs and they raised their family in Colorado Springs and Pueblo. She spent her later years, still spunky and outspoken, in Thornton. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert; she is survived by sons, Robert (Lois) of Fort Lupton, Edwin of Pueblo West; and daughter, Dr. Patricia Willsey of Thornton. Hazel is also survived by her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Graveside service, 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, in the Mountain View Cemetery in Pueblo. Donations may be made in Hazel's memory to the American Heart Association, or to the National Alzheimer's Association, direct or through the mortuary.

James S. Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - August 04, 1998 - James S. Cook, 94, lifetime Manzanola resident, died Aug. 3, 1998, in Fort Collins. Former employee of J.N. Beaty Bank, bookkeeper of Arnold-Harriman Cattle Company 1936 until 1975. General manager of Arnold Farms more than 50 years, secretary-treasurer Timpas Soil Conservation District 27 years, and treasurer of Valley Water Co. Served as mayor of Manzanola more than 20 years, charter member of Manzanola Lions Club and lifetime member of Christian Church. Services, 11 a.m. Thursday, at Manzanola Christian Church. Visitation at Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. Casket will remain closed at the service. Memorials to American Diabetic Association or to Manzanola First Christian Church in care of the funeral home. Survived by one son, William F. (Marian) Cook of Torrance, Calif., two daughters, Vivian M. (William) McBride of Fort Collins, and H. Rosanne Conley of Canon City, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Genevieve (Herman) Fleming of Pueblo, and LaCleda Silvers of Mount Vernon, Iowa. Burial will be in Manzanola Cemetery.

Jean J. Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - May 09, 1999 - Jean J. Cook, of Pueblo, passed away May 7, 1999. Survived by husband of 52 years, Creighton Don Cook, children, Jeff (Cindy) Cook, Shelly Cook, Kerry Cook, Brian (Susan) Cook. Also survived by mother, Cleo Olerich, grandchildren, Ian, Michael, and Kyla Cook. Mrs. Cook was a member of Christ the King Church and CCW, she also served as a Lector and Eucharist Minister for the church. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Church, followed by inurnment, 2 p.m., at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Rye. In lieu of food and flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church in her memory.

Cook, Leonard F.
Leonard F. Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - December 02, 1998 - Leonard F. Cook passed away Dec. 1, 1998, in Pueblo. He was born in Pueblo on Aug. 27, 1909, and had lived here his entire life. He was a graduate of Centennial High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Leonard was employed by the Crane O'Fallon Plumbing Company. He retired from the Minnequa Bank after 25 years of service and also worked at Pueblo Bank and Trust for several years. He was a member of the Pueblo Divine Science Church and Pueblo Lodge No. 17, AF&AM. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his parents, Clara M. Cook, in 1939, and Charles Cook, in 1962- and his sister, Margaret C. Cook, in 1981. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy V. Cook, of 46 years- and his aunt, Marie H. Carlson of Pueblo. There will be no public viewing or services. Private graveside services will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Earleen Cornell and Rev. Roger L. Hupp officiating. Mrs. Cook respectfully requests the omission of food or flowers.

Mary Jean Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - May 27, 2004 - Mary Jean Cook, a resident of Monument, Colo., born March 24, 1915, in Des Moines, Iowa, to George A. Beaty and Mary A. Rees, passed away May 25, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John C. Cook. Survived by her sons, John C. (Barbara) Cook, Pueblo, Colo., William G. (Patricia) Cook, Aurora, Colo., and Patrick E. (Barbara) Cook, Monument, Colo.; daughter, Barbara J. (William) Rawson, San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cook was a longtime resident of Trinidad prior to moving to Pueblo, Colo., where she taught at East High School and was an assistant English professor at the University of Southern Colorado. Graveside inurnment, 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home for a celebration of Mary's life.

Ruth M. Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - August 27, 2002 - Ruth M. Cook, 80, went to be with the Lord Aug. 24, 2002 in Pueblo, Colo. Born Nov. 20, 1921, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Henry and Rose Jesser, who preceded her along with her son Donald and one brother. Survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Pete Cook; grandson, Darren (Yvonne) Cook; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick and Jennifer; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Cook, William
William "Bill" Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - August 15, 1999 - William "Bill" Cook, 79, passed away Aug. 13, 1999. Survived by his wife, Mildred L. Cook, of the family home- daughter, Lynda (Ray) Cicero of Pueblo-brother, Charles Cook of Arizona- sister, Leta Hewitt of Colorado Springs-grandchildren, Brian Cicero and Andrea Cicero, both of Denver- and special friends, John Wagner and Irene Edwards. Born to Charles and Anna (nee Peschalk) Cook on March 13, 1920, in Gooding, Idaho. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps 285th Bomb Squad during World War II. He started as a radioman in the Army and later owned and operated Bill Cook's TV for over 45years, retiring in 1994. Member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Electronic Technician Association and a life member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 90. At his request, there will be no viewing. Cremation, Crematorium. Funeral will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 1999,at the Chapel, with Pastor Rose Vest officiating. Cook, William Henry
William Henry (Bill) Cook - Pueblo Chieftain - September 16, 2002 - William Henry (Bill) Cook went to be with the Lord on Sept. 14, 2002. He was born in Pueblo, CO. April 24, 1939 to Blanche Horsley Cook and James Raymond Cook. After graduation from Houston High School in Houston MO., he joined the USAF and spent four years in Europe as an MP. After his discharge, he returned to Pueblo and served 31 years on the Pueblo PD. He retired in 1994 as a Sergeant in the traffic division. He was a wonderful husband and extraordinary father, always there for his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and being with his friends and family. He is survived and sadly missed by his wife Sandi, his children; Cheri Walker, Carl (Terri) Cook, Tracy (Mike) Miller, Lisa (Mike) Hed, and Kristina Sandoval; his grandchildren who he loved with all his heart, Niki, Stacey, Jesse, Raymond, Kerrick, Keith, Liam, Ashlee, Alexus, Kaitlyn, Kelsie, Angelique, Alicia and Louie; his mother in law, Verna Philbin, his aunts, Vi Turner and Alma York, several cousins and special friend Ray Marshall and numerous other friends. At his request, cremation and no services. The family will receive visitors Tuesday afternoon, at 323 E. George Dr. Pueblo West CO. Jennie Elizabeth Cooley - Pueblo Chieftain - October 20, 1997 Jennie Elizabeth Cooley passed away Oct. 19, 1997, in Colorado Springs. Jennie was born on May 22, 1901, in Johnstown, Pa., to James and Carrie Bell (Lohr) Morris and came to Pueblo in 1907. She was married in Pueblo on Nov. 28, 1917, to Claude Cooley who preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Cooley was also preceded in death by her children, Freda Day and Floyd Cooley. She is survived by her grandchildren, David Cooley of Pueblo, Ginger (Tom) Brown of Lakewood, Norma (Dan) Kusulas of Colorado Springs, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cooley will lie in state at the mortuary from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Rev. Susan Plymell of Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. She graduated from Cimarron High School, May 1932. Elsie retired from Eckles Department Store after 31 years of service. She is preceded in death by husband of 42 years, Bill Coonce, on July 30, 1986; sister, Cathel Huffman; and nephew, Delvin Huffman. Survived by sisters, Gwendolyn Curtis and Willene Anders; special nieces and nephews, Darlene (Steve) McCrory and Dwayne (Barbara) Huffman; other nieces, Dee (Mark) Reynolds, Debbie (Frank) Wiley and Gale Huffman; and other relatives and friends. Priebnow Cooney Ball; father, Thomas Edward Cooney; four grandparents; brother, Vincent James Cooney; and sister, Glenda Marlene Cooney. Survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Florestine Cooney; daughter, Michelle L. Cooney Meier of Parsons, Kan.; sons, Anthony, Douglas and Thomas Nagy; sisters, Loretta Ball Parsons, Nita Richardson, both of Parsons, Kan., Lois Gabe of Tulsa, Okla., Elaine Myers of Parsons, Kan., Sharon Lewis of Altamont, Kan.; brother, John W. Ball of Cordell, Okla.; grandchildren, Carleigh and Shelby Meier of Parsons, Kan., Christopher, Tosha, Andrew, Michael, Allen, Rita, Christine and Angelo, all of Pueblo, Colo.; and 20 nieces and nephews. Aldon was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring with 22 years and 7 months of service as a track vehicle mechanic with the 63C40 Company. He earned the Air Metal, seven Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Korean Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit. Winston Coons - Pueblo Chieftain - February 14, 2004 - Winston Coons, age 84, passed away Feb. 11, 2004, in Pueblo. He was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Coudersport, Pa., a son of the late Vance and Lottie (Gates) Coons. Winston married Katherine Petrides; she resides at the family home. He also is survived by his children, Lynn (Tom) Kroeger of Pueblo West, Colo., Vance (Dianna) Coons of Syracuse, N.Y., Timothy (Hilde) Coons of Tucson, Ariz., Brian (Terri) Coons of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Cindy (Norm) Shepard of San Diego, Calif., five grandchildren; one sister, Betty Abell; and three brothers, Walter, Clinton and George Soemann, all of Buffalo, N.Y. Winston was a retired cemetery investigator in the State of New York and a veteran from the U.S. Army after serving during World War II. At his request, no services will be held. Mr. Cooper was employed as schedule clerk, seamless mill, CF&I Steel Corp. Member, Lake Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Geraldean E. Jacqueline C. Cooper - Pueblo Chieftain - February 10, 2003 - Jacqueline C. Cooper, 85, passed on February 6, 2003 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband William Cooper, Daughter Abbie (Bob & Casey) Casias, Son Al Turner (Judy, Rebekah, Patti, Mike & Chris). She was and is deeply loved.

Cooper, Jon Jay
Jon Jay "Ricky" Cooper - Huerfano World - May 8, 1986 - Accident Claims 16 Year Old - Funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon for 16-year-old Jon Jay "Ricky" Cooper of Walsenburg. The youth was killed in a single vehicle mishap in Farisita at approximately 3 a.m. Friday, May 2, 1986. The second youth in the accident, 18 year old Gilbert Montoya, Jr. also of Walsenburg, was injured and hospitalized but released on Sunday for the funeral service. According to the State Highway Patrol report, Cooper was traveling south on Highway 69 at the Farisita curve, 19 miles north of Walsenburg, when he lost control of the vehicle which ran off the right side of the roadway. The car collided with two delineator posts and a highway fence, rolled two times and landed on its wheels. Both youths were ejected during the rollover. Although the mishap was reported to have occurred around 3 a.m., the youths were ejected and car were not discovered until about 6:47 am at which time the Cooper youth was pronounced dead. Montoya was taken to Huerfano County hospital for treatment. Sheriff Harold Martinez said Monday that half dozen people have been killed in similar accidents on the Farisita curve in the past four years. Jon Jay Cooper was born August 14, 1969 in Walsenburg to Milson and Primitiva Cooper. He was a sophomore at Walsenburg High School and had been active in all types of athletics. His main interest was in weight lifting and he was an artist. Survivors include his father, in California; his mother; and maternal grandmother Lucia Jacques both of the family home; paternal grandparents, Joe and Gloria Russo of Pennsylvania; one brother, Joey Cooper, Meinz, Germany; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Cremation followed the service with burial in the Gonzales Family Cemetery in Redwing. A benefit fund has been established at the First National Bank in Walsenburg. Those who wish may make contributions at the bank or through the J.M. Antle Funeral Home.

Joseph "Joey" M. Cooper - Pueblo Chieftain - March 05, 2003 - Joseph "Joey" M. Cooper, 36, formerly of Walsenburg, went home to be with the Lord March 3, 2003. Born Oct. 8, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio. Preceded in death by his brother, John (Ricky) Cooper; grandparents, Esequiel and Lucia Gonzales. Survived by his former spouse, Janet Cooper; fiancée, Christine Gonzales; son, Zachary; daughter, Joenet; parents, Milson and Premitiva Cooper. Also survived by numerous special uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Viewing, 3 to 4 p.m. Funeral Service, 4 p.m. Wednesday, both at Romero Chapel. Lois L. Cadwell Cooper - Pueblo Chieftain - July 03, 2005 - Lois L. Cadwell Cooper, 84, born July 29, 1920, passed away June 30, 2005. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cooper. Survived by her son, Charles R. Cadwell, Wichita, Kan.; sisters, V. Lee (Tony) Schmitt, Pueblo; Marilyn (James) Chalaire, Florida, and Carolyn (James) Rayome, Wisconsin; and special nieces, Shirley Jeanne (Pete) Gist, and Lois Collette (Kermit) Spencer. Cooper; and by his four brothers, Dal, Ed, Dale and Fred Cooper. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Arlin (Dana) Cooper, Albuquerque, N.M., Al (Jan) Cooper, Nederland, Colo., and Don (Joyce) Cooper, Anderson, Calif.; and his stepson, Chuck Cadwell of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Audrey (Dick) Allen of Pueblo. Mr. Cooper was a 1932 graduate of the University of Denver Law School and was a member of the bar for 70 years. Private services were held.

Jack A. Coots - Denver Post - August 02, 1995 - Jack A. Coots Golden contractor, 78 - Jack A. Coots of Golden, a contractor, died July 14. He was 78. A service was July 18 at Woods Mortuary Chapel. Interment was in Fort Logan National Cemetery. Coots was born April 10, 1917, in Walsenburg. He served in the Army and worked as a contractor in the home-remodeling industry. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Della Coots; a son, J. Coots, Monroe J.
Monroe J. Coots - Walsenburg World - December 30, 1892 - Died, at 2:30 p. m. on Friday, Dec. 23 Capt. Monroe J. Coots, at the age of 50 years and three months. Deceased was a native of Texas, but moved to this place twenty-two years ago, where he has been engaged in the stock business. He was a man of his word and much respected in the community. In September 1889, a cancer appeared on his lip, which in spite of medical treatment continued its growth causing great suffering. On Sunday the 18th, he was taken worse and confined to his bed, growing weaker till the end came. The immediate cause of death was blood poisoning proceeding from the cancer. He leaves a wife and seven children, one son in school at St. Joseph, Mo. Four have gone before to the spirit world. Mr. Coots' last act was to dictate and sign his will, after which he expressed his willingness to go. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock on Sunday under the conduct of the Masons of which order he had been for a long time an honored and devoted member.

Curtis Cope - Pueblo Chieftain - February 20, 2000 - Curtis Cope, 71, passed away Feb. 17, 2000, after a lengthy illness. He was a retired real estate broker for Commercial Realty. He was a past president and Realtor of the Year of both Pueblo and Colorado Springs Board of Realtors. Mr. Cope was born June 9, 1928, in Canon City to Jesse and Helen Cope, now deceased. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Helen; two daughters, Carol Tekavec of Pueblo and Robin Cope of Oregon; a son, Realtor broker Bob Cope of Colorado Springs; three grandsons, Ty Tekavec, Andy and Kyle Cope; a brother, Stan, of Pueblo; and several nieces and nephews. Cope, 91, of Fowler, Colo., born Dec. 1, 1911, in Woodbury, Tenn., to James B. and Lela Bell Cope and moved to Claude, Texas, as a teenager. He married Annie Mae Hess, Aug. 25, 1934, in Claude, Texas, and they moved to Fowler, Colo., in 1948. Jesse was a longtime rancher and farmer in Texas and the Fowler areas. Owner of Cope's Department and Western Wear in Fowler from 1968 to 1986. Survived by one son, Jimmy (Sally) Cope, Rocky Ford; three daughters, Carolyn (Dick) Weger, White House Station, N.J., Betty (Marvin) Harris, Fowler, Annetta Kirchner, Fairburn, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Cope; daughter, Sue Diefenbach, East Aurora, N.Y., daughter-in-law, Janice Cope; parents, three brothers and three sisters. Cope of the family home; children, Frank (Rebecca) Cope of Pueblo and Don Cope; brothers, Robert (Joy) Hustead of Wichita, Kan., and Donald (Jeanne) Hustead of Pueblo; grandchildren, Grant, Preston, Chase and Moriyah Cope; numerous nieces and nephews. Born Jan. 7, 1930, in Pueblo and was a lifelong resident. Kay and Stan owned and operated Cope Office Supply and were involved in the community. She was a member of Pueblo Chapter No. 7, OES, DAR, PEO Chapter AU, Junior League and Service League. There will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Windsor officiating. Betty Elaine Roll Copeland - Pueblo Chieftain - December 22, 2002 - Betty Elaine Roll Copeland passed away Dec. 19, 2002. Betty was born on her grandparents' farm in Grant Township, Clay County, Kan., on Dec. 18, 1931, the second daughter of Albert and Alice Bullimore Roll. She attended Deweyville and Lower Lincoln Schools and graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1949. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper in the People's National Bank in Clay Center, Kan. In 1956, she moved to Pueblo, Colo., where she held a number of jobs and eventually retired as Office Manager of the St. Charles Mesa Water District after 31 years of service. Mrs. Copeland is survived by her son, Gregory (Annette); daughter, Shawn (John) Adams, both of Pueblo; sisters, Margery (Clarence) Urban of Morganville, Kan., and Helen Marie Hileman of Pueblo; her grandchildren, Angela, Rhiannon, Johnnie, Lucas, and Eric; her first great-grandchild, Calvin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved Yorkies, Rusty and Nickie. Cremation in the Davis Crematory. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1145 Aspen Road.

Carole was born in Quebec, Canada, on Dec. 30, 1952, and has lived in Pueblo West since 1993. Carole was employed as a co-owner of Absolute Manufacturing in Pueblo. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerard Mailhot; and a great friend, Greg Libassi. She is survived by her husband, Jim Copeland of Pueblo West; her mother, Yvette Mailhot of California; her brothers, Gui Mailhot of Canada and Richard Mailhot of California; nephew, Jason; and nieces, Alexandra and Audrey Mailhot; four aunts, Martha Rutherford, Lance Hamil, Maryanne Leduc and Juliette Guay; stepsons, Darren Copeland and Brian Copeland, both of California; and special friends, Marie Vigil, Luella Libassi and Robert Tschida. Nelta Earline Copeland - Pueblo Chieftain - February 23, 2002 - Age 90, of Greeley, formerly a resident of Pueblo for 40 years, died Feb. 20, 2002, in Greeley. Private graveside service, Feb. 25, 2002, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colo. Cremation has taken place. Mrs. Copeland was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Greeley. She married Elmer Wesley Copeland in 1954 in Denver. She was retired as a 30-year employee of the Colorado Department of Revenue. She graduated from Pueblo Centennial High School in 1928. She was a founding member of the Central Christian Church in Pueblo, member of Central Christian Church in Denver. Survivors include a niece, Julia Ogden of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephews, Gregory Chostner of Eaton, and Jeff Chostner of Pueblo. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Vera J. Chostner; and a brother, Linley Cates.

Syble Rae Ashburn Copeland - Huerfano World - April 3, 2003 - Graveside services for Syble Rae Ashburn Copeland, 88, mother and grandmother, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lindale City Cemetery in Lindale, TX, under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors with Rev. Gale Galloway officiating. She passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 in Walsenburg after a prolonged illness. Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles (Kilroy) Copeland, she was the eldest of five children born to Archie Ashburn and Ernie Scarborough of Waurika, OK. Survivors include her two sons, Robert (Bob), of Waurika, OK, and John (JC) of Littleton; four grandchildren, Celena Copeland Valdez and Erica Copeland, of Albuquerque, NM, Jason Copeland, of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and Bridgette Copeland, of Houston, TX. Syble graduated valedictorian from Coleman High School, Coleman, TX. She resided in Truth or Consequences, NM, from 1953-1969, Waurika, OK, from 1928-2001, and the last two years in the capable hands of Walsenburg Care Center, Walsenburg. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people who took such good care of her and loved her at Walsenburg Care Center. Her career included service with the INS, the IRS, the FAA, and the chamber of commerce. She enjoyed traveling and was always looking forward to her next trip or destination. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her. Her final destination will be next to her husband in Lindale City Cemetery, Lindale, TX, his home. Mary Ann Coppa - Cañon City Daily Record - April 12, 2006 - Mary Ann Coppa 82, died April 7, 2006, in Cañon City. She was born on April 24, 1923, in Trinidad, to Lou Wade Hampton and Sara May Blair. She married Albino J. Coppa on Aug. 9, 1941, in Raton, N.M. She was a homemaker and worked at the St. Cloud Hotel for many years. Mrs. Coppa was Southern Baptist by faith and a member of the DAV Auxiliary. She is survived by husband; children, Albina Marie Cline of Denver, Barbara (David) Fawcett of Cañon City and Robert Wayne (Susan) Coppa of Kearns, Utah; brothers-in-law, Fred (Sheila) Coppa of Cañon City and Jim (Joan) Coppa of Cañon City; sister-in-law and friend, Emma Bankin of Cañon City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Coppedge, John A. Sr.
John A. Coppedge Sr. - Pueblo Chieftain - July 03, 2005 - John A. Coppedge Sr., departed this life on June 30, 2005, in Pueblo. John was born Dec. 18, 1940, in Las Animas, Colo. He worked for Sears, Fountain Sand & Gravel, and Boulder Community Hospital. John graduated from Lamar Junior College, and Southern Colorado State College, with degrees in business administration, public relations and mass communications. He also graduated from the University of Phoenix with a master's in business administration. John also served in the U.S. Army. He was active in various professional organizations while working as a credit manager. He also was active in the Colorado State Jaycees and served in various positions including State Speak-Up/Leadership in Action chairman. He was preceded in death by his father, William Coppedge. Survived by his mother, Dessie Coppedge; children, John Jr., Christopher, Brian and Stefanie, all of Denver; and numerous grandchildren. At his request, cremation with a memorial service to be held, 2 p.m. Thursday, George McCarthy Historic Chapel, with military honors by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team.
