Bessire, Helen
Miss Helen Bessire – Walsenburg World – September 9, 1938 – Death Car Driver is Held for Trial – Glenwood Springs, September 8. Miss Helen Bessire, 29, of Rifle, Colo., died Thursday of a punctured lung and other internal injuries suffered Tuesday night when an automobile in which she rose crashed into a motor truck west of Glenwood Springs. District Attorney Frank Delaney said George W. Cox of Grand Junction, driver of the car in which Miss Bessire was a passenger, would be charged with causing her death by driving his car in a reckless manner and while under the influence of intoxicants. Arraigned in justice court Wednesday, Cox pleaded innocent and was bound over to district court under $1,000 bond. Hortense Sutton, 18, of Rifle and James Grout of Grand Junction, other passengers in the car, were seriously injured.

Best, George
George Best - Pueblo Chieftain - February 02, 2000 - George Best, 72, formerly of Salida, was born in Wright County, Iowa on Nov. 15, 1927. He was a resident of Colorado since 1975 and passed away Jan. 30, 2000, at his home in Panama City, Fla. George and his family moved to San Isabel Scout Ranch and built their home and lived for 13 years. George worked as the camp ranger and camp director, touching the lives of thousands of Scouts and Scouters from all over the United States. George was a firm believer that Scouting was the best youth program in the world. He spent over 50 years devoting his time and efforts to the program. George was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, the District Award of Merit and numerous other Scouting awards. George was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, always offering support for all of the family. George will be greatly missed. In Salida, George and Corinne managed the Ranch House Motel and then the Mariposa and Plaza Apartments. George served on the Boy Scout Troop 60 Committee, the Salida Recreation Inc. board and on the Boy Scout District Committee. George loved camping, hunting and reading. George and his wife Corinne moved to Panama City, Fla., in August 1996. George is survived by his wife, Corinne, Panama City, Fla.; daughters, Tracy (Dave) Calloway, Oveida, Fla., and Cassandra (Ron) Spiegleman, Panama City; sons, Michael (Susie) Best, Littleton, and Steve (Tonie) Best, Salida. George is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric Best, Denver, Ty Best, Salida, Jared Best, Greeley, Leya, Daniel and Hannah Spiegleman, Panama City, Fla., and Kadi, Michelle and Jacob Calloway, Oveida, Fla. Mike and Susie Best are expecting their firstborn in February. It was George's wish to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Rocky Mountain Council, Box 3292, Pueblo, Colo., 81005. Cards for Corinne can be sent to 1538-A Doty Circle, Panama City, Fla., 32404. A celebration of his life will be held at San Isabel at a later date to be announced. Clara A. Betase - Sacramento Bee - October 14, 2004 - Clara A. Betase of North Sacramento, CA October 4, 2004. Preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in October 1990. Loved mother of Frank Betase, mother-in-law of Wenona Betase, grandmother of Shirley Betase Watson and Michael Betase, Jr. Great-grandmother of Christopher and John and great-great-grandmother of Hailey and Hannah. Clara was born in Trinidad, Colorado, where she grew up, attended Catholic Holy Trinity Schools, she loved sports, especially basketball. She moved to the Sacramento area in 1941 & in those early years she worked for Breuners and Del Monte Cannery. She was retired from McClellan Air Force Base as a Procurement Officer after 27 years of service. Recitation of the Rosary was held at the Nightingale-Gilmore Funeral Chapel last Thursday, October 7. Interment was made in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. St. Joseph Catholic Church, Officiating.

Helen J. Bethke - Pueblo Chieftain - March 11, 1999 Helen J. - Bethke, born Jan. 9, 1908, went to be with her savior on Tuesday, March 9, 1999. She was preceded in death by beloved husband, George J. Bethke. Survived by brother, Earl (Katherine) Henry of Milwaukee, Wis. - son, Ret. Gen. Gerald H. (Phyl) Bethke of San Antonio, Texas- daughters, Joanna M. Hanson of Auburn, Wash., and Jeanne E. (Courtney) Graves of Pueblo West- nine grandchildren- and 12 great-grandchildren. Helen devoted her life to others. She was active in her home church in Milwaukee where she taught many years of Sunday school, led the youth group and sang in the church choir. She moved to Pueblo in 1982 and was a member of the Belmont Church of the Nazarene. Helen's wisdom, charm and faith were a source of inspiration to many. Service will be held on Friday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at the T.G. McCarthy Chapel, 329Goodnight Avenue. Betlack, Jesse
Jesse Betlack - Pueblo Chieftain - November 10, 2006 - Bicyclist in fatal crash identified - Authorities have released the name of a bicyclist killed when he was struck by a car Wednesday north of town. State Patrol Cpl. Mike Hargrove said 63-year-old Jesse Betlack of La Junta died from injuries suffered when his bicycle was struck from behind by a vehicle on Colorado 109 about four miles north of town. According to a patrol report, the accident happened at about 5:30 a.m. near La Junta's Industrial Park. Betlack was traveling north in the right lane when he was struck by a car driven by Michael Maestas, 29, of Rocky Ford. Betlack was thrown into the air and was struck by the windshield of Maestas' vehicle before falling to the roadway. Betlack was pronounced dead at the scene by Otero County Coroner Bob Fowler. He was not wearing a helmet. Maestas was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported. Hargrove said it took a while to find Betlack's next of kin because they live out of state. "We got a hold of his son who lives in Virginia - he (Betlack) was kind of a loner type so it was hard to find much information about him," Hargrove said. Hargrove said it appears that alcohol was not involved in the accident and an investigation is ongoing. He said no charges have been filed.

Esther E. Bettis - Pueblo Chieftain - September 18, 1997 - Esther E. Bettis, a former Pueblo resident, departed this life Sept. 2, 1997, in Indianapolis, Ind. She was a retired supervisor for U.S. Government Department of Defense. She graduated from Central High School in 1937, also from Pueblo Junior College. Preceded in death by her parents, Andrew J. and Aurelia (Edwards) Bettis- a sister, Teresa Bettis- two brothers, Theophilus Bettis and Andrew Bettis. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Juanita Johnson, Pueblo, and Beatrice Kennedy, Fairfield, Calif.- three nieces, Anne Ndiave, Newark, N.J., Lindia Bettis, Silver Springs, Md., and Teresa Tersy, West Orange, N.J.- two nephews, William A. Johnson III and Mark J. Kennedy, both of California- three grandnieces- six grandnephews- and other relatives and friends. , 1 p.m. Friday, Angelus Chapel, Rev. A. Charles Langston officiating. Karol Kaye Betts - Pueblo Chieftain - April 13, 2005 - Karol Kaye Betts, 61, passed away April 10, 2005. Survived by her children, Brian Betts, Kim (John) Warren and Michael Betts; sisters, Glenda Mikita and Bonnie Spoden; grandchildren, Brandi, John and Steven Warren, Renden and Riley Sanchez, all of Pueblo; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Bernard Chingway. Karol was born Sept. 27, 1943, in Pueblo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a tender heart for animals. At her request, there will be no viewing or services. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium.

Ronald Lee Betz – Pueblo Chieftain – October 18, 2006 - Ronald Lee Betz, 82, of Pueblo, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 15, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean (Mendenhall); and children, Linda (Chuck) Yoos, Ron (Kay) Betz, Audrey (Gil) McGregor and Rick (Anita) Betz; brothers, Wilbur (Joan) Betz and Merle (Nell) Betz; sister-in-law, Louise Organ; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ronald retired from the Pueblo Army Depot. He also was an active member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving his Lord in many areas. Memorial service, 3 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church, Ninth and Grand. Donations may be made in memory of Ronald to the Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.

Livia A. Beuchat - Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home – April 5, 2004 - Livia A. Beuchat, 94, died April 2, 2004 in Trinidad. She was born December 4, 1909 in Berwind, Colo. to Angelo Toller Montenaga De Pine and Josephine Sitton Canzilino, both of Trento, Austria. She graduated from Berwind Canyon High School in 1928. She attended Trinidad State Junior College for one year. She attended summer school at the Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley. She was a school teacher at Bear Canyon Elementary School for 16 years. She was a mine clerk for Bear Canyon Coal Company until the mine closed. She was the Postmaster at Vallorso, Colo. for seven years. She worked at Colorado Foods at Jansen for one year. She worked at Trinidad Power and Light office for five years. She volunteered teaching crafts at the senior center for 40 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Beuchat. She is survived by her daughter Dolores Martin, Golden; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many cousins. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 6, 2004 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. A rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 7 at 9 a.m. at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Gene Renard S.J. officiating. Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Crichton, Tony Massarotti, Joe Micheli, Rudy Zuech, Joe Bilotti and Mike Martin. Beurman; and her daughter, Millie Heuett. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Rose) Beurman and Albert Beurman, all of Pueblo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Dora Varnado Bevil - Pueblo Chieftain - September 24, 2004 - Dora Varnado Bevil, Born Feb. 29, 1904 in Ducett, Texas. Peacefully passed away on Sept. 22, 2004 at the age of 100. Preceded in death by her first husband John Varnado and second husband Andrew Bevil, along with her four loving sisters. She leaves her two daughters Imogene (O.D. Parsons) and Bonnie (Jim Riley), four Grandchildren, ten Great Grandchildren, and two Great Great Grandchildren. Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Imperial Funeral Home. Burial service will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Dayton, Texas.

Bewley, Ervin L.
Ervin L. Bewley - Pueblo Chieftain - August 14, 2003 - Ervin L. Bewley, 82, passed away Aug. 11, 2003. Born Dec. 7, 1920, in Vilas, Colo., to William L. and Zeddie Scobee Bewley who preceded him in death along with his brother, Archie; and son, Gary L. Bewley. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois Humphrey Bewley; sons, Jim (Martha) of Pueblo, Bill of Pueblo; daughters, Kay of Pueblo, and Bonnie of Diamond Bar, Calif.; grandson, Mitchell (Lori) of Pueblo; great-grandchildren, Jason, Jacob and Brooke; brother, Loyd of Pueblo West; sister, Wilma Heuett of Pueblo; and other relatives. Ervin has been a Pueblo resident since 1926. He served in the U.S. Army 542nd Engineer Division from Jan. 1945 to June 1946. Ervin retired from CF&I Coke Plant as foreman after 26 years of service. Ervin enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends. He also was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar with his brothers. Ervin enjoyed his church family at Southwest Church of Christ where he was a member. Viewing, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, at Imperial Funeral Home. Lois Marie Bewley - Pueblo Chieftain - May 04, 2005 - Lois Marie Bewley, 87, passed away April 30, 2005. Born Aug. 19, 1917, in Oxley, Mo., to James I. and Jettie Humphrey, who preceded her in death, along with her loving husband, Ervin; and son, Gary; brothers, Paul, Hartford and Bob; and sister, Maudie Mae. Survived by daughters, Kay and Bonnie; sons, Jim (Martha) and Bill; grandson, Mitch (Lori); great-grandchildren, Jason, Jacob, Brooke and Mitchell; sisters, Jane (Loren) Kenser and Jimmie Mae (Glen) Rideout; brother, Herman Harris; sister-in-law, Wilma Heuett; and brother-in-law, Loyd (Pat) Bewley. She had a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends whom she loved very much. Lois had lived in Fairdealing, Mo., where her family had a farm, before moving to Pueblo to join her beloved brother, Paul. She especially enjoyed traveling, camping and family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members. She enjoyed baking, cooking, puzzles, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family, friends and neighbors. Lois enjoyed her church family at Southwest Church of Christ, where she was a longtime member. Viewing, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, and funeral service, 11 a.m. Friday; both at Imperial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. Bewley, Pat Shumaker
Pat Shumaker Bewley - Pueblo Chieftain - June 11, 2006 - Pat Shumaker Bewley, 75, passed away June 5, 2006. Survived by her husband, Loyd Bewley; children, Betty (Sam) Pannunzio, Carol (Jim) De Isla; grandchildren, Samuel A., Stacy and Leslie Pannunzio; great-grandson, Phillip Pannunzio; brother, Charles Hackworth; nephew, Lance Hackworth; stepdaughters, Linda (Charles) Cochran, Zetta (Roy) Denno, Sue (Doug) Barton; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and her loving dog, "Tippy." Preceded in death by her first husband, Robert W. Shumaker; and infant sister, Betty Lou Hackworth. Pat was a longtime member of Southwest Church of Christ. Bezona, Paul Gerald
Paul Gerald Bezona - Pueblo Chieftain - September 13, 2005 - Paul Gerald Bezona died Sept. 11, 2005, following a battle with cancer. He was 81. Bezona was born in Casper, Wyo., on Sept. 10, 1924, the second child of 10 born to Otto E. and Ida Rebecca Bezona. He grew up on the family homestead in Granada, Colo., fostering an interest in horses while helping his family with a wheat and cattle operation. He was a 1943 graduate of Granada High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a radio man/tailgunner. While stationed in Florida, he started a lifelong fascination with music and taught himself to play the guitar and several other stringed instruments. On Dec. 17, 1948, he married Mary Ilene Pearson in Raton, N.M. The couple continued residence in Granada, where two daughters, Tecla and Teala, were born. The couple then moved to Pinon, Colo., where he was employed at the Pueblo Ordinance Depot and then eventually as a ranch hand and horse trainer for the Phelps Ranch. Bezona was a key motivator in the creation of the Pinon Saddle Club. He competed at the local rodeos in various events, with a special fondness for calf roping. The couple then laid roots in Pueblo on Highway 78 where two more daughters, Talca and Tonya, were born and where they lived for 22 years. During this time, Bezona continued his affiliation with animals and bred, trained and sold horses. He also continued his interest in music and when his daughters shared this interest, they formed a band. With the name of Paul and the Three T's, the band played area dances and occasions in the 1960s and '70s. Bezona retired from the CF&I Steel Corp., ending a 30-year career in which he worked in the boiler shop. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the CF&I Old Timers Organization and the Eagles Lodge No. 145. He was a previous member of the Minnequa University Club and was an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto E. and Ida Rebecca Bezona; brothers, Scott E., Richard E. (Joyce) and C. Dean. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary I. Bezona; daughters, Tecla D. (Ernie) Chamblin, Teala D. Bezona (Tony), Talca D. (George) Woods, Tonya D. (Tony) Pinelle; grandchildren, Paulette (Shayne) O. Hotto, Clint (Kris) Chamblin, Georgette (David) Book, Brandie Bezona, Shanalee McGhee, Tarah (Jim) Damgaard, Nicki Pinelle, Chris Pinelle; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Alfred A., Boyd D. (Norma Jean), Roy Lee (Judy); sisters, Lois I. Wieman, Lola L. Brooks, Betty L. (Jesse) Melton; sisters-in-law, Lois A. Bezona and C. Jeanne Bezona, and their families. Paul will be remembered as a generous, hard-working, loving father, husband and family man as well as a kind friend. Viewing, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Beulah Dean Bibby - Pueblo Chieftain - July 2, 2004 - Beulah Dean Bibby, 77, departed this life and went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2004. She was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Luther, Okla., to the union of Alvin and Matilda Duffey Sr. She is survived by her husband; 2 children; grandchildren; sister; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family. Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ina Duffey and Alvin Duffey Jr.; a sister, Edith Duffey Edwards. To her family, Beulah was a very strong, loving, kind and generous person, and will be missed. Visitation, noon to 7 p.m. today. Charles Raymond Biby - Pueblo Chieftain - September 1988 - Charles Raymond Biby passed away at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital Tuesday evening Sept. 19, 1988, after a long illness.  He was born in Grant County, Okla., Nov. 26, 1911, to Charles W. and Sarah Biby.  Survived by his wife Mabel of the family home; his children, Phillis (Gary) Caffee; Charles R. Biby and Linda (Herbert) Romero, all of Pueblo; seven grandchildren and one great- granddaughter.  Also survived by brothers, Roscoe (Vivian) Biby; of Fulton, MO; Glee (Juanita) Biby of Pueblo West; sisters, Lena Schmitz, Medford, Okla.; Nancy (Ernest) Earle, Nevada, MO; Enid Utley of McMinnville, Ore. and Anna (Robert) Leffler, Pueblo; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by twin infants; parents; a grandson; three brothers; Harry, Glenn and Wayne; and a sister, Lola Wiggs.  He was baptized in the Christian Church as a child. Biby was a carpenter in Pueblo for many years, retiring in 1976.  He bowled for many years and loved to fish and hunt.  Services 1 p.m. Friday.  George McCarthy Historic Chapel with Chaplain Don Thurn, St. Mary-Corwin Hospital officiating.  Internment, Mt. Clarence E. Biby - Pueblo Chieftain - July 11, 2006 - Clarence E. Biby, passed away July 7, 2006, in Pueblo. Clarence was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Sand Creek, Okla., one of nine children to Glen and Tula Biby. He was employed as a meat cutter for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, camping, his trips to Cripple Creek and he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia; son, David (Laurie) Biby; daughters, Sharon (Bill) Santilli, Cathy Chain; grandchildren, Mike (Kim), Kenneth (Donna), John (Patti), Donna, Lorrie, Sarah and Amie; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald Biby; and sisters, Ellen Amidon, Susan (Paul) Urenda and Shirley (Dale) Lough, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation for Mr. Biby will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Davis Memorial Chapel. Edward Biby - Pueblo Chieftain June 24, 1924 - Edward Biby, aged 57 years, a resident of Pueblo for the past twenty-four years, and a watchman at the steel works, died at a local hospital early Tuesday morning.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Biby, one son, Frank Biby, one daughter Mrs. J. M. Berta, and one grandson, Leroy D. Masterson, all residing at the family home: 2519 Cedar Street; one brother, A. J. Marion Andrew Biby - Pueblo Chieftain - July 20, 1922 - Marion Andrew Biby, age 7 years died at the family home, 1706 West Eighteenth Street, Thursday morning.  He is survived by his father and mother, Mr. & Mrs. A. J. Biby, three brothers, Howard, Edward and Waldy; three sisters, Frances, Gertrude and Mable. He was a grandson of the late F. M. Berry of Beulah. Body is being cared for by the United Davis-Vories undertaking company. Funeral announcements will be made later.  The funeral of Marion Andrew Biby took place Monday afternoon at 2:00 Friday at the Irving Place Church of Christ.  Rev. Thos. P. Carey conducted the services.  Mrs. G. G. Fletcher, Mrs. C. Merritt, Mrs. J. E. Hicox, Mrs. A. E. Brechenridge and Mrs. E. Morris accompanied by Mrs. C. Morris sang "Precious Jewels" "Beautiful Isle" and "Home of the Soul".  The pall bearers were Kenneth Gravatt, Alpheus Eddy, Arthur Riley and Carl McGee.  The flower bearers were Mary Eddy, Minerva Brown, Rebecca Fairchild And Jesse Theilbar.  Internment was made in Mountain View Cemetery.

Nicole Terese Biby - Pueblo Chieftain - August 23, 1999 - Nicole Terese Biby, 15, of Rocky Ford, died peacefully at her home on Aug. 21, 1999. For twelve months Nicole had courageously fought cancer. Her suffering brought her closer to God. Nicole was born to Ronald and Patricia Biby on July23, 1984, in Pueblo. She was a student at Rocky Ford High School. She was a member of the class of 2003. Nicole was thoughtful and generous, a loving daughter and faithful friend. The lives she touched have been enriched by her presence. Nicole is survived by her mother, Patricia Biby, of the family home-her grandparents, Ray and Nancy Lutz of Pueblo, and Don Biby of Pueblo- aunts and uncles include, Kathy (Steve) Bergs of South Africa, Bob (Tamara) Lutz of Englewood, Dan (Susy) Lutz of Ft. She is also survived by her best friend, Erica Hutton- cousins- and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Michael Jon Biehn – Huerfano World – April 13, 2006 – Michael Jon Biehn was born in Mankato, Minnesota on January 17, 1952 at St. Joseph's Hospital and passed away peacefully at his home in Pueblo, on March 29, 2006 at 11:15 a.m. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1970. He served in the U. S. Army in 1972. He moved to Pueblo in 1978, because he loved the mountains. He was employed at Overhead Door for several years and recently for DNL garage door with Lance Guarenti, his boss, best friend and confidant. He would like his favorite sister-in-law Lori to know he'll miss her as our favorite roommate. He was preceded in death by his father, Burdette “Babe” Biehn; his grandmother, Wallburga Beer; and his sister, Marion Douglas. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Betty Ann Cruz; his mother, Grace Beer-Biehn; his only daughter, Angela Biehn-Stone; son-in-law, Timothy Stone; step-daughter, Angela Dawn (Scott) Reed; step-son, Paul Wayne Cruz; grandchildren, Brandon, Brianne and Tyler Stone and Noelle and Ryan Reed; siblings, Sonny and Dawn Biehn, Phyllis and Les Sneider, Gary Biehn, Jim Bob and Karen Biehn. “Rat” was famous for his green Chili and he looked forward to Sundays, when he could play golf with the boys. Claudine Bieser - Pueblo Chieftain - November 19, 2006 - Leap kills man, 94; woman who drank gasoline, 55, dies - The county coroner lists both deaths as suicides - A 94-year-old man fell to his death Saturday from a third-story window of his assisted-living center, and a 55-year-old woman in a separate case died after publicly drinking gasoline last week, according to officials. The Pueblo County Coroner's office reported both deaths as suicides. At 6:35 a.m. Kenneth Bert Wiley was pronounced dead at the scene of Alterra Wynwood, 4723 Surfwood Ave., according to Coroner James Kramer. Wiley had been living there since April. According to police, Wiley had told his family, "no one should live this long." Wiley fell after he used a pocket knife to cut and remove the screen from a hall window on the third floor, according to a report by Cpl. Gilbert Ladrini of the Pueblo Police Department. A Community Organization for Victims Assistance was called to help those who witnessed the scene. Claudine Bieser died at 12:55 p.m. at Parkview Medical Center. Kramer said she died of a "combination of gas ingestion and respiratory and renal failure." On Wednesday Bieser bought almost a gallon of gas from Loaf 'N Jug on Fourth Street and Abriendo Avenue, and then walked to the intersection of Carlile Place and Wilson Avenue, where residents watched in disbelief as she began drinking the gas. She had been a resident of the adult assisted-living center Golden Gate Manor, 606 W. Abriendo Ave.

Leo A. Bigelow - Huerfano World - May 11, 2000 - Leo A. Bigelow, 69, of Walsenburg, died May 6, 2000. He recently resigned as City of Walsenburg Building Inspector, because of ill health. Mr. Bigelow was born in Wichita, Kansas, January 12, 1931. He married Marilyn Curry in 1953. He was a retired aerospace engineer with Martin Marietta and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the family home in Walsenburg; three children, Tim Bigelow, England, Cindi Byrns, Tucson, Arizona, and Amy Blanchard, Larkspur; a sister, Jen Avis, Thornton and six grandchildren. Marshall David "Davey" Biggar - Pueblo Chieftain - November 07, 1998 - Marshall David "Davey" Biggar, 31, passed away Nov. 5, 1998, at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital. A lifetime Puebloan, Davey was a Christmas baby, born Dec. 25, 1966. He graduated from Pueblo County High School, the class of 1985. He was employed as a CNA at University Care Center of Pueblo. Davey enjoyed working with and helping the elderly. There's a wealth of knowledge to be learned from my senior citizens," Davey would say. He liked working with children also, and loved all types of music. Darryl W. Biggerstaff - Pueblo Chieftain - May 12, 2005 - Darryl W. Biggerstaff, 66, died unexpectedly on May 5, 2005. He was born on April 27, 1939, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a former chairman of the board at Centennial Bank in Pueblo. Public memorial service, 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the gymnasium at Ca–on City High School. Biggi, Bruno F.
Bruno Biggi - Pueblo Chieftain - May 13, 2002 - Bruno Biggi, (great son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great man!) on May 10, 2002, was welcomed into the afterlife by his late wife, Pettrina Biggi; his parents, Mateo and Maria Biggi; and daughter, Debbie Biggi. He lived from Nov. 9, 1916, to May 10, 2002. He carried a lunchbox to the Colorado Fuel and Iron Corporation for 49 years and wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved his wife, children, family, fishing, cartooning and football. He will be sadly missed by all, including children, Patrice Biggi and Bruce Biggi; grandchildren, Benjamin and Mason Biggi; sister, Rita Kochevar (Richard); and nephew, Denis Kochevar; and closest nieces, Jennifer Cortner and Cynthia Renier, among many other nieces and nephews, family and friends. Pettrina (Pat) D. Biggi - Pueblo Chieftain - May 06, 2000 - Pettrina (Pat) D. Biggi, passed away May 4, 2000. Family and friends will celebrate the ascension of Pettrina DeSalvo Biggi into heaven at a rosary, Sunday, May 7, 2000, at 7:30 p.m. and Mass, Monday, May 8, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Therese. Pettrina, a lifelong Pueblo resident and retired after years of service, was known as a valued federal employee, a good wife and mother, a trusted friend and an accomplished seamstress. Her love for life, flowers, gardening and friends, respect for fairness, accuracy and education, and sense of style characterize her most vividly. She will be greeted at the gates of Heaven by her father, Carl, and her mother, Josephine DeSalvo; sister, Frances Taravella, and her brothers, Russell, Anthony, Ciro and Joe DeSalvo. She sadly will be missed by those who remain: her loving husband, Bruno Biggi; her children, Bruce and Patrice Biggi; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Kathol; grandsons, Benjamin and Mason Biggi; and sister-in-law, Rita (Richard) Kochevar. Surviving sisters, Lucille (Nick) Tizarelli, Angel Hensal and Helen (Carl) Stuka; 20 nieces and nephews, including her two closest, Jennifer Cortner and Cynthia (Jim) Renier, and her many friends weep at her loss.

Biggs, Franklin W.
Franklin W. Biggs – Albuquerque Journal - January 21, 2002 - Franklin W. Biggs, 82, died on January 19, 2002 in Albuquerque. He was born on July 31, 1919 in Fort Morgan Colorado. He lived most of his life in Pueblo, Colorado, attending Hinsdale School and Centennial High School. He worked for over 40 years at the C.F.&I. Steel Corporation until retiring in 1983. While working at the C.F.&I., he also worked part-time as a freight solicitor for several Pueblo trucking companies including Thacker Brothers. In 1987, he and his wife, Marianne, moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked for Montgomery Wards and Sam's Club until retiring in 2000. Throughout his life, Frank was a self-employed, highly skilled general handyman performing work as a carpenter, electrician, plumber and painter. A World War II veteran, Frank served in the 96th Division of the Army as a combat infantryman, fighting in both Okinawa and the Philippines. Frank married Marianne Ryan on September 8, 1939 in Pueblo and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Frank is survived by his wife, three children, and five grandchildren. His son, Stanley, lives in Storrs, Connecticut with his wife Patricia. They have two sons, Christopher and Kerry, both of whom live in Connecticut with their wives, Kerry and Tanya. His son, Robert, lives in Lone Tree, Colorado with his wife Beth. They have two sons, Kyle and Nathan, both living in Colorado. His daughter, Kimberley, lives in Albuquerque with her son Robbie. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at 8:30 a.m. at French Mortuary - Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, New Mexico Affiliate, P.O. Box 90790, 87199. His wife and family will sadly miss him.

Marianne Biggs - Albuquerque Journal – May 19, 2006 - Marianne Biggs, 86, died on May 17, 2006 in Albuquerque. She was born on October 11, 1919 in Weston, WV. She lived most of her life in Pueblo, CO, attending Thatcher Elementary School and Centennial High School. She worked as a telephone operator until the dial system was implemented and later became a Realtor. Marianne and her husband Frank moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1980 to help care for her grandson. Marianne Ryan married Frank Biggs on September 8, 1939 in Pueblo, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Frank preceded Marianne in death on January 19, 2002. Marianne is survived by three children and five grandchildren. Her son, Stanley, lives in Storrs, CT with his wife, Patricia. They have two sons, Christopher and Kerry, both of whom live in Connecticut with their wives, Kerry and Tanya. Her son, Robert, lives in Lone Tree, CO with his wife, Beth. They have two sons, Kyle and Nathan, both living in Colorado. Her daughter, Kimberley Pierce, lives in Albuquerque with her husband, Ed and son, Robbie Biggs. Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel. Friends and family may visit French Mortuary on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Service. Interment will take place on Monday, May 22, 2006 at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. James Carl "Jimbo" Bigley - Pueblo Chieftain - May 11, 2002 - James Carl "Jimbo" Bigley, 45, passed away May 9, 2002, in Rye, Colo. He is survived by his daughter, Megan Bigley of Rye; son, Jedidiah Bigley of Pueblo; common-law wife, Christina Stilson; siblings, Judith Lee Bigley, Gary Joel (Barbara) Bigley of Pueblo, Kenneth Charles Bigley, Donald Glenn (Nancy Jeanne) Bigley, both of Rock Springs, Wyo., and William Edwin Bigley; and special friend, Kent, of Denver; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, James Clifford and Alice Lee Bigley; and grandfather, Frank Beebe. Born on Sept. 18, 1956, in Pueblo. Jimbo loved life, his family, his friends, and his Harley Davidson. He will miss us, as much as we will miss him. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. today in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel, with Pastor Conley Henderson officiating.
